Truly a disaster. She misread my x-ray entirely, which led to a multiple month quest to treat her incorrect diagnoses (guesses really) of gout, tendinitis, etc. I was bouncing around from doctor to doctor because they didn't know what they were treating since the x-ray supposedly showed no break/fracture. Luckily I was eventually referred to a competent podiatrist who took more than one x-ray and was able to identify a fracture immediately. Of course, since there was no diagnosis months ago, now my insurance won't cover several of his recommended treatments for a slow healing fracture. Amazing. I've been a user of Yelp for years but this is my first review since I just had to share this with anyone reading. I'm just amazed at the gross neglect in this case. I went to Dr Brenner for two ingrown toenails, and she was helpful in cutting them and then using another simple tool to smooth them out. She was fine at this, and gave helpful advice. However, I had three return visits for checkups to make sure the toe was growing back correctly (which it was)...and then the billing from my health insurance company came in. She charged nearly $900 for every visit, claiming different treatments every time. Even the most complex specialist visits Ive had with other types of doctors (including visits with x-rays) don't come to $900 for 15 minutes. Im sad to say that this is what is wrong with the American healthcare system, and what is continuing the process of specialists overbilling for things they are not actually doing, mainly because no one (the patient nor the insurance company) is there to keep track. Although she was kind and took care of me, I will not be returning to this office again. read more

Dr. B is indeed as awesome as the other reviewers have said. The reception was warm as always and the wait time was non-existent. I was offered tea/coffee - all of this on insurance?! I took a long break from Dr. B as my foot issues got resolved. Fast forward to a month ago-i had a nasty fall on the subway and stomped my foot pretty hard. I noticed a weird discomfort while walking but not when running. It was time for another visit to Dr. B. I was happy to see that after being away for 2 years, she not only remembered who I was but she has also expanded her offerings and pretty much upgraded the entire office. She is very knowledgeable and patient in explaining causes and symptoms. She is not pushy with advice/product. I told her what my issue was, she poked around and said not likely a fracture. But i wanted an X-ray for my own peace of mind. Thankfully, no fractures visible. All in all, it was a great visit. read more

Happy Feet !! I have multiple issues with my feet including nails and dry skin. Dr. Brenner spent a lot of time working on my nails and skin. I can not tell you how pleased I am with the results. In addition she explained the issue with my nails that no one else ever mentioned. My questions regarding foot surgery were also answered . Because of my hammer, I must have a podiatrist cut my nails. I go every month. I have been to many podiatrists in my life, but it wasn't until I started seeing Dr. Brenner, that I realized what fine and painless podiatry is about. When I get there I am greeted by Maria who is very friendly,and offered some water or coffee. Five minutes after I arrive, Dr. Brenner is already working on my feet. She makes you comfortable and explains exactly what she is going to do. She has the latest equipment and there is never any pain. After she does my nails, she uses some of her exclusive, Hillary Brenner, MD foot cream which softens my skin. I use it every day at home. She has never kept me waiting, and works quickly and efficiently. I am out in 10-15 minutes. Now that I am on Medicare, she charges me a special rate, which is very reasonable. I have recommended her to my family and friends, and they all feel the same way about her. I had my feet done today and my feet feel great. I feel confident recommending her to anyone. Dr. Brenner is friendly, very knowledgable and never keeps you waiting. If you wasted your money seeing the movie Happy Feet, and wonder what a movie with the same title would be like if was actually good... It'd be about visiting Dr. Brenner. Who doesn't love a doctor who regularly appears on Dr. Oz? I've seen Dr. Brenner for flat foot syndrome and she fitted me with a pair of comfortable and stylish (well, as stylish as you can get) orthopedic inserts. I also have runners' syndrome. Translation = my toenails fall off from hitting the tops of my shoes. Dr. Brenner has helped make sure my nails grow back correctly and safely - we don't want any ingrown nails! Not that I've over shared, the best part of all of this is that she accepts most major medical insurance, so I barely paid a penny. read more

I went into Dr. Brenner with an emergency ingrown toenail (walking was incredibly painful). I had been to a podiatrist for this same condition before, but not since I moved to New York, and Dr. Brenner was the first doctor I was able to get an appointment with. My biggest complaint is that the entire visit she seemed like she was rushing me out. I went in the afternoon and she didn't turn the lights in her office on (there was natural light but it was still a bit dark) and she immediately started to get to work. She gave me two huge numbing shots (which is standard, but the pain was worse than I had experienced) and thank god my friend came with me because I had someone to give me empathy while I was writhing in pain which she didn't seem to notice. Dr. Brenner then put pressure on my toe to see if I could still feel anything, when I could she went to do another shot and I asked her not to because I couldn't handle the pain. She agreed to wait to let the two first shots sink in (why hadn't she waited in the first place?) but when I've had this procedure in the past the doctor typically leaves for 5-15 minutes to let the numbing work, but she stayed in the room and kept prodding my toe for five minutes (asking does this hurt? does this hurt?) until she finally said she would leave the room for ten minutes, and she came back a minute later tops! I finally gave in and let her cut the toenail away even though it wasn't totally numb. She didn't use iodine, which was a bit troubling, but all in all the actual procedure was pretty textbook. I'm giving the visit a 3/5 because technically my toe is healed and I got what I went there for, but the whole experience was harrowing and I refused to go back for the check-in. read more

I found Dr. Brenner through my health insurance and I was a little nervous. She was so nice and gentle plus she explained everything she was going to do. I' was in and out in under an hour plus she takes insurance. How refreshing! Easy trip downtown (the 4,5 wall street is right out front). If you need a podiatrist, I recommend her. Dr. Brenner took me the day of. I was skeptical of that but was willing to take another risk since the last podiatrist i went to was a complete nightmare and i needed some urgent help with my fractured toe. Really glad i trusted my instincts on this one! She was great with me! Dr. Brenner is the BEST podiatrist I EVER encountered. I was referred to her by a friend and she IS the BEST. I've had 2 surgeries with Dr. B and each time she made sure I was well taken care of. I love going into her office, its such pleasantries when you walk in there. No matter what problem I may have with my feet she is one doctor who is DETERMINED to make it better for me. Dr. B is always available to answer whatever questions I may have anytime day or night and she takes her time with you. Podiatrist Hillary Brenner talked me into a getting another pair of orthotics since I had not had a new pair in 15 years. I agreed with her in her office, but when leaving the office I thought to my self Don't fix something that is not broken. Well after three adjustments and six months later every time I wear her orthotics I get back pain and violent muscle spasms. Doctor Brenner tells me that's all she can do for me. Dr Brenner performed major foot surgery on me years ago and I needed help this time for a very minor issue. She has a very calming demeanor and lovely staff whom I adore. I insisted on buying a product in her office and she asked me to compare the active ingredients to an over the counter item I already had. When they were the same, she asked me not to spend unnecessarily. She has always been very honest and if she recommends something, I trust her judgment because of that. I find it sad that someone has written a review about a great person and her establishment focusing on non-related things. THIS IS A FOOT CLINIC, if it "smells", then MAYBE A PATIENT IS THERE FOR THAT ISSUE (that wasn't my issue lol). They have candles lit, even though I didn't smell anything but coffee, which I was offered. She's a beautiful person inside and out who shouldn't be judged in a review on her attire when she's there to treat feet lol (she wears doctor scrubs, not sure how they are sloppy as someone mentioned. Do they sell designer scrubs?"). She's been featured in Oprah magazine and on many TV shows. It's been 4 years since my last visit and she remembers topics we spoke about long ago. I don't work there, don't get any kickbacks, am just writing an honest review because I've trusted her for many years. If you want a kind, gentle bedside manner, see her. If you want to judge for non-related things, then maybe you shouldn't see her because I don't want to see you in the waiting room anyway on my next visit. read more

I love Dr. Brenner! I have had consistent foot pain for about a year. It finally was bad enough that I HAD to do something about it. Dr. Brenner listens to what I say and addressess all of my concerns. She immediately diagnosed my plantar fasciitis and gave me options. Yes OPTIONS! And she said I didn't have to get surgery (whew!). She was not push with the orthotics but did present them as an option. She gave me some low cost options to try. I eventually bucked up and realized being pain free was worth the cost of orthotics! I can say that right now I am pain free. I also just like going to see Dr. Brenner. I made an appointment to drain a cyst which I had been procrastinating to do because I was dreading the pain that I have associated with this in the past with a different podiatrist. Much to my surprise, it was practically painless and the whole experience was smooth and seamless! I so appreciated the step-by-step explanation on what she was about to do and how I can expect to feel as she was going through the procedure. She delivers the high treatment quality that what one expects from a Manhattan-based doctor, while being warm, charming and making it all look effortless. Dr. Brenner's life's work is podiatry. She offers foot care, including foot surgery, and has a line of her own foot care products. Dr. Brenner removed a ganglion cyst on my toe with no inpatient surgery. Dr. Brenner also removed a wart that I had for years from another toe. In addition, an over-the-counter product Dr. Brenner recommended for my mother's corn worked wonders. Mom used the product for several weeks, after which the painful corn fell off. Dr. Brenner's office is charming and conveniently located. If you are looking for a good podiatrist, look no further! I give Dr. Hillary Brenner my highest recommendation. read more

Well, I happend to go to her when i injured my toe. I also showed her my ill heel back. Xrays were taken and my foot was plastered and a steroid was given at my heel back. Revisited after 2 weeks as scheduled. Plaster was taken out and she asked me if it hurt. I didnt honestly and i said no. Then I was all set even though i asked her to xray once again but she didnt and also told me that i can play my regular soccer again from next week. This story happened about 2 months back from today's date and my toe is not healed and heel back hurts even worst. I m looking for different doctor. Not recommend. read more

Following up on below review: After three weeks of following Dr. Brenner's exercise regimen and using the arch bands she sold me with increasing pain and debilitation, I found another podiatrist through an acquaintance and saw him on two days ago. He spent an hour with me, compared to Dr. Brenner's ten minutes, listened carefully and spoke thoughtfully. He told me that while the diagnosis of plantar fasciitis was correct: (1) most of the stretches Dr. Brenner gave me were inappropriate for where I was in terms of pain, (2) I do not have "flat feet" as Dr. Brenner said (he watched me walk for about five minutes, as compared to Dr. Brenner just watching me stand), (3) there were many things that should be done to improve my condition before considering the expensive recommendations Dr. Brenner made. He prescribed a topical anti-inflammatory and an oral anti-inflammatory, gave me two exercises that put less stress on my foot to do for shorter periods of time, and built an insert for my shoe (included in the cost of the visit). I started the revised treatment plan yesterday and for the first time in months got out of bed today without tremendous pain. Everything feels better. If you need a podiatrist in Manhattan, try Dr. Scott Melamed instead of Dr. Brenner. Having read the Yelp reviews and seen Dr. Brenner's website, I had high expectations when I visited her two weeks ago after suffering months of increasing foot pain. I was dismayed as soon as I walked in the door. The office had an unpleasant odor combined with a perfume odor. Dr. Brenner was dressed sloppily and unprofessionally. She spoke fast, like a Vegamatic salesperson. She made her diagnosis of plantar fasciitis and heel spur immediately, and did take x-rays to confirm, but also seemed uninterested in discussing the full range of symptoms that might indicate that there were other things going on in addition to that diagnosis. She tried to sell me her soaking salt product and a $160+ night splint (a plantar fasciitis resource website list of "best" night splints has prices starting $20 for the top rated splint). She also tried to sell me on $600+ custom orthotics; I have done extensive research online and found that the efficacy of high priced custom orthotics is controversial. On the plus side, she gave me a sheet of paper describing some good exercises and some decent advice about shoes, but I could have found that online after the diagnosis myself (and actually found some better ones). Bottom line is that the office environment, the "bum's rush" treatment, and the overselling of products convinced me that she is not the doctor for me. read more

I don't know who could rate dr. Brenner other than excellent. She is an amazing, smart, professional, and very kind human being. She definitely knows what she is talking about and explains it in great details. She doesn't rush you out of the office and with a pleasure answers all of your questions. She does X-rays right in the office and immediately analyzes it in front of you. This gives a piece of mind that that there is no guessing going on. I came with some heel issue and after analyzing everything thoroughly and looking through previous test results, she put some inserts into my shoes, which immediately made my feet feel better. I have been to several Podiatrist in Manhattan for my bad ankle. Before coming to Dr. Brenner, other Podiatrist have use soft cast, injections, and expensive insole. But my foot pain keeps coming back and have recurring sprain of my left ankle. I was on the soft cast multiple times in 1 year and the Podiatrist refused to prescribe me physical therapy (PT). That dr. said that I do not listen to him and not being compliant with his treatment plan. But, I am so tired of the ankle cast over and over again. So, I decided to come to Yelp in searching for a highly rated Podiatrist. Thank you Yelp that I have found Dr. Brenner! She is very friendly and she provided me many infor on the type of shoe and the duration I should wear. As she recommended, I got the insole and fabric ankle brace from her office. She showed me how to use them properly. She prescribed me PT. Then I Yelp for a PT office. Since then, I haven't sprain or strain my ankle as much. I did twisted my ankle a few times, but I use the method that Dr. Brenner taught me and now I can treat my ankle twist myself and no more pain!!! My ankle is not PAIN FREE after seeing Dr. Brenner with the help of my PT. I cannot thank them enough that I am able to wear my sexy heels again (no more than 1 hr per day) in 5 years after my ankle injury. Very Happy! ^_^ read more

Dr. Hillary Brenner is a consummate podiatrist, Great skills, fantastic personality and a deep knowledge of her specialty. Dr Brenner not only provides analysis and treatment ...but guides the patient on post-treatment care . She is patient and spends the required time to identify the patient's issues of concern. Yes...her evaluation may require an e-ray; which , in my case, helped stave off anxiety about a foot issue and more importantly eliminated possible foot problems and injuries Her office is conveniently located in lower Manhattan, major transportation is steps away and she has terrific office hours for people on the go. About a month ago, my left toe started to hurt, and it became swollen and painful to walk a week later. I went to see Dr. Brenner and she fixed me up in 2 wks! She told me to get rid of my new pair of shoes, which caused the pain. Things are back to normal and I'd give it another wk before going running.
