    Kayaking into Canyon
    Rachel G.

Great kayak/hike to Lower Antelope Canyon - staff was quick to answer questions prior to our tour date as far as location and arrival time. The email confirmation didn't provide quite all the details we needed - but one phone call took care of that. On the day of our tour - guides (Skyler and Elijah) were very knowledgeable about the area and kept the tour interesting. The tour ran longer than the four hours we were expecting - but in a good way. The lake was beautiful the canyon was amazing and while we've never seen the Upper Canyon - we liked that the Lower seemed less crowded and less rushed. The kayak portion was tough - and the low lake levels made the trip down to the launch area a little more strenuous than expected - but we would recommend this tour and this company specifically.

This is how I travel (on a lake)

This was the best tour in the area! First and foremost, you're on the water! In the desert! That's just cool. Now, about this tour company. I am really UNhappy with my initial reservation booking process. I was told that I could pay when I got there, so I reserved the sunset kayak tour for 2 people over the phone in my name with Mike, who was very nice and I said I'd pay when I got there. All done. Right? NO. Then I got an email from "Jessica" who stated..and I quote: "That is not part of protocol. I will have to speak with Mike as our manager insists everyone must pay prior to the tour in case of cancellations and to reserve spots with payment. We get other who are willing to pay and are on wait list for tours, which is why we require all payments made during booking. I will excuse this one and have my manager speak with Mike." Geez, I felt like I was the one who made the error and that this was my fault. Rather than get anyone in trouble, I called back a day or so later and paid for the tour in advance and let Jessica know via email that I had done so. No response back. No "thank you", No "hey, it's all good" NOTHING. So before I got there, I was at about a 1 star rating due to her lack of customer service. Once we arrived, we had a long wait. And it was HOT! Finally, we followed the group to the launch, it was very confusing once you got in and paid our park fee where to meet even though they told us before we left (they should have waited for all the cars to come in before proceeding), as the pay at the booth attendant apparently had no idea where we should go and informed us incorrectly where to meet up, but we finally found the group. We had 3 guides because our group was so large...no biggie - it was better this way, it's a large area to cover with faster and slower paddlers. We walked down this super long ramp...luckily it was downhill on the way out there. I had been experiencing some strange symptoms since I arrived in Page...figured out over time that it was apparently altitude sickness - yes, even at just 4300' - and needed to really take it easy. So I had requested our tour guide a ride back up from the water. Rhett was our main guide, he said he would see what he could do. Upon entry into the water, my friend and I got on our tandem and started paddling away. Our kayak kept veering left, no matter how much we paddled on the left (should have taken us right)... anyway, we dealt with it for 3 - 3.5 miles through the beautiful scenery and enjoyed the ride. Saw very little wildlife, and no sea life. The view was amazing. When we got to the end point, we beached our kayaks and got out. The group did a little hike into the dry path and I stayed behind. I was just not feeling right.. Same kind of weird symptoms I was experiencing for the last couple of days in Page and enjoyed the peace and quiet right there. When the group came back, my friend suggested that Rhett get in our kayak and she would take his solo and he was more than happy to oblige, because at that point, I couldn't do anything strenuous. Also, it was a good chance for him to feel how the kayak was keeping left. And he felt it. Meanwhile, the entire time he was very personable, he was very sweet as I did nothing on the 3.5 mile ride back but enjoy the ride and sunset was beautiful, I took photos and chatted with Rhett the whole way back. He also said he would help by getting the truck and bring me up the ramp, he knew how much of an incline that ramp was and it's really long. I was grateful! I gave him some cash and thanked him up and down. He is in my tandem photo. He's a super cool guy and would do this tour again and again. With him!

We booked an afternoon kayak only tour since we had a lower Antelope Canyon hiking tour in the morning. The communication was well done and I thought easy to follow. On the day of the tour, I called to see if we could add a person and we were able. Checked in at the office with Skylar and Tony was our guide. We were a small group so it was perfect for us. We learned a lot about the lake and had fun kayaking and relaxing in the canyon. Had a great time. I see some negative reviews from a few years back, but that was not our experience at all. Would use this group again

My kayak had a crack in it. We didn't even get to see the iconic spot. Save your money. Rent a kayak and follow your google maps. Like the receptionist said after checking in on driving to the ronde view site, " do you know what google maps is?"-in the most condescending voice possible. Photo attached is how the manager responded.

Most amazing kayak tour to Antelope Canyon! Craig our tour Guide was amazing! We recommend the 6am tour even tough it's super early! You get to enjoy an empty lake and Canyon!

We took a tour through antelope canyon October 1 at 8:15AM and WOW! Was it amazing. Our guide was extremely down to earth and very cool. He told us some great facts without being boring. It's such an interesting place and to be in the middle of it kayaking is so relaxing. We took a few breaks to take in the quiet of morning and to relax a little bit. It was 7 miles of hard work but well worth it. We both are not very active and did fine with it. It was a highlight to our trip! Thank you kayak lake Powell

After renting the kayaks, we began our trip at Antelope Point Marina! We payed $30 to get in, but if you are with a member of the Armed Forces you can get in for free. Kayak Lake Powell is a better option than it's nearby competitors. It's $30 a person for a kayak and you can keep them 8AM-5PM! We kayaked Antelope Canyon and then stopped at the very end and hiked around before heading back! We did not do the tour because we had a service dog with us and he was not allowed on the tours. We rented the kayaks and went on our own with our pup! Much cheaper and way cooler! Be alert at all times for changing weather! I'm giving four stars because after 6+ hours of kayaking it would have been nice to have the staff take the kayaks off of our car for us. It was still a great experience and I would recommend going here!

    Olivia S.

WOW!! Wonderful experience. Miles was our tour guide and was absolutely incredible. He gauged our group very well and knew exactly when to take breaks for us. During our breaks he would tell us tons of fun facts about the lake. This is a really good workout, even for fit people. So make sure you're hydrated and ready to burn some calories. I highly suggest bringing SPF, sunglasses, waterproof shoes (that can get completely submerged in the water) and a waterproof phone case necklace for your phone. This tour was the cherry on top of our road trip. Enjoy!

    Walking into Slot Canyon

What a great experience! I have never kayaked before and I only signed up for my adult daughter who wanted to Kayak in Lake Powell. I had to call the office to ask the nice lady if I will be able to complete the trip since I have never kayaked before. She was so nice and encouraging, after she confirmed that it rarely flips while kayaking. I decided to participate in this experience with my daughters. At the lake, I was encouraged by the guide, Dave (?) and he kept watching out for me since I was a novice at this. He kept up with the encouragement and made sure everyone was all safe. I must have not looked alright..... he ended up towing me the whole way to the slot canyon and back. I was so thankful that he was able to do that. We all joked how I was getting a VIP treatment, lol! Without the guide, I would not have had this awesome experience with my kids. Thank you so much for your assistance and support! Hiking the slot canyon, it was really peaceful and beautiful. I don't think it could replace the Antelope Canyon tour in my personal experience but it was a great experience walking around the slot canyon. I recommend this tour to everyone out there who is considering something different than just walking over to the view points and take photos. Thank you Kayak Lake Powell and Dave!

This was my first kayak. I was little bit nevus but my instructor Red was very kind and friendly! Paddle about 6 miles on lake experience was amazing even watching paddle of my instructor was so Zen!! And in break time we jump off from cliff!! That was so scary but feels nice after. I was slow, but I'm so glad I did! If you have time I highly recommend!!

    Equipment is filthy.
    Megan M.

Please note that I am NOT one to complain... but this needs to be said. Ive been kayaking at lake Powell with a different company before and had a great experience so maybe my expectations were a bit higher because of that. For starters, don't use maps on your iPhone... the location of the office only shows up if you use Google Maps otherwise you'll be driving around town trying to find it. When we got there, the lady at the front desk was nice. She gave good directions to the lake, however, when we arrived the guy who worked with the company was in his truck getting ready to drive off. He hopped out of the truck, pointed to the row of kayaks that were a ways away, told us to find ours and take it down the hill... oh he did say not to drag the kayak because of the rocks. Seemed like he was more concerned about their kayak than us. He got back in his truck and drove off. IF YOU HAVE ANY PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS, HAVE A CHILD WITH YOU, OR DON'T WANT TO CARRY A HEAVY KAYAK DOWN A STEEP ROCKY HILL DO NOT GO THROUGH THIS COMPANY. Honestly this was incredibly dangerous and very difficult to do. We were amongst other families who were struggling and just as shocked as we were. They were not transparent about this at all. The one short sentence in the contract about this does not adequately describe what you'll actually have to do. I wasn't able to carry the kayak back up the hill, so to receive help it was an additional $55. Also, the equipment was filthy and stained my hands black. Kayaking through the canyon was beautiful, I would just recommend going through a company who is the slightest bit helpful.

    Amber S.

The only reason i give 4 stars is because i believe the outfit needs to add a bit more information about the difficulty level. i had no problems but some beginners in the group really seemed to struggle as the boat chop on the water can really call for some heavy digging with your paddle and if you add winds to that it can be a hard paddle. other than that the staff was helpful, informational and friendly. i also thought there would be a point where we got out of the kayaks and get to walk into some slots but that was not the case.

Great product! Friendly Service. Easy booking, pickup and drop off. Excellent service! Although they did seem to be short staffed the day I was there but not too big of a problem.

Will I be able to haul 3 kayaks in a rental suv?

Yes, They will stack them on your roof like a pyramid. A small step ladder will be most useful as the top kayak will be harder to reach.

    Is there age restrictions?

A friend and I booked this event for her 40th birthday and it was the absolute highlight of our trip! We were thinking of renting kayaks and doing it ourselves but are both so grateful that we didn't because our tour guide, Ryan, was fantastic-- extremely knowledgeable, helpful, witty, and patient with us, as we were both beginners. He made it really fun! We learned that Britney Spears shot her video "I'm not a girl, not yet a woman" there, too! This was so worth it and will definitely be coming back and booking with Ryan!

She said yes but the benefit of using them was they carried the boards down and up a steep hill. We were there on Saturday April 25th. So we rented two paddle boards and she warned us about the winds. It was like $155. She was nice so we went for it. We get to the site and are waiting around. They haven't even taken the boards off the truck, but we were fine waiting. Layla finally made it up the HILL and had 2 boards taken off the truck and laid on the ground. I asked if any of the MANY men who were there and carrying kayaks down, was going to carry them down. She said no, you carry them. And that hill was STEEP. I figured meh, okay. I was annoyed since we were told they'd be ready for us at the bottom. Layla carried my paddle. Once I saw the hill, I was even more annoyed but I already paid $155 plus $30 entry to the lake. When we got to the bottom, she mentioned when we got back I had to carry it back up. I said I'm not doing that. lol. She held my leash so I could climb on my board. Not an easy task where we were. The paddle boarding was rough but we knew that, the girls at the office warned us. 5 miles later we returned. I STRUGGLED getting off the board and trying to haul it up by myself, my body was shaking and I was visibly exhausted. A young man who worked for this place, WATCHED me struggle. Asked how it was, I said it sucked. He mentioned me carrying the board up that steep hill, while I was shaking from exhaustion and out of breath, and I said "I'm not doing that" and he replied with "why is it heavy?" I did carry my life jacket and paddle...but after that comment I REALLY didn't want to. Layla gave me a water at the top and said to take a breath, I was breathing very heavy. I'd say don't rent paddle boards. You will have to carry them up and down the hill and will get no assistance getting off the board either. But they did carry the kayaks and help those people who also paid like we did, in and out of the kayaks. So maybe rent those and not the paddle boards.

We got the Wahweap Bay Special where the delivery of the kayaks were free and the time slot for rental is 1pm to 6pm approximately. You could do the single or double kayaks with WazSUP. Billy was definitely informative and personable. He made great recommendations with the routes to go and went as far as recommending restaurants in the area. The only caveat is where the kayak is dropped off, you would need to lift it to the Lake on a slope going and coming which wasn't difficult for myself but could be for others. Billy, the owner disclosed this to me prior and other places I called didn't but it reviews complained about not knowing. You had 2 clear beautiful options in direction. South took you towards the Glen Canyon Dam that gave you an Antelope Canyon feel or North East towards the Ice Cream Canyon which was our choice. Keep in mind this takes about 2.5 - 3 hrs to do in total time. Going through the lake to get to that point could have been deemed tedious as we had to pass two docks, one seemed to have nice boats on the pier, the 2nd had what seemed like boat rentals and after was a very interesting site of houseboats. Once you get pass that then you look towards your right for an entrance on the far side to Ice Cream Canyon. At the entrance there is a smaller rock that you would have to pass that reminded me of Rocky Road Ice cream, once you get pass that you will know you are there as nothing else around looks like this. It reminded me for of vanilla ice cream or a snow cone. It was definitely worth the paddle for myself but not necessarily for someone with no experience in kayaking. If I was to come back I would definitely recommend maybe a jet ski or something faster to be able to see more in a shorter span of time.

The day before our tour, Julia called to let us know strong headwinds were expected and asked if we wanted to adjust our time. We already had a different morning tour scheduled, and they were incredibly accommodating with our plans. At the launch site, we met our guide Logan, and we were lucky that it was just our family of four on this tour. Husband and I wore aqua shoes and my daughters opted to wear their Birkenstock sandals and go barefoot, which was fine if you're okay with getting red mud on them. Logan was friendly, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. I was a bit nervous since I'm a beginner kayaker, but he let us move at our own pace. It ended up being a great workout while still feeling peaceful and relaxing. The scenery was absolutely stunning. The canyon was quiet, beautiful, and not crowded at all. We paddled across Lake Powell and into the canyon, and the cool lake water felt amazing in the warm end-of-March weather (mid-80s). They provided life jackets, offered bottled water, and Logan even took photos of us both on the water and at the end of the canyon, which we really appreciated. He also shared helpful paddling tips along the way. The entire tour lasted about 2.5-3 hours and was a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. Highly recommend for families and beginners looking for a scenic and well-guided kayaking experience!

John and Sid (the other employee) made this tour worth it. They provided awesome recommendations for things in the area and also future outdoor related activities in the U.S. Be sure to pack enough water. Remember you are in a kayak and your items will likely get soaked. Luckily they provide one water proof bag per kayak which can hold your phone and camera. If you feel the need to pack more, I recommend that you bring your own waterproof back pack. I opted to go barefoot in the kayak and wear shoes on the hike. You will have to walk through water to get on and off of the boat. Do not let your size and fitness level deter you from this tour. Steph, our tour guide was great, she text us the night before to answer any of our questions and give us the rundown. When we met her the next day, she was friendly and outgoing and energetic. We were in a group of 8, four pairs of two. During the paddle talk, the approaching storm was getting more ominous. The wind gusts were much more than expected and the temperature plummeted. Paddle Express asked us how we were feeling about paddling in this weather and they offered no pressure for us to continue. They allowed us to decide independently of the others in our group if we wanted to continue. 6 out of 8 backed out and they didn't force the last two to cancel which I thought was very professional. We were able to receive a full refund and I would most definitely book with them again. They offered us dry bags, nice life vests, newer paddles and their kayaks were clean (even though I didn't get to actually use one). I like that they take care of their equipment and don't use run down ratty worn out gear. I would definitely recommend Paddle Express to anyone and I'm looking forward to using them on my next trip out here.

Fourth time here. The boats are kinda rough but it's a rental fleet so it is what it is. Generator…read morebroke today at 8am. Notified them immediately via radio because nobody answered four phone calls. Straight to voicemail. It's 103° and we have two infants. Said we were "a priority". It's 4pm and silence. Lake Powell is gorgeous but this is insane. Customer service isn't second, it's non existent. Absolute clown show. The concession hasn't been put to bid since 1969. Kick Aramark out.

Here are some takeaways from our most recent trip on a houseboat in June 2022…read more.. 1) You have to book this boat 1 year in advance. Expect to pay around $8k plus gas, plus insurance. It's roughy $10k for a middle of the road boat for 5 days when it all adds up. 2) We had the 62' Journey. It did not look like any of the pictures online, it was much dated, but it worked, for the most part. Make sure you check everything before you go - the fridge, freezer, are so important, the generator too! 3) We did a "pre-board" and I recommend doing this if you are renting a boat in Powell. What a pre-board means is that at 5pm the night before you can board the boat, vs. waiting until 3:30pm the following day. This way, you wake up the next day, get checked out and you are on your merry way to find a spot to dock your boat. It's a great way to go. It does cost extra, and also know they will not let you on that boat anytime before 5pm, we tried. If you go this route as well, know that the people working on the dock are busy with the people who are boarding for that day, they are driving golf carts with their luggage and food, etc. and will not likely be able to help you until the next day, if not later in that day, so be prepared to carry your stuff to your boat, if you don't want to wait for someone. 4) Get the insurance. Do not sign up to pay for anything that breaks on that boat, it's $70/day for the insurance and trust me when you look at your boat you are going to want that. 5) If you are not savvy with boats, don't attempt to do anything if it's really windy or there are other poor weather conditions. You will have a hard time, and if there are any conditions like this I recommend waiting til it dies down to move your boat, park your boat on shore, etc. We were listening to the radio at the dock and we happened to come back in on a very windy day. It was A MESS. People losing anchors, things breaking, hitting other boats, etc. Just sit still if the weather isn't good and wait for a nice calm day to move your boat. Honestly our kids enjoyed their time being parked at the marina and on the boat, you aren't missing much and you will be safer. 5) Here's some general houseboating tips -- the slide is fun AF :), bring an iphone cord that adapts to the standard outlet so you can play music or bring a portable speaker, bring DVDs, bring a UHF radio so you can connect with the boat, and/or bring walkie talkies, you will want binoculars to see the numbered buoys, plan your food each day so you don't overpack, keep your meals simple. You do have a cooler and you will need quite a bit of ice, put some ice in your freezer so you have backup during your stay on the boat, ask the dock for a tow rope for your speedboat, and ask the person checking you out for recommendations on where to park, do your research first but ask them, they know best! For the price they charge you could go to a tropical island...the beauty of Powell is that 1) it's beautiful and 2) you don't have any service. #2 is a huge draw for me. It's truly a place to disconnect. You are basically camping on the water, just keep that in mind, it's an experience for sure! We saw Antelope marina on our way in/out of our camping spot. I would consider them next time, their boats looked nicer and they have good reviews on Yelp, they are closer to Padre Bay too, just a thought that was going throug my head...no idea how the experience is there but maybe take a look at them as well. Also the Axiom Star is the best boat, if you can get it. It's really lovely inside. The other one that is on the nicer end is the Wanderer. But if you can get the Axiom -- it's very very nice. Much nicer than what we were on! I had tried to book that a year in advance it was already taken.
