AVOID AT ALL COSTS Worst kayak/paddle company in the area. You could not possibly get worse customer service. Sean is the a terrible owner. Look at the texts from his business number from here and other people, imagine how he would talk to you in real life. All I did was ask simple questions and then followed with a "Hello?" to check in, but he thought I was attacking him somehow. He decided to not allow a reservation without asking him nicely first. Then he said he's a "licensed contractor" so he doesn't need my business. This guy is very deluded. He even removed my 1 star on google reviews because he can't handle all these negative reviews. Too bad yelp is held at a higher standard than Google and will show all the 1 star reviews. He probably will have a nasty reply to this review too because he has some kind of chip on his shoulder.
At first our booking, communication and experience with Sean and this company was wonderful. We were ready to give them five stars! However, at the end of our paddle there was an issue. My cousin twisted her hip/leg and it gave out.....it was an unexpected accident that could have happened to anyone. Sprains, strains and broken legs or arms occur even with the most seasoned/healthiest hiker, biker or kayaker. I was told NOT to drag the kayaks. As she could not lift one side and I could not fully lift it all the way up the ramp myself. I brought the kayak within 7 feet of where we picked it up. I notified the company and received a pretty nasty text in return. I explained I did not want to ruin or drag their equipment. I guess I should have. We had already left before I got the text but it basically said I MUST return and move the kayaks to the exact location. Zero understanding, compassion with this company. I recommend you chose another.
Wow. Be weary of signing up for this given Sean is extremely rude and has a temper. Believe the other one star review that talks about his text engagements. If you experience anything that was not enjoyable and try to reach out to Sean, you might as well forget it. We asked to be considered for a partial refund given our group was not able to enter the antelope canyon and do the hike, something advertised in the experience and the reason we chose this booking (the family with us was having fatigue so we didn't get the canyon hike). He got really nasty via text in the end and said "if you paddled better there would not be anything to talk about." That was the last text he sent. Prior to that he asked if we had any wilderness medical certifications and I said actually yes I'm a doctor. He then replied saying "so you should know. Thanks it sounds like you have to stay in the building because elements and wilderness injuries are not in your consideration right now." We found that comical since one of the kids in the group got a cut and we were the first to offer a bandaid and antiseptic. We were understanding of the situation at hand and were just asking for him to be understanding of us not being able to receive part of the experience. So just be cautious of expectations of the tour and how well the admin accommodates you. He never once apologized kindly. On the other hand, Steph was lovely. If you choose to book here confirm she's your tour guide for your time!! Edit: I've received 28 emails from Yelp that the owner of paddle express has edited his review 28 times in the past 48 hours.
Sean is a dude. I highly recommend Lake Powell Paddle Express. Make sure you stop on the beach before you return your board for a swim.
We called Sean the night we got into town, looking for a place that was still open and could rent us a kayak first thing in the morning. We thought we'd try to start out about 8am, but Sean highly recommended starting at 6am if we were willing. He promised that the water would be as smooth as glass and that we'd have the lake and the canyon to ourselves for a while. He was spot on! If you can go early, do it. Kayaking or paddle boarding at that hour will impress. It certainly did for us! We enjoyed the quiet cruise through the canyon and later braved the open waters to see more of the lake. Once boats became more plentiful, the waves from the wake and reverberating off the walls made for a much rougher ride, but it was all fun. We hiked the canyon up to the ladder, but because we kayaked the canyon twice and went a few miles farther and back on the lake, we stopped at the ladder and called it day. It was all very well worth it and Sean gave us great tips and make everything really easy for us to enjoy the day out on the water.
Nickel and Dimed : Sean has a great product but his customer service represents that of one who is burned out and tired of dealing with the public. He's very unprofessional and his patience for anything that doesn't go 100% perfect is thin. After letting Sean know we were going to be 30 min late (3 hrs in advance) of our planned arrival he tacked on a $50 late fee by texting me to Venmo him. When we ended up arriving 34 minutes late we were then hit with another Venmo $25 fee. He made sure these steep fees were paid in advance of us getting the kayak. Fees totaled $75 and the tandem kayak itself totaled $67. If you book with Sean be sure to read all the fine print within his website as he has hefty fines for pretty much anything and everything.
We were charged more in fees ($75 total) than we were for the kayaking. Save yourself the headache and BOOK WITH SOMEONE ELSE!!! Messaged Sean two hours in advance to let him know we would be running 30 mins late. Sean responded demanding we Venmo him $50 for late fee! We were shocked but went ahead and paid it. When we show up at 11:32 Sean isn't happy with us being 2 minutes past 11:30 - the walk from parking to the boat launch is very long. At this point he demanded that we Venmo him another $25. We're obviously very frustrated by the situation but he won't let us kayak unless we Venmo him the additional fee. After reading over his website more I realize he was taking advantage of us and over charged us. We should've been charged $25 not $50 in the beginning since it would've been a 30 min late fee not a reschedule fee. We tried to be nice and tell him way in advance we were running late but should've never told him and just showed up, we would've ultimately been charged less in fees. Kayaking and hiking in lower antelope canyon was AMAZING but DON'T BOOK WITH SEAN!!!! As seen in other posts, in order to trivialize this review Sean will likely both attack the character of my friend and myself as well as ranting about adherence to policy. In his defense, the policy is mostly clear on his website if you have time to read his 1000 word essay before arriving. Be sure to take the time do so if you decide to book through this service. We tried to be respectful and communicative but were met with rudeness and inflexibility - why book through a smaller service if not for flexibility and savings? You won't find those attributes here.
I rented a sit-in single kayak for two days from Lake Powell Paddle Express for a very reasonable price. My experience with Sean was fantastic! We met at Lone Rock beach where he helped load the kayak on my bmw sedan with no rack. Sean gave some great tips and recommendations, and gave me the confidence to mount and transport the kayak myself. He also provided a paddle, life-jacket, and a dry bag. I was able to kayak both Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon in the same weekend. Sean was very professional, timely, and helpful. Thanks for the help Sean, it was a pleasure meeting you and I will definitely be renting with you again!
Provided kayaks with delivery for a very affordable price. As well as recommending a spot to kayak to for hiking, and a spot to watch the sunset when we returned the rentals. Very friendly service!
Has an awesome time w Sean the owner! We did the Antelope canyon kayak tour and hike and it was amazing. We drove from central California and he'd check up on us and since we arrived in Arizona early, he was flexible enough to let us tour 5 hours before our scheduled time. Sean was very patient with us and taught us the basics about kayaking which ended up being easier than we thought. He then took us through the hike in which he is very knowledgeable about the topography of the canyon. Then took a dip in the lake which was the cherry on top! 10/10 recommend!
Honestly... we are very confused because we thought this company was going to be better with customer service according to the reviews we read. The truth is, I do not recommend this company if you want to have a good experience. From the get go, Sean was rude and uptight. Even before booking, his attitude wasn't the best but we still went ahead with the reservation so I guess that's our fault. We traveled from Florida to Vegas, then 4 hours all the way to lake Powell. Then Sean told us he was going to be later than the accorded time because "he didn't want to wait for us". He assumed we were going to be late. His customer service skills are 0 to none, as customers we expect a company that would take care of us without making us feel like we owe them something. When you pay for a service, the company owes you. If you can rent with any other kayak company, you experience will be way better. Do not allow small business owner to treat its customer like crap.
We had a blast today kayaking Lake Powell and Antelope Creek, Sean was a great host and the process was seamless. Would recommend LP Paddle Express, will definitely be back again!
Highly recommend Lake Powell Paddle Express! We were able to book three kayaks less than 12 hours in advance. Booking through the site is super simple. Sean was very responsive and sent over detailed direction where to meet. Will absolutely book with them again next time I'm in the area!

Paddle Express can improve how they respond in a professional manner when their clients review them good or bad..... I enjoyed the scenery, kayaking and the waves on Saturday July 19th. I never made one negative comment against Steph she was great. I just made some suggestions on my other reviews and the direct response from 'Paddle Express' "was to place blame while lying" instead of accepting the suggestions in peace. The owner Sean is very unprofessional and a bully with narcissistic mannerisms/behaviors. If you look at his responses to his clients that don't give him 5 stars across other review sites you will definitely see a pattern!! "He takes no accountability" 'HIS TACTIC IS TO PLACE BLAME WHILE GOING INTO a full rant against his clients ". The best response for a professional business owner is 'OH' "not everyone is professional"! "Take some accountability and stop bashing your clients". Nothing and no one is perfect but when you go on an entire rant attacking your previous clients it shows your character. I'm really sorry I chose your company when I booked. There were so many companies I didn't expect blatant bullying. I must say it's okay you can't make everybody happy but one thing you can do is stay clear of people like Sean. Attack me if you must Sean! "NO RESPONSE IS THE BEST RESPONSE when dealing with your type of personality". You're a liar and the truth doesn't exist in your response tactic. Oh and Sean no matter what you say I won't be responding to your blatant lies on Yelp. You're just not a good person and that's on you. I literally gave Paddle Express 4 from the start and now 1 star for 'the lack of professionalism'. No matter at the end of it all "I stand on principal" I will never behave or respond as a professional to my clients in such a derogatory disrespectful manner as you continue to do. read more

RUDE. AGRESSIVE. AND SCAMMERS. I will continue to write this review on any message board, booking site or anything else that will accept it! The customer service from the owner "Sean" is downright diabolical! He has flagged my reviews with Viator, the booking company due to me uploading text messages and PROOF of all my claims. They will no longer speak to me about my reservation, provide any support OR REFUND ME. I booked a reservation on April 17th at roughly 6am for two patrons = $238 for the following day, April 18th @ 11am. I was on a flight from Atlanta to Arizona at 9pm on 4/17 when I received an email that my reservation was re-scheduled due to "Not checking in". I also received a text message where I communicated the new time would not work for my birthday plans. This person spoke so rudely in text and stated they would give me a refund because I was "arguing". I never received the refund. I contacted Viator who could not do anything because he did not cancel the reservation and it shows "Completed" on their end. I never rendered any services. But I have TWO bookings for the same date. One cancelled and on completed, scheduled an 1.5 hour apart. Sean claims he marked me as "No-show" (Text message) but then changes his story to say the reservation was cancelled due to the weather conditions. (No proof of this) He provided his 24-hr cancellation policy to Visa and they instantly shut me down. I would like my money back of course but even more, I want to deter other people from booking with this company. Just look at the reviews on Viator, we can't ALL be making it up: https://www.viator.com/tours/Page/Tours/d23393-279618P1 Updated: Sean, hi. Your text messages from your provided phone number states that you would refund to me. This has not happened. They also state that the reason I was re-scheduled the night before was because of check-in issue. You then stated to the bank that I cancelled within the 24-hour window. There's no proof of that. You further stated, that my reservation was listed as a no-show but then to the bank again, that it was because of inclement weather. The excursion is 4 HOURS LONG. THE RESERVATIONS ARE AN 1.5 HOUR APART. None of your responses make sense and they have no validity. Glad to see that you are not insulting me as everyone else on this thread who has a negative opinion about the way they were treated by you. You understand the First Amendment, I'm sure. Free speech and press on a public platform with claims that can be proven to be true is legal. No one's harrassing you, your employees, representatives or any agent of your company. But then you can't prove that either. : ) I hope one day you learn decorum and simple respect for people and their money. read more

This locally owned kayak business is the best! Sean was awesome to work with. We came from North Carolina so we were renting a car and meeting him at the launch ramp was super easy and stress free. We were in touch with him multiple days before the trip because we were all watching the weather. He won't send people out of the weather is not good so, as people not familiar with AZ weather, we really appreciated his attention to the weather and water conditions. He was very informative about the kayaks and the lake. He gave great directions to the antelope canyon (which was amazing). He was super easy to communicate with and responds to texts/calls instantaneously! We highly recommend renting kayaks from Paddle Express! After our trip, he gave us great insight on other things to do in the area! Thanks for a great experience! read more

Be prepared for a terribly unprofessional experience from Sean. Read the other reviews before booking....you'll see a pattern of Sean bad mouthing his customers who had a bad experience. There is a glaring underlying problem of poorly labeled instructions on the location to meet him. Instead of being helpful he attacks his customers by belittling them and insulting them. See my attached text messages I received from him after not being able to find the right boat ramp. Note, there are 3 in the area. We didn't even make it to the kayak tour due to walking up and down other ramps trying to find him. We asked for a refund and when I texted him the next day to confirm that was handled he began to attack me in an unprofessional manner relentlessly trying to bait me into responding...there is no winning when you engage in an argument with someone like that. There are plenty of other tours available in the area and I highly recommend using ANYONE else. Don't give this guy the satisfaction of taking your business. Watch what hatred comes out of his mouth when he sees this post and responds...as he did with all of the others who noted their bad experience. Also thing to note, we were not drinking and I with my family looking for a kayak tour on the lake. RUN AWAY!! If I could give him zero stars I would. I hope this review helps someone from making a terrible mistake, choose someone else...it's not worth it. read more

Sean is amazing and I will definitely recommend him to all of my friends. I found him on Yelp and called him last minute hoping to kayak over the weekend. From start to end, he was super friendly and accommodating. We told him that we've never been to Page/Antelope Canyon before and that we are beginners. He recommended the perfect kayak for us (the upgraded Hobi one with the peddles). He guided us through every step of the way. He was always responsive over text. And he was at the boat ramp waiting for us when we were done. To top it off, he gave us great recommendations for dinner afterwards. read more

Sean is good at what he does. His personality is suited for it. My husband and I felt like we were a group of friends hanging out. We had great conversation. The canyon is absolutely beautiful. Sean got some great shots of us inside. My husband and I paddled in a tandem kayak with Sean in his own kayak and we had a nice time. We set out at 6, which I think was the best time because the water wasn't rough at all, whereas on the way back it was considerably more choppy. I enjoy lake kayaking ga white water kayaking so it was just my speed. I'm also 6 mo pregnant and I did just fine. My only critique was I wish there was a better/fuller description of what to expect from the experience. We paddled to the entrance of the slot canyon, hiked the canyon, then kayaked back to where we began. I wish I had asked/been told how long the hike was prior to leaving my lunch in the boat. I thought we were going to walk in and walk out and then paddle more? At any rate this experience has good value to it. Much better than paying $250 to walk into a canyon take some pictures with a mask on and then leave. read more

Unreliable. My reservation was cancelled less than 25 minutes before our booked departure time. I understand things happen but we should have been notified earlier. He suggested this could have been avoided if we confirmed the reservation the evening prior..at the time of booking I was instructed to confirm an hour before departure. If you are coming in from out of town and need a reliable service I suggest looking elsewhere. We ended up going to antelope point marina and were able to rent a double kayak 1/2 day for $40. read more

We had a wonderful day on Lake Powell and paddling into Antelope Canyon. It was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to the area. Sean was more than accommodating with our group of 8. It is a lot of work now to deliver kayaks to the water's edge and we so appreciated the delivery and pickup, especially on a holiday!! Sean had good tips on using the kayaks as well as how to capture the best images in the canyon. Awesome doing business with Sean. Most other companies in the area were only offering guided tours. We wanted to do our own thing and paddle express "DIY tour" was perfect. I have to say the owner Sean was spectacular with providing a last minute request to get us a double kayak to head to lower antelope canyon. Half an hour before our meetup location at Antelope canyon marina, he called to tell us the wind condition might not be idea for us to head to Antelope canyon. We followed his advise to wait 2 hours later when the weather conditions are more ideal. So happy we did that because the winds died down and we were able to kayak to our location in less than an hour than the anticipated 90 minutes. The rental fee included delivery and pickup which is extra helpful for tourists. He was knowledgeable about the techniques to operate the paddle given my shoulder Injury. I would recommend this company for anyone looking for a first class service and quality kayaks. Thanks for making it happen for us to our visits to Page and seeing Antelope Canyon despite COVID. read more

Epic adventure w/ paddle express. We rented discounted sit-inside 2 double kayaks and a single kayak. We had an amazing time kayaking to antelope canyon. Sean was great! Excellent customer service, gave us a lot of tips. No pressure on the time. We'll definitely rent here again. read more
