    What an amazing experience!!!
    Susy G.

First time kayaking..... the owners (a man/woman team) greeted us on arrival. They got straight to the point by asking how many of us were kayaking before giving us quick but simple instructions on how to navigate the kayak in the waters. We each got a one size fits all life jackets and our own kayaks. I was a bit anxious since I'm bigger in size but thank goodness they had a kayak that was just my size ( I'm a size 20-22/ 280lbs). I feel that I have to give you these details because I don't want anyone thinking that this activity is limited to thinner people. So, don't let your weight get in the way of you experiencing this! Another thing I appreciated, was the owners did not make one single comment about my weight. Rather, they made me feel super comfortable. They helped me into the kayak and before you know it, we were off! We had a great experience. The day was sunny and hardly any wind. We went in between tides. Perfect day to be on the water! I can't wait to go back! Rates range from $14-$20 for the first hour then they charge on 15min increments. Plenty of parking nearby on street. They are south of the shell shop and aquarium. No restrooms. Nearest public restrooms are at Tidelands Park. Not too far of a walk. Here's what you gotta know to prepare for a fun filled day on the water: Check out the daily tide schedule and plan accordingly. You might want to check on winds too. We went on a day when it was not too windy so that definitely helped us navigate safer since we were newbies. WEAR SUNSCREEN!! Even on days when the sun is not shining through the marine layer. Bring a hat (hopefully one that covers the back of your neck too Wear comfortable clothing. Light colored and long sleeved to prevent sunburns. Wear a comfy older pair of shoes or sandals that wrap around your foot. I'm saying this only because you may want to check out the sand spit on the other side and the water level is not deep at all. Lots of seaweed and marsh type sand. So, you WILL get your feet wet. Trust me, it's worth it! Beautiful views of the bay! Leave your valuables in your car unless you have clothing with zipper compartments. Last thing you want is losing your wallet or dropping your phone in the water There is plenty of room on the kayak for you to bring a bottle of water or even a small ice chest if you want to picnic on the sand spit. When it comes to navigating the water, remember to keep your eyes and ears open for any cross traffic. The Embarcadero does have a main waterway/channel where boats are passing by. So, it can get a bit challenging. If you don't feel that you can clear approaching boats, definitely pay it safe and wait for it to clear. Lastly, if I can do this so can YOU!!!! Good luck and enjoy!

In our trip full of wine tasting and eating, my mom and I decided to do something active and go kayaking in Morro Bay. Based on Yelp reviews I decided on giving Kayak Horizons a try and I was not disappointed. We arrived right around 10 (we were aiming for 9:00 but I woke up kind of late. They were easy to find on Embarcadero and they have a small lot, if you don't find a spot there is plenty of street parking all along Embarcadero. Once we got into the store, we were greeted by a nice young man and he helped us get our gear, dry bag, and two single kayaks. He gave us a rundown of the basics and even gave us tips for beaching our kayak if we wanted to check out Morro Rock (across the water from the dock). We didn't have a lot of questions because we had both gone before, but I was very appreciative of all his advice and tips. Their rates were really reasonable. $12 for the first hours per single kayak and another $8 for every additional hour per kayak (divided into 15 minute increments). These rates also included life vests and a dry bag for our personal belongings. Tip: Try to get there as early as possible so avoid the winds. My mom and I kayaked from 10:00-11:30 and those last 30 minutes were pretty killer as we were trying to paddle against the winds back to the dock. Have fun on the waters!

This place is awesome. If you are new to kayaking, it's one of the best places to go. I suggest you take a tour with them. The tours go into a marine estuary so it's a peaceful type of kayaking and better for beginners than all out ocean kayaking. I have to agree with the other reviewer--the owner is a good guy. We signed up in advance, and a week before our trip, he called to ask if we were willing to show up early to take advantage of a high tide that would make out trip just that much better. I jumped at that one. Once out in a kayak, the area is stunning to look at while you paddle along. There is an abundance of nature along the way-birds, seals, bat rays, etc. The guide we had was knowledgeable about the area and could answer the questions we asked during the tour. All the employees were outstanding in terms of service. I enjoy doing business with these folks. If you are a veteran kayak type, this place is also an outstanding choice. They have quite a selection of kayaks. My suggestion is to rent for a few hours, use the tide to your advantage, and paddle out to a spot and have lunch along the way, then explore some more or head back. The retail store is also a good place for any kayak fan. For more information check out the website: http://www.kayakhorizons.com/

Highly recommend renting kayaks from Kayak Horizons in Morro Bay! A single kayak is $14/hour and a double kayak is $20/hour. My boyfriend and I rented the double kayak and had a blast! We were greeted and helped right away by a woman at the counter. We signed a quick waiver, gave her an ID to hold onto and then we were on our way down the dock. A friendly man helped us into the kayak and we were off. We saw otters and seals while we were out. We also docked up across the bay on the beach by Morro rock to take some close up pictures! One hour was plenty of time in the bay!

The tour was so well organized and he was truly a wonderful guide. We can't recommend this tour enough for some seriously therapeutic time with nature!!! Don't be afraid if you're a beginner! You could go to it from the main road which takes you through the country side. Also wineries along the way which we found out. Along the whole stretch of the drive, there is no parking along the highway. Sucks that you can't get out for a picture of the lake. We finally made it to the entrance which there's a fee to get in. We literally just wanted to see the lake and get a pic. Give or take, 5 minutes or so. Spoke with the entrance guards, it was 12.00 per vehicle and as we had our dog with us, that would be another fee for pets. Instead, we just opted out to leave. Honestly, kind of sucks that you can't check it out without having to pay to get in. Not only that, they do offer camping which the camp site wasn't that far. Hiking trails as well as a boat ramp. The parking area when you enter is where the check in and customer service are. I believe there's a public restroom as well. We ended just getting out and stopping right at the gate to take a quick picture of the lake. From what we could see, there was people fishing right along the base. Curious to know if you could just leave your car at the lot and walk down to the water which was a like couple min walk when we left. Or maybe even that, you still have to pay a fee. Regardless, it was somewhat beautiful from what we could see off the road. Along the whole drive in till the entrance, no stopping or parking along the road.
