Never have I ever been treated so rudely as a potential customer as here. Not at all busy, so I went up to the open Dutch door and said I'd like to rent a kayak. Dude inside had a really lousy attitude and softly said to come to the window. As I hesitated a half second to figure out which window he meant, the dude loudly repeated "WINDOW!!!" Yeah dude, it's not hard to show some courtesy to those with dollars to trade. Bad day? Maybe. But not my problem. Thankfully there are other options nearby. read more

I will not rent kayaks here again. Very surly staff; put a damper on what usually is a fun experience. Unpleasant both coming and going.

Price was reasonable. We went on a very slow but warm weekday afternoon without reservations. The double kayak on display was quite nice. However the kayak we got was not. For example, the rear seat wasn't strapped in correctly. We beached the kayak and fixed the seat strapping to continue. And there was absolutely no back support on the front seat. If we were to rent from them again we would ask for one similar to the kayak on display. read more

The best time! We spent 1.5 hours out in the bay. Our group had 9 so we spent time laughing, enjoying the water, saw some lovely sea otters and sea lions from a distance. Enjoyed the pelicans and other birds! The weather was amazing. (Nov 2024) Not too windy. I brought way too many layers and it warmed up so had to shed them. The kayaking is amazing...just find another company. We got there and no one was available. Finally, Gary we learned, walked up. He didn't so much as acknowledge us, and it was a huge inconvenience to even talk to us. when we go to the boats, he dragged out a double, i paid for two singles. My husband told him and he got super huffy. at this point, we assumed he would throw us in and not tell us anythjng. He got real upset when we asked a question. If I hadn't paid already, we would have left. Total d***! Also, didn't give me the dry bags I asked for, I hope he knows that's all the tip he got from me! The rudest person!!!! What a great experience for my family! I made reservations for a "Half Day Classic" tour through "Central Coast Outdoors". The day we originally reserved was already full and they were able to get us rescheduled quickly. Communication was outstanding. When we arrived, we were greeted by our guide "Ocean Mike". He was very friendly, helpful, and informative during the tour. This was my wife's first time kayaking and she loved every minute. We saw sea otters, seals, and a variety of birds. Beached our kayaks and went on a small hike on the sand dunes. Definitely a highlight of our trip. I would highly recommend taking a kayak tour if you've never been before. Very reasonably prices even without deals/coupons. I like that they provide complimentary dry bags for you to use while kayaking (other places are an extra charge). I knew that wasn't right, so I reminded him I was out for 2 hours and he made it $25. Still so cheap for an unforgettable experience of a lifetime! Kayaking in Morro Bay, CA. I had such an incredible time. It was like being in a David Attenborough documentary. Hung out with two families of sea otters for a long time. Those critters are so adorable and playful! I was watching two adults swimming together wrapped in an otter helix together and aggressively biting each other's faces... then I noticed that there was a skinny pink protrusion from between one otter's legs. The employees were very nice to us. Instructions were straightforward in terms of how to work the kayak. Also, make way for ships and other boats that are passing by and respect the marine life. I think we just met Jerry the otter, he was very friendly! We rented the kayak for an hour, you may add extra hour if desired. They provided us a bag for belongings to be taken with us in the kayak. The screw on my foot rest suddenly came off and not only I hurt my foot but I also got very scared that I cant make it back as it became very hard to peddle with on one foot only! The worst part is that when I made it back, i was breathless, telling the guy what happened, and his reply was that i shouldnt have put pressure on my feet! I dont know where else i am supposed to be putting pressure. He the said " many people used it before you, and this is happening to you only" i was furious with my foot hurting and i went to speak to the manager and his "making up" was saying he is sorry and telling me that it was on him. He then excused his workers behaviour by saying that he is only 14 and he doesnt know how to handle the situation. Then why dont you employ people who are qualified! He had the attitude that as long as i didnt pay, i should shut up. After he saif he is sorry, i said i am sorry too but this is not only about the money! When i bent down to check my foot, only then he thought to ask me how my foot is and that point i just wanted to leave from this uncivilized, money talks situation. Shame on you. read more

Pleasant experience! I came with a group of 5 and we got 2 doubles and 1 single kayak. When we got there they went over all of the instructions with us and provided us with our life jackets. They were helpful and very nice. We were able to kayak for a while! It's a fun activity to do with friends or family! Highly recommend this place!! read more

Here's a terrible kayak joke: Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were getting cold so they decided to light a fire in their boat. It promptly sank, proving once again that you can't have your kayak and heat it too. Ahem. Yeah. Fortunately, a visit to Rock Kayak is far from terrible. The guys working here were really friendly and explained basic kayak maneuvers, how to work the stabilizer fin, where the notional boundaries of the bay are, and which way the currents were flowing. They gave us dry bags for our electronics, helped us into the water, and then we were off to enjoy scenic Morro Bay with all of the following: Seals - there's a platform not too far from shore where a ton of them are lounging around Morro Rock - you can get pretty close to it on the water Boats - always fun to look at The other side of the bay - beach your kayak on the sandbar on the other side, and enjoy the soft sand, scenery and solitude Rock Kayak is pretty much where Google Maps says it is. Find the "Kayak Rentals" sign on a yellow building, follow it towards the ocean, and find stairs leading down to the landing below. Here's a price comparison of Rock Kayak with Kayak Horizons, another popular rental place that's 0.2 miles away: Rock Kayak: Single kayak: $12 first hour, $8 each additional hour Double kayak: $20 first hour, $8 each additional hour Kayak Horizons: Single kayak: $12 first hour, $8 each additional hour Double kayak: $18 first hour, $10 each additional hour As you can see, it's the same cost for a single. I'm an old, fat lady. I was worried about being able to get into and out of the kayaks, but it looked like so much fun that we decided to go. The boys on the dock were really helpful, as other Yelpers have stated. They gave us navigational tips, info about the tide & currents, and the general boundaries of the area. This biggest thing, of course, was that they were very patient as I needed lots of help getting in & out of my boat. They didn't get irritated or laugh; they made it much more possible for me to have a good time. I really appreciated that. If you are older, or heavier, or have physical challenges, you can come here and they will take good care of you. Once you're on the water, the paddling is easy, and it is so freeing to move across the water under your own power. Can't wait to come back. read more

What a great experience! We dropped by for some Saturday afternoon fun. The staff here is so friendly and helpful. They let us know what conditions to expect in the bay and guidelines on how to safely observe wildlife. They encouraged us to explore in one direction so that when we came back to return the kayaks, we'd be going with the current rather than against it. We spent a lovely hour watching the otters and sea lions. We explored the sand bar across from the Morro Bay rock. The sand there is powdery soft and there are tons of seashells and sand dollars.
