I stopped in here today and the girl who painted my toes wasn't friendly at all. She barely said 5 words to me and cut my nails to short and uneven. My big toe was bleeding and is now hurting because she cut it in to far. She was in such a hurry she didn't wait the whole time in between drying to put the next coat on. The paint job looks terrible and she left a lot of polish on the skin around my toes! You go to these professionals to get your nails done up pretty and ready for sandals. My daughter saved to get her nails done prior to prom. She told the lady multiple times during doing her nails that it was not what she asked for. The lady did not even make an effort to fix them and only said sorry. The polish all over her fingers and nails uneven, she still charged $50.00. Save your money and don't go here!!! read more

I usually give places the benefit of the doubt after reading Yelp reviews. This place was no different. I needed to get a gel polish change and no other customers were there at the time so I got in and was helped fairly quick. She asked if I wanted a manicure as well and I figured since I was the only one there (I figured she would be able to spend a little extra time on me) that I would get it done. I have never felt so rushed!! She would grab one hand, hurry up and do it and then push my hand away and point to my other one. She asked if I wanted a design and I said yes. She said I could get a design on one nail on each hand so I agreed to that. I didn't even get to look at the designs before she started doing her own. It didn't look bad, it just wasn't something I would have chosen and I didn't really like the colors. I went back about a week and a half later because I broke a nail and wanted to get a gel polish change anyway. It was pretty busy when I went in so I figured I would have to wait a little bit, which I was fine with. The man told me to go sit in the back where a woman was painting nails. There was another woman getting her nails painted back there. She finished with hers and started mine. She was nice and did the design I wanted. It looked pretty good. But.... Gel nail polish isn't supposed to chip. Mine is chipping. The first place I went to my nails didn't chip at all. I think I may go back to the first place I went to. I'll just have to wait for them to show up. The reason I gave two stars is because you get a 5% discount for paying with cash. It's not much but every little bit counts, right? read more

I will preface this review and report that I have been a long time client of this salon. I was essentially a "regular" since she opened up until COVID (did away with acrylics). Kay's is usually pretty busy, but I generally try to stop by there first to check on their wait time before going somewhere else (pedicure only). I have been twice in the last year. I get a gel pedicure only. The price was over $10 more than the others, and each time it was different. They had some excuse each time as to why it was more, I let it be. Today I went in with myself and my two daughters (4 and 7). The girls were have to hair their toe nails and fingers trimmed and painted with regular polish. I wanted my finger nails trimmed and painted with gel polish only. There was no actual "manicure or pedicure." There were no warm towels, water, massages, etc. Hoots, the dead skin around my finger nails wasn't even trimmed. At least my fingernails were cut and filed. My toes... Well they were cut x1 a piece and superficially trimmed at best. The crack of the upper right corner of my great right now was not even buffed out. My two great toe nails are not even whatsoever. Again, no water, massage, filing of my dead skin, nothing. Just polish. My girls were in separate chairs waiting on their nails to dry. As I examined their names, I noticed that had not been been trimmed or filed (the entire reason for coming). I shut my mouth and let it be. I went to check out, and to my SHOCK it was $96 (before the tip)! I asked Kay's husband how could this be. They kept saying it was for the gel pedicures! I reminded them (as one of them did my toenails) THERE WAS NO PEDICURE SERVICES. You cut (somewhat) my nails and put on gel polish, NO ACRYLICS!! He said that the girls were $15 a piece, that's fine. MY CUT AND POLISH WAS $66!! I said that is unbelievable, the new place in Ellis Plaza charged us $30 less when we went two months ago. I said it's upsetting that you would charge such prices for the services (and lack thereof) you just provided to me and my girls. Not that it matters to their bottom line, but we will never be back. I waited three hours to cool off before writing this, but I found myself getting more upset in lieu of calming down. It's disappointing. Good luck to them. I will never recommend their place again. (MIND YOU I BROUGHT TWO NEW LADIES WITH US TODAY THAT WERE GETTING PEDICURES AND MANICURES. I NOW REGRET THAT.) Kay, I hope you read this. Pedicures are fine and it's usually very easy to get in and out quickly. However, I was going on a trip to Chicago and I wanted to try the dip manicure for the first time. Big mistake. The end result was a lumpy, uneven and embarrassing mess. The girl even called over another technician over to observe how to do it. She kept telling the other technician how "easy" it was which makes me really nervous. I should've known that it wouldn't turn out well when another lady came in and said that her dip was starting to crack off and then indicated that the girl doing my nails did hers. It was expensive and I still ended up paying once I got to Chicago to get them fixed because I was so embarrassed. The salon there said that the dip was too thick and she ended up needing to use 3 different filers to get them down to a thinner layer (the way dip is supposed to look apparently). I love them now so much that I want to find another place that will do it correctly next time. Again, pedicures are fine, but use caution with the dip technique. **update: nail tech said that the dip would last 3 weeks. The nails started coming off (much like the old school Lee press one) within NINE days. I also have learned that dip usually doesn't involve a UV light. This was almost like a dip/gel hybrid which I'm not sure is entirely correct. I could be wrong though as I know that different powders have different techniques, but I'd like to avoid the UV light exposure as much as possible. read more

She never once said that her ATM machine doesn't work but once I finish the price I paid on my first visit is the same as the 2nd and it was less work. read more

I went to this nail salon as the other one I truly liked were fully booked. This was a mistake - I had to be out of town by 4 pm and I went in there at 1 pm believing I had enough time for a full set and I'd be fine. I went in they had me sit at a station for -45 MINUTES while I watched some of their workers sitting in the pedicure chairs on their phones. I ended up having to just get a regular manicure because I ran out of time. They introduced me to the powder nail polish, which I did not know existed. It makes your nails stronger and makes the polish last longer. I will use powder from now on. I like that they worked on my manicure and pedicure at the same time because I was in a hurry. Kay, the owner is wonderful to work with. The girl that did my nails was very pleasant. read more

I went in yesterday to just get my nails and toes painted. I asked them to recommend something fall and asked them to use two diff colors on my toes and nails. She painted my toes with one color . When She got ready to paint my nails , I asked her to please not file them very much bc I wanted to keep my long nails, she filed them and made them rough and uneven. My nails were smudged and had lint all over them. I came home and took off the color and redone them myself. I was Very disappointed. read more

I was a returning customer to Kay's. I was advised to get the dip nails and since I had no knowledge I was like sure. Continued to do it because "it's the best" even recommended it to other people. But every time I got it done the top layer would literally peel off. One girl cut me once. I once had my tips filed so much that the purple dip was see through. And then they shaved the bottoms of the it but left left over dip powder below the shaving point so i has small lines below what was supposed to be the finish. Kay tried to fix it but it just looked so bad I was embarrassed of them. I then went on a trip and broke one and went to get it fixed by a place where I was vacationing and they told me dip isn't smart to do if I want sturdy nails and that it was more expensive than they should charge. I felt gipped and that they were just trying to manipulate me into spending more money. I will no longer go to Kay's especially since I never left extremely happy. Mediocre work. read more

I will NOT be back!!! I would give this place no stars if I could. I understand that at the time I was there, it was prom season. But, that is no excuse. I had Kay fill in my acrylic nails. My nails were long and in the oval shape. A fill in would be $25, but for me, it would cost $30 because they were so long. I asked about getting gel nails, which were $30. She said for me, $35. I got gel nails. That doesn't even make sense!!!! Kay was throwing my hands all over the place and yelling directions at her staff. She was very rough. My nails looked horrible at the end. I have never left a nail place so upset and disappointed. I went in for the first time to get a fill. Come to find out I had a small fungus under a nail, and Kay started getting upset saying loudly that she did not want me to go to another nail place and tell them I got it because of them. That it would ruin their reputation. Mind you I am now embarrassed because she has said this in front of everyone there. She proceeded with my nails and would forcefully push my hands back at me when she was finished.
