I was utterly disappointment because this isn't the first time i noticed the portion size being small. This is the second time im giving it a chance after covid and i can confirm that it is the biggest waste of money for what they give you. This place is definitely not the best poke spot in OC - that honor would definitely go to North Shore Poke Co in Huntington Beach, not even on the same page in comparison. The food here is not worth the high price. But, fresh fish is not cheap to start with, so the only way around this is for Kawamata Seafood to improve the quality of their fish. It honestly tasted pre-frozen, which I really don't like. The original sauce tasted better on the cabbage base than it did with the poke fish, and that's not a great thing when the main ingredient is the fish and not the cabbage. The toppings were super plentiful and honestly were too much for the bowl as a whole, as in, not well-balanced. Maybe this is because they know their pre-frozen fish doesn't have the greatest taste. The service was honestly terrible. The young male who took my order couldn't be ruder and gave off the impression that he just doesn't care about doing a good job with customer service. The young female who gave me my order when it was ready was also dead to the world and left me with a very bad impression of the staff as a whole at this place. I been on the look out for a Poke place that is similar to the quality and taste in Hawaii, with a reasonable price. This place is it! A large poke bowl for $16.50 and large portions of fresh salmon. Compared to their competitors in Huntington Beach/Newport Beach, this place comes closest to Poke similar to Hawaii. The line might be long to place an order but to get the food is quick. Prepare to fall in line. We made sure to try this spot as we were heading out of Dana Point one weekend, and it was definitely worth a try. We went right as they opened at 11:30am on a Friday and the line was already so long. As someone whose main reference of poke are decent local chains around OC, I can say the quality of the fish was for sure fresh and high. The chunks of fish were huge, and each fish options comes with soy sauce and white onion - which was delicious. We also got one with octopus which was surprisingly good as it had a great texture, not too chewy, and didn't taste fishy. We got the spicy mayo sauce which had a slight sweetness to it that I enjoyed and we also got the wasabi based sauce one that was sharp and light but not too spicy. The one down side is that every side that you add (ie. seaweed salad, edamame, radish, etc. and even furikake) is an additional charge. And it's pretty hefty too, ranging from $0.99-$1.80 depending on what you want to add. This definitely discouraged us from adding sides (which we were unsure if that was the point in order to better enjoy the poke quality itself). It would have been nice be able to have a set amount of sides that came with the poke and then charge additional extra sides instead. Ambiance wise, the only seating is outside literally on a spot that was formerly a parking spot right outside of the place. The trip and the long line is definitely worth it as the fish is extremely fresh. I like driving down the street so I can picnic by the Capistrano Beach while enjoying the fresh poke. They do have a small parking lot with some spots or there is also street parking nearby. They have a couple tables outside for seating, but are mostly known for takeout. Since they are a smaller shop, lines can form quickly but they do move pretty fast. For their menu, they have a solid selection of different bowl options for you to customize. I was lucky to be first in line when I went and ordered two orders of regular poke. Simple ingredients, not too overwhelming with options, and I was allowed to mix my sauces (yay!). First things first, parking is not great here and it is on the side of a street. There was a long line out the door, though it did move decently fast. The shop itself is very small and there is only outdoor seating. Menu is pretty limited but what they do have they do very well. Highkey was super duper excited to try this place after all this time. I've seen people recommend it on Reddit, TikTok, and generally the good ratings here and on Google. Was left feeling quite disappointed considering it presents itself as Hawaiian style poke. It's like, you lose all the benefits of Mainland Poke with your customizability where it's more like sushi-roll in a bowl or Chipotle/Cava where you get to add your own toppings and combo. Take for example Uroko and literally any other Mainland Poke Spot, generally they load you up on toppings and don't nickel and dime you. Yet I'm paying $1, $1.30 and $1.80 EACH mind you for any one of the toppings which is insane. Truly is just rice and fish, but no sides, no FURIKAKE even which is so basic. Literally only 4 flavors, I think you're allowed to choose 2 to mix. You have a choice of tuna, salmon, octopus or some combination of all. My biggest problem with Mainland Poke is that generally the fish isn't as fresh and because it's made to order, the fish isn't marinated in the sauce, so the flavor never deeply gets itself in the fish. It's literally ragebait how they're saying hawaiian-style poke and I'm being shafted on all ends.. Vbe is chill, small parking lot, no inside seating, order from the front of the door like a hole in the wall dim sum place operating out of a Westminster grocery store. There's outside seating and some parking in the nearby neighborhood. Fish itself quality wise I think was fine, not super like crystally frozen tasting or fishy smelling but the flavor just wasn't there. Regardless my rating is literally due to the fact that they're nickel and diming on basic toppings that otherwise are free everywhere else. We always buy our pokes and walk to Pines Park because it has breath taking view eventhough it was hot bit we enjoyed beautiful view and cute squirrels that were playing around...So, forget about dining in side and patio isnt normal patio you are seated between all the chaos! The portion of food is too small eventhough we ordered large bitit was fresh fish and delicious and we enjoyed. If you dont like poke and only est poke with shrimp there is no shrimp to fill your bowl! The ahi tuna was okay tho, it wasn't fishy or anything but didn't taste as buttery compared to the salmon. I really liked how they gave us big chunks of fish tho!
