    Wasabi poke (tuna and salmon)
    Liz B.

A small but authentic poke shop with large chunks of fresh seafood! We decided to come here for a quick bite while on a road trip, as it was a close distance from the 5 freeway. I tried the two scoop poke bowl with tuna and salmon, and while the portion was a little small, it was still an affordable price with fresh fish! It's closer to an authentic Hawaiian poke bowl, focusing more on just fish and rice. I enjoyed the wasabi sauce, I thought it added a nice flavor to the bowl, and I also appreciated the amount of onions. Parking is a little limited, and there is no indoor seating. There's a small window to order from, and a few tables outside to enjoy your poke! I would definitely come back if I was in the area.

Long line on Saturday 1pm but it was worth the wait! Very few seating fyi and smaller portion size than some of the other poke places but everything tasted fresh and good. Line is for ordering and food comes out pretty fast and the guy taking our order was nice.

pretty decent sizeable chunks of fish here. they let you pick the base (white rice, brown rice, or cabbage) and the sauce for choice of fish. They have all sorts of combos available like all salmon/tuna/octopus, or mix and match. the poke tasted good but it wasn't outstanding for me. I wouldnt make the trip again bc its far for me but if i lived closer, i would. Service is pretty quick. You order at the front and theyll call your name when its ready. seating is limited. theres only a few tables and chairs to sit. Parking is also tough. There were only 3 spaces to park in so it's better to park elsewhere and walk.

Solid poke spot in the Capistrano area. The line was quite long midday Saturday. The fish tasted fresh, the flavor was really good as well. The regular portion is smaller than I expected compared to other poke spots. Limited parking and seating at the store. Remember to not park in front of the liquor store as you will get in trouble for that!

This place is as good as any average poke spot. I really don't understand the allure. Fish I good quality as to be expected, nothing exceptional. Prices are high for small protein portions. Each topping has an additional price, not normal practice in my experience. Small parking lot, approximately 8 spaces. No inside dining, all take out.

This place is definitely not the best poke spot in OC - that honor would definitely go to North Shore Poke Co in Huntington Beach, not even on the same page in comparison. The food here is not worth the high price. But, fresh fish is not cheap to start with, so the only way around this is for Kawamata Seafood to improve the quality of their fish. It honestly tasted pre-frozen, which I really don't like. The original sauce tasted better on the cabbage base than it did with the poke fish, and that's not a great thing when the main ingredient is the fish and not the cabbage. The toppings were super plentiful and honestly were too much for the bowl as a whole, as in, not well-balanced. Maybe this is because they know their pre-frozen fish doesn't have the greatest taste. The service was honestly terrible. The young male who took my order couldn't be ruder and gave off the impression that he just doesn't care about doing a good job with customer service. The young female who gave me my order when it was ready was also dead to the world and left me with a very bad impression of the staff as a whole at this place. There isn't much to be said about the vibe as it's right next to the road with one picnic table for everyone to share, to the point where I took my food back to my car and ate in there because there was nowhere else to sit. It's probably best described as mismanagement causing a quietly hectic sinking ship. I will not be returning here.

This place feels like home. It's so simple. You order at the door. The menu is simple as well. The fish quality was top knotch. I mean it tastes like it was just caught that same day! I really can't express how yummy this place is. I'm going to come back!! This after paddle boarding is the best!

I went on a Wednesday afternoon and the line was not long. Customer service is kind, and the prices and portions are great. I been on the look out for a Poke place that is similar to the quality and taste in Hawaii, with a reasonable price. This place is it! A large poke bowl for $16.50 and large portions of fresh salmon. Compared to their competitors in Huntington Beach/Newport Beach, this place comes closest to Poke similar to Hawaii. The line might be long to place an order but to get the food is quick. Finding street parking isn't difficult, and there is limited seating with a long line. Will be coming back!

Prepare to fall in line. We made sure to try this spot as we were heading out of Dana Point one weekend, and it was definitely worth a try. We went right as they opened at 11:30am on a Friday and the line was already so long. As someone whose main reference of poke are decent local chains around OC, I can say the quality of the fish was for sure fresh and high. The chunks of fish were huge, and each fish options comes with soy sauce and white onion - which was delicious. We also got one with octopus which was surprisingly good as it had a great texture, not too chewy, and didn't taste fishy. We got the spicy mayo sauce which had a slight sweetness to it that I enjoyed and we also got the wasabi based sauce one that was sharp and light but not too spicy. The one down side is that every side that you add (ie. seaweed salad, edamame, radish, etc. and even furikake) is an additional charge. And it's pretty hefty too, ranging from $0.99-$1.80 depending on what you want to add. This definitely discouraged us from adding sides (which we were unsure if that was the point in order to better enjoy the poke quality itself). It would have been nice be able to have a set amount of sides that came with the poke and then charge additional extra sides instead. Ambiance wise, the only seating is outside literally on a spot that was formerly a parking spot right outside of the place. This is more of a grab and go place as you can't even go inside the establishment - you order right at the door. So we took our poke to a local park around the corner which was nice!

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place after visiting dozens of times already!! This is a wonderful poke place with lightly seasoned fish over rice. I usually bring my own soy sauce and other extra toppings as it seems silly to pay for extras. There are some parking spots onsite but I usually just park on the street. The trip and the long line is definitely worth it as the fish is extremely fresh. I like driving down the street so I can picnic by the Capistrano Beach while enjoying the fresh poke. Life can't get much better than enjoying the beautiful view and eating such delicious, reasonably priced, and super fresh poke. Seriously, unless you're averse to the idea of eating raw fish, the place is definitely worthwhile visiting at least once!

Kawamata Seafood is serving up some of the best Hawaiian style poke in South OC and beyond! This spot is located right on the corner of a residential neighborhood. They do have a small parking lot with some spots or there is also street parking nearby. They have a couple tables outside for seating, but are mostly known for takeout. Since they are a smaller shop, lines can form quickly but they do move pretty fast. For their menu, they have a solid selection of different bowl options for you to customize. I ended up getting a large bowl with Salmon and Tuna and a scoop of Imitation Crab. Overall, I am glad I was finally able to stop by and check them out. Their fish is super fresh here and the portions are very generous. All of the staff are friendly and welcoming. Come stop by for yourself to see if they have some of the best poke in South OC or not!

Delicious, fresh, and tender poke. This is a cute little small shop with very limited parking and limited outdoor seating. Went on a Sunday afternoon and there was a short wait. Their poke is more traditional and does not come with a lot of toppings. The quality of fish makes up for the lack of toppings. I would definitely come back again when I'm in a poke mood.

Recommended to me by a fellow yelper, Kawamata is a small poke shop in Dana Point. They open at 11:30 AM sharp and the line starts to form from there. I was lucky to be first in line when I went and ordered two orders of regular poke. Simple ingredients, not too overwhelming with options, and I was allowed to mix my sauces (yay!). They are a bit pricey for the portion that is given, but the poke is fresh! Also they serve coconut waters here which is my personal favorite. You can't actually walk inside the shop, and order at the desk by the door. Limited seating outside, which tells me people often get theirs to-go. Service is fast as well.

Our favorite item was the tempura shrimp, literally would get an order for each person next time it was that good!! The garlic wings were good too, on our next visit we need to try more of the small bites for happy hour because everything we got was great! For our mains we got the clam steamers and a seafood cioppino. The clam steamers were good and served alongside fries and some tasty bread for dipping. The cioppino wasn't our favorite but we were full from so many tasty things we didn't even mind. Service was fairly quick for how packed they were, literally every table both inside and outside the store were full because everyone was coming for the happy hour. We got a bit of pushback when we asked for a takeout container for the cioppino we didn't eat because staff assumed we wanted to get our happy hour food to go which is not allowed. Once we explained that the 3 happy hour items we ordered were all consumed and cleared from the table and that we wanted the takeout contained for our cioppino, they gave us the box. They also appear to be dog friendly as there were several pups in the outdoor dining area:) We will definitely be back and can't wait to try some new yummy items!

The menu looks great, offering what looks to be delicious seafood. And I imagine that they offer great seafood. , just not in the form of a lobster roll. I was born and raised in New England and I know what a Maine style lobster roll is. What they offer here is nothing like a Maine style lobster roll and honestly, it tasted gross.. The iconic Maine lobster roll is made from simple ingredients, It is the perfect combination of mounds of lobster , mayonnaise, and lemon juice maybe a little salt.. served chilled in a toasted bun. Sometimes you get minced celery . What was served to me at Hook and Anchor was a lobster roll served in a brioche bun, and when I looked at it, it looked like it had hot cheese on top of it. But that wasn't cheese.. That was hot garlic mayonnaise, or aoili. I had to eat it with a knife of fork, and the overwhelming flavor is garlic. That's too bad because lobster has a delicate flavor and overpowering it with hot garlic, mayonnaise , it just was not very good It was bad. Again a lobster roll is served cold and that it was hot made it worse. If this is what you serve please don't say it's a Maine style lobster because it absolutely is not. However, we did split a clam chowder and that was delicious so my guess is that they have items on the menu that are good and I probably will go back to try their other entrees But please don't tell people that this is a Maine style lobster roll. And lastly, there is another classic style of lobster., I think that's considered New York, and that is warm a lobster with melted butter, drizzled all through it that I think does have minced celery . This style of lobster roll is decadent and delicious. And I don't understand how people who review lobster rolls on TikTok and Instagram somehow in Orange County don't know what a classic Maine lobster roll is

That said, as locals, we likely won't be returning -- and that's a shame, because it is in a nice location. The valet experience was a bit of a stumble right out of the gate -- my boyfriend was directed to navigate between two tight rows of parked cars with no guidance and wasn't given a valet ticket. He had to go back and ask for one. For a resort charging resort prices, that's not a great welcome. The restaurant was also under construction during our visit, which blocked all views of the ocean and pool -- the very thing that typically justifies resort-level pricing. No adjustment was made for this. Then came the bill. A bagel with salmon and a coffee came to $40 before anything extra. Add an automatic 20% gratuity (applied without disclosure to a party of two), $10 for parking, and what started as a simple breakfast crept up to nearly $70. We weren't given a choice about the gratuity -- at that point it's not a tip, it's a mandatory dining fee. Just call it what it is. Has everyone forgotten that gratuity is supposed to be a choice -- based on customer service and satisfaction? Apparently some have. When we brought it up on the way out, the woman at the front mentioned that auto-gratuity is now "the norm" and that tipped workers make below minimum wage. We're in California, where that's actually not legally permitted. Offering misinformation as justification for a policy that removes the customer's choice isn't a great look. We've dined at fancier hotels in the area and have never encountered a surprise mandatory gratuity. The restaurant was also nearly empty during our visit, with mostly hotel guests. If this restaurant wants to attract locals rather than just captive hotel guests, reconsidering these pricing and gratuity practices would be a genuine step in the right direction. came here for a quick bite on valentines day. rating would've been ~3 stars, but the service really…read moremessed it up for me and my partner one of the owners (i'm assuming) took our order, but he repeated the same things many times, to the point where i asked for the receipt at the end to make sure everything was correct (and good thing i did, too). they then gave what i'm assuming was our order to another couple, and also served people who arrived after us. i had to get up and hang out by the cashier for them to notice me, and they didn't know whose order was tied to who since they almost gave away our order to someone else again. the cashier man even said "was i the one who took your order?" when he did literally 15 minutes ago. then, when they finally called our name, they gave us a packaged to-go order when we wanted to dine in, and the order was completely wrong. the other owner (i'm assuming his wife), went back and forth to the kitchen 3 more times to either correct our order or bring back things they forgot that we had to remind them to bring. even when we gave her the receipt i kept, the order would still come back wrong. the other parties served had finished eating and left by the time we finally got all of our food the staff was generally nice. they apologized a lot, thanked us for our patience, checked up on us, & offered 1 free coleslaw (~$3.50) and 2 little chocolates. but they didn't offer us any sort of real compensation and after messing up our order 3+ times, and being understanding about it, we were pretty surprised i am strict with lobster rolls since i'm always comparing it to what i've had during my time in boston (impossible to beat), and i thought the food was just alright. boyfriend thought it was pretty dry and not that tasty for $100+, i'd expect much better service and better food
