What a fantastic decision! We were in a bit of a rush to get to our next adventure, and with long lines at other restaurants in Buena Vista, we decided to give Kawa a try. The food is absolutely terrific--fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. We had the chicken tikka masala, and I can honestly say it might be the best I've ever had. (Be sure to order the naan, too!) This place deserves a line out the door! Don't make our mistake and pass this one by--Kawa is a must-visit for anyone looking for incredible food in Buena Vista.

Vindalo and the korma. Birani rice was excellent.

Pretty good Indian food! The guy working was super nice and had a good vibe. I'd recommend it.

An empty dining area on a Friday night!

The ambience is very nice. It is open and bright and clean and Asian. They also had a case of desserts (like tiramisu) and ice cream. I've been going to Fairplay for years. I never stopped here because I didn't know what it would be like. Well let me tell you, the service could not have been better. Welcoming, efficient, readily able to make requested adjustments to dishes. There are many items on the menu to choose from. We had tofu and vegetables sesame chicken. Both were just so amazingly delicious. I actually find myself thinking of finding an excuse to go back to FairPlay so I can get such wonderful food again because in my area it's hard to find such good Asian food. I cannot recommend this place enough. It checked all of the boxes and then some. The only downside is there are no lunch specials but I felt like the food was worth every penny we paid.

We had the edamame, the crab Rangoon which is minus crab but seems to have Rangoon sauce and the fried gyoza which were yummy. While this restaurant may seem very unassuming from the outside, I promise, when you step inside,…read moreyou won't be disappointed. One of my favorite features is Ramen Wednesdays. More recently, we sat at the bar last week to enjoy both happy hour, and the ramen menu. The bartender was great, and checked in with us regularly. We started with a small plate of the bistro fries - which comes covered in Truffle Oil, Herbs de Provence, and Parmesan Cheese - they're super good, and would say better than a certain CB restaurant's crack fries. The small order was plenty for the three of us to share. For drinks, we started with wine, beer, and I had a mojito. The mojito wasn't my favorite - for some reason, it was really sweet. Second drink was a glass of Sauvignon blanc, which went well with the ramen. On to the ramen - I went with the Boo-Tan-E-Koo Pork broth, traditional wavy noodles, pork belly, poached egg, tempura, green onion, buttered sweet corn, chile thread, fresh ginger, sesame seeds. It was delicious, flavorful, and I couldn't get through the whole bowl (I took about half of it home). That was my first time taking ramen home, and would note it heated up nicely for lunch the next day. We will absolutely be back to try more of the menu!

It looks creative in a way that they combine two different cuisines and cultures (Vietnamese and Japanese to say it exact) and yet what they came up with is nothing but a tourist trap place that lacks authenticity. It's on the second floor of a building. The restaurant is clean and spacious with ample tables and chairs. Since we were there well outside of the busy lunch hour, we got the employees' undue attention. And they were quite welcoming and friendly. The food? Meh. Everything we got lacked the true authenticity. -Lunch Nigiri: The four nigiris simply didn't look fresh. Fortunately however, they didn't taste bad. And yet the overall quality was mediocre at best. This combo plate came with a salad and a soup (called Japanese soup). The salad was the worst out of all where it looked and tasted old and stale. And the soup? It wasn't a miso soup. It's a clear broth soup. But my question was, "What's Japanese about it anyway?" -Agedashi tofu: They really need to work on the "presentation" more. This skimpy looking dish simply didn't look good. It surprisingly didn't taste bad but it failed to impress us. Another mediocre dish. -Thai tea with boba: My daughter didn't care for it at all. I took a sip of it. It tasted a bit too bitter where the tea appeared to have been over-brewed. Yikes! The three stars might be a bit too much of an inflated assessment. And yet I appreciated the friendliness of the employees so 1 additional star is the manifestation of my sincere gratitude to them.

The cheese tan tan was good, probably just a bit too much on the cheese so I would stick with more of a classical ramen if I were to go back. The one thing that caught my eye that I wasn't a fan of was the pricing. I looked at a standard tonkatsu which is kind of my baseline when I'm looking at different ramens. If I wanted to add in all the vegetables that are normally standard and an egg it would go from the $17 base to almost $26 or $9 more when compared to a very comparable competitor nearby that has it priced at $17.50 for a tonkatsu with all the same base, vegetables, egg, etc. That was the reason for the option on our side to stick with the pre-selected specialties so we didn't have to jump through hoops pricing wise. Which takes me to service normally. I like to get three adult meals and split one of the adult size portion between my 4 and 6-year-old. Some places are very accommodating and will go out of their way to split it in the back kitchen so we aren't making a mess at the table. Others are kind of like, Yeah, we'll give you an extra bowl and you do you... Normally I'm not picky and I wouldn't care one way or the other, but since I was already irked by the pricing when I asked if they could do that for me in the kitchen they said " that wouldn't be very easy for the chef so I'll just bring you the bowls".. I'm glad we're doing what's easy for the chef and not for me the customer.

However, it is a shame to find only a single server on duty, a familiar face who has been here for years, or at least as long as I can remember.
