My optometrist has been keeping an eye on (pun intended) my developing cataracts for a couple years…read moreand this spring proved to be time for surgery. My optometrist recommended Dr. Laurence Kaye and Tucson Eye Care, the doctor and office she sent her mom to. The soonest appointment was in three weeks, when my eyes were measured and tested and then I met with Dr. Kaye, the surgeon. He explained the procedure and my options. Medicare covers lens replacement, but for additional cost I could upgrade to eliminate my astigmatism and achieve 20/20 vision near and far, and not need glasses or contacts. Seemed like quite a plan. Well, today was my final post-operative checkup. I have better than 20/20 vision and couldn't be more pleased. All the technicians, office staff, Dr. Kaye, and Dr. Siekert were kind, informative, caring, and supportive. The actual procedures were done at the Camp Lowell Surgery Center, which has the same quality of compassionate care as the Tucson Eye Care. I could not have asked for a better experience or outcome and HIGHLY recommend.

While I was working in SoCal (but living here) I used to get my prescription glasses in SoCal with Crizal coatings - I still have some where the coatings have lasted years. 3 yrs ago, I purchased news lens & frames ($$$) and the coating started delaminating; surprise, "they" only put a 2 yr warranty on the lenses but are more than happy to sell you ($$$) a new pair. The reason I went with that coating is the advertised life time guarantee. Buyer beware!

I was sad to leave Dr Lewis because he was the best Dr., kindest, most thorough Dr. I had ever been to. I hated to leave his practice. Now living in Baltimore, having gone through 3 incompetent opthamalogist I finally found the "new" Dr. Lewis who I have found to be very much like Dr. Lewis in AZ. What a relief to find another competent Opthamalogist with the same attention to detail and a caring concern for my eye health. If Dr. Lewis happens to read this I want to thank him for his concern and care while I lived in Tucson, AZ. I have found that in Baltimore, excellent doctors are hard to find. Thank you Dr. Lewis. I switched to Sunburst optical in Rita Ranch Tucson east from the previous local optometrist firm i…read morewas using. (Switched insurance companies and the previous place didn't take my new insurance, just the big insurance I was currently on). It's too bad because I liked them and the doctor a lot, even though they were 15 miles from home in the center of Tucson. I chose Sunburst for ONE REASON ONLY. They were very close to where I reside. Factor in gas prices these days, yea I'm retired and frugal. So, I go there for my initial eye checkup appt. (Nice right? A close and short commute) and I am quickly re-scheduled for an additional eye appt IN "GREEN VALLEY"?!?! over 30 miles away (one way). "Vista Eye Care". What's odd is every appt. rescheduled now from here on out is at "Green Valley" (60 miles round trip with gas at $4.50 a gal.) Opposed to "SUNBURST OPTICAL" 7 miles away. Is this conjob to lasso customers away from Tucson and make them drive way down there? Appears so. So every appt here on out they expect me to drive 60 miles rather rather than 14 miles to Sunburst? Right down the road? Hmmm. Apparantly my time and gas costs are no concern to Sunburst/Vista eyecare. Why the different names? Something isn't right here. And as well, a month after my "last" appt in Green Valley, after paying them my $35 copay at "Vista Eye Care", I received an additional bill for something that isn't clear about what the charge is pertaining to, just some abbreviated garble. And trust me, it WAS my last appt. with Sunburst/Vista or whatever they want to call themselves. I'm not driving 60 miles to get my eyes checked when there are hundreds of eye specialists just around the corner from Sunburst optical. Why don't they consider distance and the fact I reached out to Sunburst at Rita Ranch initially NOT Vista in "Green Valley". Are they even concerned one bit about how they are detouring customers down to Green Valley. Tax loophole or whatever they are really trying to do, I'm out! Apparantly it doesn't matter to them, but it matters to me. And they seem more concerned about some vote to be the best optical firm in Tucson when they are really in Green Valley? Man! There is nothing above and beyond what any other optical place/optometrist does for you except running your gas tank empty. Crazy and as backwards as the world today.

Long story short, the vision insurance sucked bad so I canceled it and went back to Affinity where I pay out-of-pocket (note, they do accept insurance, but they just weren't covered on my terrible/obscure vision plan). ANYWHO, the office is lovely. Feels almost "posh" when you're in the waiting room. The front dest staff are friendly and personable and the doctors are kind and knowledgable. The equipment is all new, nice, and properly functioning (because I've totally been to places with the fancy new equipment....but it doesn't work so they still rely on archaic methods for assessing vision). The only thing I don't like is how they REALLY try to make you buy your lenses/contacts from them. Honestly, though, that's how all vision places seem to be so I guess that's the norm - must be where the real money is in the business. But they're nice enough. I always decline their lenses/frames and just take my prescription to Costco (cheapest in town - even cheaper than the online sites!) Moral of the story - I'm happy to be back as a customer at Affinity! I'll never stray again!

I first when for a complaint of dry eye and was treating with plugs day of my appointment. My mom was seen by Dr. Richard Lewis, MD for an eye infection. Normally they would dilate, but he explained why this was not a safe option to do on her eyes. She was incredibly impressed and thankful to him for his clinical excellence. Dr. Lewis noted that her eyes were at high risk of acute narrow angle glaucoma attacks that, aside from being incredibly painful, can result in loss of eyesight. He thoroughly explained why she was at risk and how cataract surgery will not only eliminate her risk, but will drastically improve her vision given her advanced stage of cataracts. He thoroughly explained risks and benefits of the surgery. My sister actually had had an acute narrow angle glaucoma attack (a traumatic experience) a few years ago, which was treated (elsewhere in another state) by lasering a hole through her iris (which was stressful) , and recently opted to preemptively get cataract surgery. My mom previously was too scared to consider cataract surgery, but walked out of there actually excited to get it. She is thankful to have her risk of acute angle glaucoma eliminated. She was referred to Dr. Henry, who did her first eye today. Dr. Henry and Oracle Eye's carefully orchestrated set up are superb. Could not be happier! She can seethe world in technicolor once again. Blues are blue again instead of green, white is bright and clean. The procedure didn't take long and she was comfortable. She's looking forward to getting eye #2 done.
