Okay-- BEST POKE ON THE TRIP AWARD goes to... this spot…read more We've had Ono before, on a prev. trip. Great. But then we fell hard for Off-the-Hook. This trip... Ono Seafood won the battle. This poke was SO FRESH, I could taste the knife, the boat, the water, the morning sun... all in good ways. It was divine. The catch? Maybe their DRY RUB... I have spicy habits, and tend to get poke lathered in spicy sauce. This poke had no sauce, just a dry salt / pepper rub - and the dryness of the fish, helped me TRULY taste the TEXTURE, freshness, and the QUALITY of the fish. Blown away. The owner (or manager) came out to check on us, and thank us for coming out. Told us the fish had been REALLY good lately, out there on the water. We could taste it. Love the tempura flakes they add on top. Can't wait to go back!

This place is hidden in the Kalama Valley shopping center, at the 4 way stop. Not much in there but…read morewow, there's Ono seafood. They have fresh ahi and tako poke which you can get by the pound or as bowls. The regular is $16 and the large is $18 and you can have a choice of two kinds of poke. I got the Hawaiian style tako poke with limu and chili pepper and it's yum! Might say tho, it's a little heavy on the Hawaiian salt. It also has a bit of a kick from the chili pepper. It's served plain but you can add on things like furikake, ginger for 75 cents or avocado slices for $1.50. Also you can get it with white or brown rice. Not all places has tako poke as part of the regular menu so if you like tako and you're in Hawaii Kai or coming in from Sandy's or Waimanalo side, stop here for your fix.

We visited the first annual Oktoberfest and it did not disappoint. Our food was absolutely amazing…read moreand spot on. Jagersnitzle, bratwurst and apple strudel were all amazing. Great beer choices also. We are sad this is only for five days. Please bring this back next year! The staff were all great as well.

Some cute little niche thing: -the menu has a guide that translates words on the menu that you may not understand, thats great! -theres a little shawl thing on the back of the chairs and i thiiiink you can use them if you get chili. (i wore a spaghetti strapped dress and was not cold at all but thats because i just have a warm internal temperature) FOOD: -bread and butter it is everything that everyone else has raved on about, delicious breads and your choice to pair with two different butters a sweet one and a savory one -the branzino (this is what i was looking forward to theeeeee most). its a 2lb fish. there were NO BONES AND LOTS OF MEAT. the bones were by the collar but i literally only got maybe 1 or 2 little bones. -piripiri chicken really does just fall off the bone and both the cabbage and potatoes have a nice flavor on their own. the piripiri chicken had a nice crispy skin and that hot sauce in the chicken glass jar - yes a thousand times. its got a kick but its delicious. -oxtail stew, the oxtail was soft, and the soup savory i had some left over bread that i had dipped in and ugh so good Also - Order the bloody mary! There was no Peroni this night and I skipped on the Ola beers because I can honestly get that any where. Im a beer girly. I cant with any kind of hard alcohol but i took a chance on the bloody mary and it was surprisingly yummy and i didnt get the alcohol taste at first i got more of that savory tomato, smokey sort of idk because like i said i love beer. The bloody mary was delicious and I will be comparing every future bloody mary with this one. Mahalo Faria, Im trying to make reservations for Octoberfest. Please save me a spot on 10/05 a monday which you guys are supposedly not open and i cant book on your website.

NEW SUNDAY BRUNCH SPOT AT THE ORIGINAL ROY'S!…read more Well, they did it again! They brought a new bloody mary to the menu. Of course, I had to try it. It had a little twist of kim chee, celery and olive on a skewer. It was the perfect kick to a wonderfully manicured cocktail. My friend Dejon N Ohelo Kaopio had a pog mimosa. I forgot to ask how it was? We ordered the crab cake benedict and seared ahi breakfast. The winner of the day, the crab cake benedict. The way they do that sauce was wanting me to pick up the plate and lick it. Folks, it was that good! Take the bread and get every morsel. The seared ahi was good but more like a canape or open sandwich. The bacon was super onolicious. We had an amazing server named Cal. He surprised us with 25 dollar gift cards for dining with them on their first Sunday brunch. Scored! I was able to use my OpenTable credits for my dinning points. They have done rare brunches before but this is here to stay! Don't forget to book your next Sunday brunch and tell me your thoughts! We had the most spectacular views of Koko Head and Diamond Head. It's always such a wonderful way to spoil ourselves

We were a party of four for dinner. Had a rez and escorted upstairs and got a window seat to view…read moresunset.(unfortunately the weather not cooperating as a storm was coming in; otherwise, it would've been gorgeous). Two diners ordered the butterfish; and I had the fish trio. I should've just stuck with the butterfish as well since that was cooked and season perfectly; whereas the other two fishes seemed to be muted in flavor in comparison. Perhaps it would have been instructive to start with the sashimi, and then move onto the cooked fishes. The second cooked fish was a bit dry, even with the sauce. Staff were crazy attentive with water refill. We took awhile to decide on our drinks, we individually got some drinks but order a bottle to celebrate. Unfortunately, they ran out of my first choice of bubbly. The bottle we winded ordering was brought to the table and chilled properly and stuck into the ice bucket to keep its cool temperature. Staff was attentive to the pour and refill as well. The dim sum boat came out and each item was very good. Ribs were smoky and tasty. The sashimi was fresh and full of spices but missing a salt savory element. Kim chi house made was fairly mild and not very salty. Our friends stated this was their fav spot (away from the hustle and bustle of anything near Waikiki), plenty of parking, normally gorgeous sunset. Nice spot to return to.

Good food, okay service. I stood at the host stand for quite a while with the rest of my party…read morewhile we waited for a host to ever notice us. Finally, got seated and a server eventually came by. The pepperoni rolls are delicious as always. We tried the paniolo burger (excellent) and the It's a Gouda burger (good, but I couldn't really taste the aioli or the Gouda). The mac salad on the side is fairly good although I prefer Zippy's because it's more flavorful. Kona's is a bit on the bland side. I got an itty bitty beer to go with my drink and didn't realize that the 5 ounce pour was basically the size of one of their little taster flight beers, but it's $4.25, where the 10 ounce is $6.25. Kind of wish my server had pointed out the 10 ounce is a better value, but they were extremely casual and seemed pretty distracted the whole time, so I don't think they thought to mention it. The 15% off for kama'aina makes the food a better deal. A nice place for a bite to eat and to try some interesting beers and seltzers on tap.
