High pressure for quick repairs, over price repair ( more than dealership) no quotes in writing.

Baker's Transmission Service

Baker's Transmission Service

Big shout out to Glen and the crew at Baker's Transmission in Grand Junction for a job WELL done…read more They took on my 48RE that had been built in Utah that was a total failure with only 3388 miles on it. They got me fixed up in record time at a very fair price. Their build is the transmission that I wish I had gotten in the first place. I am well pleased with the job, and I highly recommend them. They will definitely get my work from now on. I give them a solid 5 stars. D.P. Green River, UT.

My wife and I were returning home and about 70 miles out of town when the automatic transmission on…read moreour 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee wouldn't shift properly as our speed increased, and then the vehicle began lurching. So we got off the highway and called for towing service. In the meantime I called Baker's Transmission and confirmed that they would be able to look at the vehicle and at least diagnose the problem in the next day or two... to which they said yes. After a long wait for towing and ride back to Grand Junction, the service writer again confirmed they'd get to the vehicle in a day or two. Although she seemed a little put out when I asked if she could tell the towing driver herself where to unload the vehicle. And no way they could provide a ride for us home. So a few days go by and no response; we stop there in person and get the same story... a day or two more. After a full week has gone by, I'm starting to get a little impatient, but was never mean or verbally aggressive in any way. I just wanted answers for why it was taking so long, or if they could suggest a range of possibilities for the problem. By then we're new car shopping as transmissions can be really expensive. The answer was always something that said nothing: "We're waiting on driveshaft parts prices... we'll call you when we can tell you something." What's a driveshaft? "We'll call later with that information." Can I speak with the owner? "No, he's not available. We'll call you later." At that point, the frustration level on the part of both the service employee and customer is at a boiling point. Okay, I get it. I've been in business for myself for over 40 years. In sales, I could always recognize interference from gatekeepers when I was not gonna get to speak to the owner. No way. No how. Nobody gets to see the Great Wizard of Oz. Proverbial door in face... and get out of my hair. And that was this person at Baker's. I also understand there are things that happen outside the control of the business owner that make the customer unhappy. But it's the responsibility of the business owner to explain the situation and initiate communication. Not ignore it and wait until the customer is ready to explode, or leave it in the hands of an employee who could not possibly care less. The absolute worst part of this mess (and motivation for this review) was that the service writer person was blaming me for wasting so much of her time (5-10 minutes asking apparently stupid questions) preventing her from doing her work. I consider myself a patient person... but I draw the line when the business screws up and then plays the victim role, blaming me for their problems. To lay this review to rest, the mechanic called on the phone after I left a few minutes later, stating that he was unable to replicate the symptoms. He was courteous enough explaining how there could be intermittent issues with a sensor, wiring, or something of that nature (information I would loved to have had a week before). But the vehicle seemed drivable. That's all I needed to hear in order to get back over there and retrieve my Jeep before I was tempted to strangle someone (that's a joke... I'm not a violent person). But if you've ever felt like an auto repair business was giving you the run-around... this was the queen of all such encounters. Oh... and they charged me $100 for that little bit of terrible service. And the transmission symptoms are still there.

I was looking online at a car for sale at a local GJ dealership. After a call to an another shop,…read morethey referred me to Hunter @ Antonellli's for a long distance pre-purchase inspection. I had an outstanding experience! Communication was clear, Hunter was flexible, and prompt, in getting the car in and inspected for me! He was always kind and also quite thorough. I felt confident about the condition of the car (especially since they specialize in keeping high mileage cars, like I drive, going and going well!) and my $165 was well spent! Thanks, Hunter, and Antonelli's!!!

I brought a Subaru Impreza to this shop in June 2026 to diagnose the cause of recurring oil drips…read morecoming from the engine/transmission area. The Antonelli's mechanic who inspected the car concluded that these drips were coming from a bad oil plug gasket, and coolant leaking from a "melted radiator" that would cost roughly $3,000 to replace. I authorized the mechanic to change the oil plug gasket and do an accompanying oil change (which they mishandled by overfilling the oil level), and then took the car to the local Subaru dealership. The Subaru dealership mechanic quickly traced the oil leaks to bad gaskets on the transmission check plug which cost $100 to fix. The radiator was perfectly fine. The dealership mechanic was at a loss as to how someone could have recommended replacing it. And the best part - oil was still seeping around the oil drain plug. The root cause of which was an aftermarket oil plug that some shop had installed years ago. It's a minor inconvenience I can live with until my next oil change. My advice - if you own a Subaru, avoid this shop at all costs. You'll be money ahead taking it to the local Subaru dealership instead.

They did a fine job and also performed their "38 point inspection", and mentioned the transmission fluid looked dark, so did I want that changed also? Sure. Then..."THE call"! Uh, we dropped the transmission pan to drain the fluid, and there were parts in the bottom of the pan. Huh? Parts? Like, loose in the transmission?!! Yep. Something about a spring clip, and you're lucky you didn't get stuck in reverse or some such. Turns out they weren't a transmission place, but they (like several others) recommended MONTE'S MOTOR CITY in Grand Junction. We got the truck to Monte's and I was immediately impressed with the responsiveness, the personal attention to expertly answering all my questions, and fact that they have been in business something like forty years. You don't last that long doing bad work. I also note that they rebuild their own transmissions using heavy duty parts, because they apparently had bad experiences years ago getting rebuilds elsewhere. So now they do it themselves, the right way, and they stand behind their work. Monte also explained the process of how he would take apart the transmission, see what could be salvaged, and how he would do what he could to save me money. In the end, I needed the whole rebuild, but even with that, the job was a couple hundred less than one of the "chain" places I had received an estimate from - and who knows what you get there. I was extremely pleased with the routine communication from Monte. He kept me in the loop during the entire process, and worked to ensure we got the truck, ready to go, for our long trip to IN. In 'response' to the other negative review that is here on Yelp: I cannot fathom what happened with that situation. The author mentions Monte's attitude. Let me tell you, his attitude is fantastic, along with his wife that works there too. These are quite possibly the nicest, most easy going people I've met in a long time. I struggle to see how anyone could have had a run-in with them - they were great to me! Also, the author talks about the actual work, and the transmission they received, and how it failed. Makes me wonder if they've been driving down the highway in 2nd gear or something. My equipment itself, and the mechanical activity to install it was superb. I couldn't be happier with the results. Bottom line, I would frankly disregard the negative review. Some people just can't be made to be happy. The rest of us think Monte's is the place to get your transmission taken care of, right, the first time, at reasonable cost, by fantastic people. There you have it!
