The coleslaw, onion rings, fried pickles were great. Even the hamburger was good, which you can tell isn't hand pattied out but still had good taste. We also had the fish fillets which were good. Kelia was great, she made sure we had everything we needed and answered any questions we had. Again great service . If the restaurant needs anything would be to brighten it up and do some dusting. Would highly recommend this restaurant though. read more

I love the catfish! The hush puppies are also very good. It reminds me of good memories I had as a child.

The food was not something I would order again. We picked up the order to go. Crab cakes, baked potato, and slaw, and blooming onion. The crab cakes were on the dry side, hard to remove from the shell, slaw just ok, baked potato was burned, outside, and scorched inside. Not sure why a place can't cook a baked potato. The blooming onion was overcooked, and all of the oil came with, it looked a pile of overcooked squid. Not a place I would recommend. 5 Stars - The Sauce That Brought Me Home (And Keeps Me Coming Back) I've traveled across the country and back, and I can confidently say that Katie's Katfish has something truly special that you won't find anywhere else, their chicken sauce. Not their catfish (though it's fine), not their BBQ - the chicken sauce. I'm talking about a sauce so good that when I lived in Washington state, I asked the owner for the recipe. He laughed - apparently people have offered him thousands for it. Fair enough. But he was kind enough to sell me a gallon for $25, which I then paid shipping costs to get back to the Pacific Northwest. That gallon lasted me nearly two years of careful rationing, and it was worth every penny and every calculated portion. Now that I'm back in Alabama, I make the hour drive to Katie's every other month, and it's never a question of "is it worth it?" It always is. This isn't nostalgia talking - I've tested that theory by being away from it for years and having it be exactly as good as I remembered when I came back. The owner clearly knows he's got something unique, and he's protective of it for good reason. It's the kind of place where the food speaks for itself without needing to be trendy or fancy. Just honest, distinctive cooking that happens to include a sauce that will ruin you for lesser chicken experiences. If you're within driving distance and you haven't been, fix that. What a wonderful find! The coleslaw was some of the best I have ever had. The jalapeño poppers were lightly breaded with just the right amount of heat. The best was the whole catfish which had unique light batter and plump meat that was outstanding. All of this great food with exceptional service from our attentive and smiling, Summer. I have had chicken fingers from this place many times but it didn't do them justice getting them fresh at the table. Great all white meat chicken in there crunchy seasoned to perfection batter smothered in there house sauce. They were amazing not taking away from the blooming onion we had before our meal which was great with there homemade ranch dressing. I cant wait to go back to Katys. Service was great and the cabin like atmosphere was neat. read more

Stopped to eat, had not been here in a few years because aof a bad experience walked and the young lady was wiping our table off. She dropped the rag she was wiping the table with on the dirty floor, picked it back up and wiped more of the table with it. We walked out. Just saying !!! Careful. read more

I had the meatloaf, 'creamed potatoes', peas, and hush puppies for lunch today. The meatloaf was the worst meatloaf I've ever eaten in my life. (And I normally LOVE meatloaf). It's like they bought the cheapest ground beef they could find (mushy), added a few bits of onion, put catsup on top, and called it meatloaf. That's it. No flavor. Actually, there was bad flavor. The potatoes were instant,.. Gross! Plus, I didn't ask for gravy. They put some nasty-tasting brown gravy on there anyway. Peas tasted like they were straight from a can. Bland. Hush puppies were bland. Bad meal all around. read more

Well, the catfish WAS very good, I'll say that. But the baked potato it came with was on the cooler side of hot. Potatoes need to be served hot, or how else will the butter melt? The slaw side and hush puppies were also pretty good. Service a little spotty. The bloomin' onion appetizer took forever to arrive, and the place was pretty empty. The booth we sat in really needed to be re-covered or something as it was on the shabby side. Prices are a little high for what you get. Simple lunch for two, no drinks nor dessert was $40. But the kicker was when we watched a cockroach slowly make its way down the wall opposite our booth. I pretty much lost my appetite right there. I know restaurants can frequently battle pests, but when I see one in broad daylight a good distance from the kitchen, well that just turned me off. Katy's is somewhat of a local legend. It seems that anytime I have heard people talking about having family in from out of town they inexplicably already know of this place and want to go there. It has it's pros and cons, but for the most part it is a pretty solid place to eat in Rainsville. The restaurant is built inside a hundred year old cabin, so it feels very rustic. Unfortunately it seems to suffer from a lack of cleanliness at times, you can still smoke there and the ash trays are normally full with ashes on the table tops. I recommend the "chicken coop". This is 20+ chicken fingers, a huge amount of fries, 20+ hush puppies, slaw, and their homemade "chicken sauce" (tastes very sweet) all for $20. Be aware, you have to get this TO GO ONLY. For some reason they will not let you order this dine-in. Also, the food there tends to be extremely greasy sometimes. read more

We ordered 2 chicken finger family packs and the over all quality was not real good. Seemed like they haven't cleaned the grease they cooked the hush puppy's and chicken in in a long while. Also the fries had no salt or any kind of seasoning. How ever the slaw was by far my favorite. It was delicious. The server/cashier was nice and I told her that I was going to blog my experience she said that we would have no problem. Over all I gave them a 2 star rating. read more

This place has been in Rainsville along time but I'm not quite sure how or why. They have this family meal called a chicken coupe of all things. We ordered these for a family get together. The food is very greasy like they use cheap oil or do not change the oil often enough. The fries are without a doubt the worst I ever ate. They are greasy yet have a half cooked taste to them. We did not like the food but family members seem to like it so we tried ordering a second time. We ask could we replace the fries and we were told no. We ask would they cook the fries a little longer. They did not seem happy about it but they said they would. When we got the food home, the fries were not edible. Instead of cooking the fries longer they must have taken the fries that were cooked and dipped them back in the oil to cook again. What a waste of money. Also the people at this place are not very friendly people. Again, how they are still in business amazes me read more

We ordered the fish and chicken family meal and was very disappointed. We have ate here many times and the food was delicious, but not this time. I do admit it was late(near closing) and that may have had something to do with it. Anyway, the fish was awesome! No complaints there. The chicken was just o.k. and a little tough. The fries, hush puppies and slaw were inedible. Hush puppies and fries were hard as a rock like they had been sitting there for hours. The slaw tasted old. If you are ordering take out then don't bother with the fries. They are cold by the time you get home and are not good warmed up. They went straight into the trash. Next day the hush puppies were just a tad better after heating them in the oven. Maybe this was just a fluke. Will give them one more shot, but not in the near future. read more

Bit greasy, but still good chicken fingers. Wouldn't order the burgers, not that great. Chicken fingers are what they are locally famous for, and they hit the mark with them. Try them with ranch, it's the best. Service definitely is hit or miss; but the owner is usually around, and he's very accommodating. If you have young children, children 4 and under eat free! Very nice setting in a very old cabin, which they have done well to preserve after a bad tornado hit a couple of years ago. read more

Went in for lunch with open mind. The place was a bit dark inside but once my eyes adjusted, everything was visible. Had meat and 2 including drink. Only $6.29. Chicken fingers, black eyed peas, greens and a hush puppy. It was pretty good. Husband had huge catfish filet with oysters, slaw, fries and hush puppies $9.49. He liked his but was not able to finish it because there was so much food. We normally do not eat so much fried food but everything was done perfectly without being greasy. We have only ate here once. The food was served bland and cold. There was no flavor to the fish and the cold fries didn't have any seasoning. The serving staff was rude, we got a "what do you want?" and checked on once after our food was served. The atmosphere was crowded. And I mean crowded, like we couldn't scoot our chairs back to get up without bumping into someone. My first impression was that it looked like an ordinary Catfish cabin, but when you walk in it it very dark with the dark wood and low dimmed lighting. Our hostess seated us at a table (booth) that had a small fishing rod and gave us our menus. The waitress was one of THE nicest waitresses on earth! She took our drink order and brought us hush puppies and bowls of cole slaw (best I've had!...except for moms ;) and took our order. We ordered the fried pickles for and apetizer and for my meal I ordered the trio platter of fried oyster, fried shrimp and fried catfish. The appetizer was around $6 and the trio with fries was $11. The oysters were my fave...a strong second was the Catfish which was as thick as a steak! It super clean and no fish taste at all! The shrimp....was huge since it was butterflied open. I had so much food that I didn't eat the fries. I love this place and can't believe I have never been here! Oh! For all the negative comments about it being so greasy and oil in the bottom of their plates...I have to say I did see some of that with the fried pickles, but anyone who goes to eat "fried" food shouldn't give two hoots! Your eating food cooked in oil and it's fresh and quick to your table and so good! Give this place a shot and enjoy! And last the Alabama and Auburn memorabilia make it cozy for the sports fans to. I honestly don't understand the negative remarks. My husband and I drove through on vacation and took a gamble on this restaurant. We were both blown away by the general hospitality you only find in the South and were delighted to receive complimentary hush puppies immediately upon being seated. Though from out of state, we were treated as locals which I enjoyed and found the service and atmosphere to be comfortable. The food was outstanding and the price was affordable. You get a lot of food for what you pay. If we were locals we would be regulars. read more

You get complimentary cole slaw and hush puppies. Both were excellent! Some of the best hush puppies I've had. Unfortunately, the rest of the food didn't follow suit. I had the three item combo (shrimp, oysters & catfish filet.) My wife had the shrimp. All was rather over cooked. There was a puddle of grease in my plate when finished. One other positive was the price I think my meal was like $10 something and my wife's was $9 something. So, you probably won't beat the price anywhere. The name may be catfish with a (K), but the star of the show here is the chicken fingers. The catfish is a little overcooked for me, but everything else has been spot on! No, the fries aren't seasoned, but they are not advertised to be so. Everyone has a different amount of seasonings they prefer, so this is why the salt and pepper are on the table. I've been there when is was very busy and when it was slow, and I've never had anyone be rude or dismissive. The slaw and hush puppies are outstanding. The Katy's sauce is good on absolutely anything! Go here for the chicken fingers and baked potatoes. Carry out a "Chicken Coup" for a family of five or six. They give you plenty of Katy's sauce and other fixing. The fries will be cold by the time you get home, so get baked potatoes instead, or warm up the toaster oven! We go about twice a month.
