If you've been shocked by the skyrocketing price of trees at the usual locations, then you will be pleasantly surprised at the pocket-friendly pricing Bownds extends to retail customers. My most recent visit was to pick up some "Dirty Dirt" which is dirt made from food waste compost from the Heights area of Houston. While they're much more expensive, its top quality product and all of my plants thrive living in it. I planted my most recent batch of garden plants, several different types of Certified Organic/Non-GMO potatoes (the plants are sprouting thru the dirt and it's only been a week!). In addition, I got an Orange tree, Swiss Mint, and a few other little goodies for my back yard. The staff answered all of my questions and I went home feeling like I had a true experience. I spent 2.5 hours there, they were very peaceful and happy 2.5 hours. I highly recommend spending some time here.

Went to check out and he says the tag is wrong on the palm and it's several hundred more and there's was wrong. Then he tells me the Italian Cypress plants I hand picked and took out to the parking lot were tagged wrong as well and were over $100 more each. I show him a whole wall of them all tagged the same. He said they were all tagged wrong. And to top it off no one at the entire place spoke English or knew what was going on. What a terrible way to do business. Will never go back.

The geraniums for $9.99 did not look fresh and appeared dry and yellowish. They had some interesting petunias. I left after buying plants and felt less satisfied from my usual experience with them so I also stopped by their Voss location today -the geraniums there for $9.99 were gorgeous and colorful and well watered. The staff were so cheerful and helpful and greeting all of us and made a big effort to do so. I happily bought more plants there. Room for improvement at this location.

In desperation, I make my call to Katy Flower Market. I spoke with Darwin, who took all my information and - even though on Valentine's Day they cannot guarantee a time, and I could tell my request was far-fetched and somewhat difficult for them to do on such a busy day - had my roses delivered straight to the restaurant well before their reservation. My boss showed me a picture of the three bouquets, and the flowers were gorgeous - fresh roses that were just barely blooming, so I knew they would last longer than a day or two. I was nervous that, in placing my order so late, that the flowers would be the "leftovers," but these bunches were carefully arranged and quite lovely. In terms of pricing, it is on par with other florists in the area. They have the same styles at comparable prices. No complaints at all with the pricing. I am so impressed (an almost impossible feat with me) with the courtesy of the staff and the extra mile they went to help make my boss' last-minute idea come to fruition. I said that the sign said "$.25/each". She's says "no, the red ones are $.25/each". I had to carry them back and get the red ones, which are also marked $.25. Then she won't let my wife pay for the supposed right ones while I go back and get them. She says "I'm not ringing them up until I make sure that he gets the right ones." Like I'm going to pull off the big brick heist by taking the wrong ones which in fact, aren't the wrong ones. I get it that it's hard to get competent help but maybe a little training is useful. I understand that it's hard to teach someone common sense . Another issue, in the lumber yard, they have all the lumber carts parked in front of the pressure treated 2/4and 2/6. Difficult if not dangerous to have to climb on top of the carts to get one of the more common items of dimensional lumber. Management is really setting the store up for trouble there.

Over the weekend, we met a real lifesaver--a guy named Manny. My parents' anniversary is coming up…read morein three weeks, so I decided to apply for credit to buy them a new mattress. Manny guided us through the entire process, explaining everything from the manufacturer details and the differences in mattress textures and materials to the design, benefits, and product warranty. We knew right away we were dealing with a true professional; he gave us the confidence to go ahead with the purchase. The credit was approved, and the order was placed with an estimated delivery time of just three days. That day, my father was carrying his wallet in an elastic waist pouch, but he was holding it in his hand. When we got home and couldn't find it after three hours of searching, we realized the only other place we'd been was the American Furniture store, so we went back to see if anyone had turned it in at the front desk. Unfortunately, no one had turned anything in, but Manny stepped up to help us again. He checked the security footage, which showed my father walking toward the car with the pouch--confirming that it must be back at the house. After searching more carefully--and now hopeful that it wasn't lost, just misplaced--we finally found it. It was a huge scare because his wallet contained cash, but more importantly, it held his credit cards, driver's license, work permits, immigration IDs, and so on. It would have been a real nightmare if things had ended badly. We are so grateful to God, to Manny, and to American Furniture. They don't just stock excellent products; they have qualified staff who make the whole process easy and achievable. They help secure the financing needed to meet the customer's needs--allowing them to enjoy their purchase right away without waiting to save up the full amount--and, above all, they showed genuine human concern regarding my father's missing pouch and took the initiative to help us track it down. Pretty good prices with a touch of modern sets. Most things in stock. One thing that was a bummer…read morewas their 5% delivery fee and not everything in the showroom floor has assembly. Most things do but things do, but like 10-15% of things with a lot of pieces have a warning "customer asssembly required" warning on office desks and kids stuff. Very annoying. Selection overall is pretty good; but their delivery also doesn't remove or move old furniture like their competitors. Financing I haven't checked out.
