We recently adopted a new puppy (Nala) to keep our 3 year old Golden doodle (Augie) company…read more Although the two dogs are siblings from different litters, they didn't immediately take to being together. Unlike Augie, who was always sweet and extremely mellow even as a puppy, Nala bit us in the face, barked, destroyed things in our home and terrorized Augie to the extent that he would run away from her. We weren't sure we could keep her because she was so badly behaved and seemed untrainable. In the span of 3 weeks, David transformed Nala from a challenging puppy into a dream puppy. She obeys all the commands, walks off leash in our wooded neighborhood, sleeps hours later than when she left and most importantly she is able to play well with Augie who now seeks her out and willingly allows her even to sleep in his own bed. David sent dozens of videos so we could watch her while she was in training and learn the language she was learning from David. He kept in contact and was even able to drop her off and meet our other dog for a walk with Nala. Without Massachusetts Dog Training, we would likely have given our wonderful puppy away and never realized what a gem we had. David helped to uncover Nala's true potential and helped us to realize how smart, sweet and special she is. We will be forever grateful for his wisdom, expertise and love for our Nala.

On the very first day with David, he was already playing calmly with other dogs, something I never thought I'd see. David kept me updated every step of the way, sending daily videos that showed my dog's progress, which gave me so much peace of mind. When he came home, he could finally walk on a leash without pulling (a major win for a husky owner!) and he no longer jumps on guests the second they walk in the door. Now, he greets people calmly and listens better than ever. It honestly feels like I have a brand new dog. He is happier, more obedient, and much more social. I'm beyond grateful for David's help and would absolutely recommend him to anyone looking for a professional, compassionate, and highly effective dog trainer. He truly works wonders!

New England Falconry - Russ with the 11 year old Harris' Hawk!

New England Falconry

Informative Compelling…read moreIntimate My experience with New England Falconry was a surprise gift, and it was pleasant and fulfilling all around. Chris was an excellent educator and guide, while the terrain we covered was pretty and appropriate for the falcons' hunt. I was part of a small group of just six people who joined to learn more about Harris' hawks and a number of other birds used for falconry, as well as a broad array of background on the activity itself, dating back 4000 years. I enjoyed the experience of having one of the hawks alight on my (safely-gloved) hand, as well as the hike and hunt experience. My particular outing saw the lives of no furry woodland creatures lost, and so it was more purely about the stalking efforts of the birds, seeing them in action, observing their cues and habits, and generally enjoying their majesty - which is all I really wanted anyway. If you've ever thought about falconry experiences before, this is an excellent shop to use. And if you've never thought about it before, I'd urge you to reconsider! Highly recommended.

One fine morning I was scrolling through Facebook, skimming snapshots of babies and tacos, when my…read morefriend Russ snapped into view, a bird of prey on his arm and a huge grin on his face. I naturally had to text him: WTF? He explained that he'd snagged a Groupon to NEF with his girlfriend and that it was, in fact, totally rad. I investigated the website and resolved that I would be the next on the old newsfeed to sport a hawk... then five months passed. Fortuitously, I was finally able to find a friend who would (1) humor my request for a roadtrip [the falconing grounds are 1h 45m from the city], and (2) refrain from flinching at the price [$130 pp for an extended intro session]. One Spotify playlist titled "Falconing" later, we were off. We pulled into a driveway with a ramshackle barn and a few Harris Hawks hanging around on perches. Chris introduced himself and launched into a lengthy treatise on their mating habits, pecking order, hunting proclivities and adaptive skills. He let us pepper him with questions, and it was really cool to hear someone so knowledgeable talk about his favorite topic. Then we walked into an extremely chilly, foggy field (read: the Scotland scenes in Skyfall) and Chris showed us how to get a one and a half pound hawk to land on us from neighboring trees. We also strolled around for a bit, and our bird scouted ahead of us. It was, in fact, totally rad. I snapped copious photos up until feeding time (read: dead mice), then we returned to the driveway to put the birds back where they came from. I would heartily recommend this adventure to anyone who likes doing Cool Stuff (see also: trapeze class, dog sledding, zorbing), or anyone who wants to buy the coolest gift ever for someone awesome.

If I didn't shout to stop and let her go... he would have broken her leg. He looked up and laughed saying "oh is this your dog" she was visibly shaken and in pain. We left immediately- the fee was waved for the hack job they did, but more than that- the physical pain and trauma they did to my dog. We contacted the veterinarian who stated she was very fortunate I walked in and they monitored her for damage. She was sore and had a limp for 2 days following our trip for a simple nail trim and grind. We called and spoke to the district manager who initially laughed at my boyfriend for being upset and then later apologized for doing so. They stated they would review the video- and get back. They never did. There is nothing this company can do for our family- we just wanted the acknowledgment that this occurred and apology, along with a promise that this won't happen to anyone else. This company cannot do that... each day, they put dogs in harms way; it's disgusting.

Joyful Paws Service Dogs - Daisy

Joyful Paws Service Dogs

Kasey Nash, Joyful Paws Review I'm writing this review…read morefor Kasey Nash, Joyful Paws, because she is a superb trainer and I'm very grateful that she trained our dog Daisy to become a service dog. Daisy is a mini labradoodle and was 2 1/2 when she began training with Kasey. Previously she had had two intermediate classes at the K-9 Connecticut Education Center. To summarize, in our first session Kasey explained in detail what would be involved, and stressed the importance of my involvement. Daisy had 20 lessons spread out over 6 months. Lessons took place in Kasey's very well equipped basement, Home Goods, Target, Petco, and Cabela Sports. Kasey sent detailed notes after each lesson on what and how to practice, and how to take commands to new levels. Daisy bonded with Kasey the first day, and became very excited at even the mention of "Kasey". After a 5 week evaluation period she received her "Service Puppy in Training Vest" (a proud day). Approximately five months later, Daisy did a fantastic job on her service dog test which lasted more than two hours. Daisy's primary task was location assistance and guidance. She learned to guide me through a department store such as Home Goods, stop at curbs outside, and more. To name just a few commands: Left, right, forward, outside, button, here, wait. Kasey's method was to explain a new command, demonstrate it with Daisy, then teach me to perform the task with Daisy. Lots of treats were used! Before the next lesson, Daisy and I practiced the new commands extensively, at least three times a week along with previous commands. To give you a few examples of Kasey's teaching, we spent an hour or so getting on and off the glass elevator at Cabela Sports. Daisy learned elevator etiquette and got over fear of accelerations and abrupt stops. The techniques I learned from Kasey allowed me to build on many commands during our practice between lessons. To name a few, elevator techniques were used to teach escalators. "Outside" was extended to "Back" and "Find the trail" while hiking. For fun, during one lesson, Kasey taught Daisy to push a "door open" assistance button. This took less than half an hour to my amazement. A year later Daisy still remembers this "button" command. Kasey organized a number of field trips with her other dogs in training: Mystic Aquarium and a Scavenger Hunt to name two. Kasey wrote an "Attestation Letter" about Daisy's training which was instrumental in getting service dog approval for Aer Lingus and later for EuroStar (train to UK). I highly recommend Kasey Nash to anyone considering Service Dog training.
