I'm surprised this place has so many good reviews being away from the main town as well as the water. If you want a cheap, decent breakfast then this is a pretty good fit. Many of the locals are here. I don't think there was one person traveling besides myself. There was no wait, and at the same time it wasn't empty. Besides being a little run down, they served good coffee and good eggs. The toast could have been a bit more toasted and the orange juice could have been a bit colder, but when you're hungry it's a good place to stop by. read more

Went in with all of the previous reviews in mind. Didn't know whether to be scared or anticipatory of the service and the locals. We found everyone to be friendly and hospitable. We visited Katie's kitchen today at the recommendation of a local couple while visiting the area. We sat at the bar that is in direct view of the grill. I was extremely concerned with the numerous food and safety violations I witnessed. The woman running the grill was bare handed the entire time and all the prepped food was on the counter unrefrigerated. Over and over again she would reach into the Tupperware container that held the raw bacon and throw it on the grill. I ordered a veggie omelet and she took her raw bacon fingers and reached into each individual veggie bucket to grab the food. The raw hash was also to the right of the grill unrefrigerated and she picked that up as well. She also plated the food herself grasping onto the corner of each plate with dirty hands. If I was a vegetarian I would be mortified at that alone but what was worse was the blatant cross-contamination. If you are looking for a nice dose of e-coli with a side of salmonella be sure to visit! I gave it two stars because the woman taking orders was pleasant. read more

Actually one of the worst brunch experiences ever. First, the atmosphere is depressing and out of date. After sitting down at a booth, our waitress looked over at us multiple times but refused to come to our table for nearly 10 minutes. She then came by, said nothing to us, and threw two menus on the table. There was 6 of us at the table. We ordered drinks that never came until we asked a second time 25 minutes later. I've eaten here a few times over the years. It's always lousy. There just isn't anywhere else to eat breakfast in Wolfeboro. Today, I ordered hash and a grilled English muffin with coffee. The coffee was old, the three tablespoons of hash they gave me were good. The English muffin tasted like they took it raw out of the bag and put it on a steam table to warm it up. Wet, soggy and not the least bit browned. I asked for butter and got a lump of margarine. I gave it 2 stars instead of one because the hash was passable, but I didn't get more than a couple of bites. Next time we are in town we will drive out of town for breakfast because Katie's is always the same -sub-par. Drive to Ossipee if you want breakfast. read more

I was in town for an ERP implementation at a local hospital and I was searching for a place to eat at 5:30am before arriving at the facility. Katie's was the only place I found open so I decided to give it a try. I sat down at the counter and the lady behind the counter offered me coffee. She poured me a cup and asked, "want some breakfast?" I said yes...and she proceeded to make me breakfast. Mind you...I didn't tell her what I wanted...she just whipped up some fried eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast, sat it down in front of me and said "enjoy."It was an odd experience that some folks might have deemed "inappropriate," but I just rolled with it and it turned out to be the best breakfast I had ever had. I ended up going back every morning for the rest of my trip (though every other morning...I WAS asked what I wanted...not sure why day 1 went down the way it did but it left an impression I'll never forget). As long as you're ok with being an outsider amongst dozens of "regulars" (as I noticed everyone but me was on a first-name basis), then I highly recommend. By the end of the week, I was even able to join in with the regs on the morning topics of conversation. It was a wonderful experience with salt of the earth people. They only take cash...so keep that in mind. Well...at least they did 3 years ago. My husband and I love Katie's Kitchen! It is located next to the liquor store and is an easy walk from the docks if you go by the old train station and take the walking path until you see the ball fields, then take that right, which will lead you to the paring lot behind Harvest Market. Katie's is in th plaza across the street. Katie's offers great food for little money. Very dineresque with a friendly feel. Katie, owner/waitress is welcoming and makes you feel like part of the family. Need more coffee while she's busy? The locals get up and grab the pot, filling neighbor's cups along the way. We've been for many breakfasts and have taken Katie's homemade macaroni and cheese to go for later. YUM! The breakfast potatioes have been consistantly delish, which helps to make this a winner in our book. Along with the normal bread offerings, for a very nominal fee you can get homemade bread! Mmmm. Really good food, great atmosphere. Everybody's a friend, and everybody gets equal part praise and hilarious mockery (especially if you actually request a menu). When it gets really busy, the regulars take turns bussing the tables and filling everyone's coffee, as well as getting extra seating. It seems really strange at first, because it's a restaurant, but the feel of the place is like a family Thanksgiving, where everyone pitches in. And, they tip the waitress well! This is a local joint...that's why we loved it! Breakfast was good and inexpensive. Portions are average but well in line with the price. We will be eating breakfast here every day we are in town! Based on quality, service, and price we'll even try it for lunch. The owner invited us for yeast-risen cinnamon rolls on Saturday morning, but warned us we should get there early before they're gone. Lunch & Cinnamon Roll Updates Pending... We were unable to make it back for lunch, but the cinnamon rolls were very good at breakfast the next morning. Food was solid. French toast and eggs were the winners. But the real draw was the prices. It was ridiculously inexpensive. Eggs with bacon and pancakes and juice for under 5 dollars. The lunch menu had a grilled cheese for 1.75 and a burger deluxe for like 4.00. Every single customer knew each other which was crazy but kind of nice. The food at Katies is always great. The menu really isn't a menu but kind of just a guideline to what they have. Order what you want, they'll do their best to make it. I never leave without a muffin. My favorite so far has been the pineapple. The server is awesome, she's funny and efficient. Our first time there she made us feel so welcome and after that we have become regulars. It does have a few downsides, the hash I think is out of a can and the hollandaise is instant but the prices cannot be be and the food comes fast. A no fuss breakfast! We did a doubletake when we saw the menu, prices were so low! Service was friendly, the breakfasts were tasty and the portion sizes were generous but not ridiculous. My eggs were perfect, and the kids loved their french toast and pancakes (we can't say that about everywhere we've been to eat in Wolfeboro). Katie herself waited on us, and took a few minutes to speak with us even though the place was packed. I believe we were the only tourists there this particular Sat AM, we ended up at an outside picnic table as the restaurant itself was packed. If you are visiting Wolfeboro, take a few minutes to find this place. No, it's not on the lake with a view to die for, but the prices are dirt cheap, service was good (but don't forget to bring your dishes back to the dishwasher when you're done!), and the food is great. A few friends and I headed to Katie's this past weekend while visiting from out of town. We were looking for breakfast/brunch and we saw that this establishment had really great yelp reviews. Much to our dismay, we had a less than adequate experience. On Saturday, we called around 11 am to see if they had room for 4. We were told yes, so we got ready and arrived around 12:02 pm. At this time we were turned away at the door. Apparently, they stop serving at noon - something that was not mentioned over the call. Also, they do not make any exceptions, even if you are only 1 or 2 minutes late. The woman who turned us away advised us to go next door to "skelleys" for breakfast sandwiches. Inside, we found out "skelleys" was a mere convenience store and it did not look very appetizing. However, we understood that perhaps we should have checked the opening and closing times. The next day we decided to try our luck again at Katie's, this time armed with good knowledge of their closing and opening times. We arrived Sunday morning before 11am and some people were sitting at tables outside. The same woman from Saturday greeted us at the door and she let us know that there was a wait, but "did we want to sit outside?", indicating that by doing so we would be served normally. My friends and I were not picky and told her we were fine sitting outside! We sat down and the woman disappeared for about 10 minutes. We sent one friend in to grab us menus. Finally, the woman came out and asked us what we wanted to order. When we asked for water, the server advised us that if we wanted water, we should go next door to skelleys and buy some bottled water because the glasses of tap water were not steady on the outdoor tables. We thought this was very strange and went back and forth with her a bit on why we didn't want to do this. Why would we want to purchase water bottles next door when we were at a restaurant? Also, why would they have tables and glasses that made for an unsteady experience? We asked again for tap water, assuring the server we would hold on to our glasses. She did not like our response and as we continued to order, the server was giving us a lot of attitude. She kept telling us that they don't like to sit people outside and that her aggressive, rude behavior was just part of her personality and she was not going to change. She also kept mentioning that the service outside was terrible. We told her that we did not need to sit outside, and we were happy to move inside if that would be easier (very unclear why she would sit us outside in the first place). Eventually, a table opened up and we moved inside. While we waited, I found a hair in my water glass. Inside, we quickly got served. Our server seemed much more comfortable serving us inside and even thought it was appropriate to ask if one of us was hungover because we must have looked a bit angry. I wonder why we were upset! When our food was delivered, one order was wrong. We watched the server and the cook use their bare hands to remove sausage and replace it with bacon. Some of the eggs were undercooked. Overall, we were very underwhelmed and will not be returning to Katie's. read more

One local table got food before we even got menus. The juices we ordered were never delivered and were instead just taken off our bill. The waitress pointed out that she removed them from our bill since we never got them. Unfortunately, we did not see her again after taking our order until she brought over the check. The place was not what I would characterize as being crowded, but it seemed as though the waitress could not be bothered with us. Would consider going back though because the food was really good. My wife and I discovered Katie's Kitchen today. When we got the menu, I thought they accidentally gave us a souvenir copy of a 1970's menu, because the prices were so low. Katie, herself, was our waitress. It is a wonderfully intimate room and was filled with "regulars" who eat there almost daily.
