If I could give KatieBug Therapy a million stars I would. They have been absolutely phenomenal with my children. I have 7 year old twin boys with sensory processing disorder and texture aversion, which lead to extremely picky eating. Actually, when we started with Miss Michelle and Miss Marie 1 1/2 years ago, one of my boys only had 3 foods that he ate and the other maybe 15. We tried many things to get them to eat different foods, but nothing worked. When they started gagging just from the smell of cooking and from the sight of applesauce, I realized it was a much bigger problem that was going to require professional help. It turns out, along with the SPD and texture aversion, they both have reflux which was diagnosed by Miss Marie and Miss Michelle, then substantiated by an ENT referral and scope. Once they were on Prevacid for about a month, things started to change. With the food chaining techniques, homework, and games, they now have a completely different diet. Last night we had baked chicken, spinach salad, and rice for dinner - and that is what they ate. We can go out to restaurants without bringing their food with us. It has been a truly life changing experience. We have been so happy with KatieBug and would recommend them to anyone needing a SLP, especially kids with feeding issues and picky eating. My boys never cried or were upset with the therapy - they actually looked forward to it and seeing Miss Michelle. Came here to assess my daughters potential tongue/lip tie on a referral from my lactation consultant. Office was super thorough in scheduling my appointment and contacting my insurance and getting a medical history. Therapist was very knowledgeable and provided exercises for baby and also referrals for pediatrics dentists. Our case was mild and we didn't need a continued care plan. Love the therapists Hate such disregard for HIPPA Therapists are constantly talking with parents about clients in the waiting room. In response to the reply I received. I, in fact, did not sign anything saying it was acceptable to discuss my children's progress in the waiting room. Further, I have only once seen a therapist offer to use the private room for discussing progress. read more

The therapy was excellent. The practice is managed poorly in my opinion. There were issues with claims being paid. I do not feel it was handled properly. The billing person gets defensive and asked if she should anticipate a call from me with the insurance company to confront them about petty drama. I will never recommend this facility. read more

"The sun did not shine, it was too wet to play. So we sat in the house all that cold cold wet day." You may know that as the beginning of 'The Cat in the Hat' by Dr. Suess. But for me? Hearing my 3 year old recite that nearly completely legibly to me, brings tears to my eyes and joy to my heart. At 1yr old, my son was saying "thank you," his speech and babbling above average for his age. But by age 2, almost all talking stopped. What replaced his speech was whines, groans and grunting. Along with temper tantrums that aren't uncommon among kids that age. However, they were greatly exacerbated by his frustration at being unable to advocate for himself or even ask for the simplest things. I'd been in close contact with our family doctor about my worries. She recommended Katie Bug Therapy. Within a few days of contacting the office, my son had an appointment for an evaluation. I was able to sit in on the evaluation as well as join in to demonstrate how my son reacts at home. I was nervous, obviously. I'm not afraid to admit that I was SO SO worried that his diminished speech was all my fault. But she put both of us at ease right away. She asked what toys he preferred at home and used those type of toys to ensure his comfort and stimulation. It was all fun and easy going. But it was amazing what she was able to glean just from 30 minutes of play. She spoke with me afterwards and answered all my millions of questions and gave a few recommendations for home care. What I really found useful was the report that she typed later on. Right there in writing, all the things I'd noticed and a possible treatment plan. My son has a speech delay, but there was a plan, there was help, and I wasn't alone. My son has been working weekly with Ms. Liz for almost a year now. At first I'd accompany him into his sessions. His time would include play, gentle encouragement, sometimes music or arts and crafts, and always a few easy pointers for things to do at home to further his progress each week. Soon enough my son would just see the building that Katie Bug is in and get very excited. He obviously loved playing and learning with Ms. Liz and started going into the sessions on his own. I'd wait in the ultra comfy waiting room, my daughter would play at the kids table or watch channel 11 on the television while we waited. And still each week Liz and I'd talk about his progress and strategize to keep him improving. She writes tips on a sheet for me to use each week. Around April, Liz recommended my son get evaluated by their Occupational Therapist Kayla. Liz had noticed the way my sons movements were very loose, as if he's not very aware of his body and has low muscle strength. Now my son sees Kayla each week as well. They play, work on completing small tasks from start to finish, and do arts and crafts. All with the aim of building strength, coordination, and ability to follow steps. Liz and Kayla also compare notes and have even been able to co-treat him in order to best understand his needs. Because of Liz and Kayla, as well as Marie, my son has blossomed. His speech has improved so much and continues to grow each day. His behavior has turned around so amazingly, although he still has plenty of moments just like any 3 year old, but they are much shorter and more manageable. Because of the support and encouragement they give, I've learned so much as well, which has helped me as a parent. Less stress and more flexibility has helped our entire family. Along with Katie Bug, a great park district, and an amazing early childhood intervention program within our school district, our family doctor believes that my son may catch up to his peers in no time. It really does take a village to raise a child. I honestly can't ask for better support from Katie Bug. All I can say is thank you. read more

My son went to Katie Bug throughout most of 2018 for OT and Speech/Feeding. He loves Miss Anne his awesome OT. He hates feeding yet still made progress with SLP, Ashley. Anne and Ashley worked together to get him to cooperate during Speech with some preferred OT play. We unfortunately stopped going briefly while we sorted through massive insurance issues/lack of coverage with UHC. I finally got approval to take him back to Katie Bug. I talked to Amanda about our new situation with our insurance which would require KB to bill him out via paper vs their new electronic system based on his "approval". She talked to Marie and they agreed to accommodate us and get him worked around his school schedule. We have been in therapy for many years and have had numerous therapists. I'm a firm believer in the "relationship" the kids build with them. There's a different level of trust there. For our child, it's the OT, Anne. He loves her and feels connected even though she pushes him. It's that relationship that helps us push him forward. She's our guide on how to navigate his life as it changes. It's providers like the ones at KB that help impact change. We get homework from the therapists on what to do at home. Everything is trial and error. If parents are willing to follow through on suggestions, you will find different tools to help manage your home life. We've been lucky to have worked with some wonderful therapists throughout the years. We are forever thankful. read more

KatieBug has been a lifeline for our little boy and for our entire family. The staff and therapists have shown their love and support in so many ways; through our hardest times financially and medically speaking, we've always received the kindest words, empathetic ears and constant encouragement. Therapists Kayla, Jenny and Katie are incredible human beings that press on and continue loving on our son through the mood swings, medication changes, and exhaustion from seizures. Because our insurance is a little complicated, we've sometimes dealt with wrongful denials in converage but Marie and Amanda worked persistently to advocate for us and our little boy continued therapy through it all. I have had a wonderful experience here. They are very knowledgable and friendly!!! They are so sweet and helpful. They want to help your children, and they want to help you help them as well. They work with you, as a team, and make you feel comfortable. Never be afraid to get your child the help they need!!!
