She was super sweet & gave me her availabilities. The first time I met her I was anxious & nervous not knowing what to expect. I had lost a significant amount of weight since i had last tried on my dress (2 dress sizes) so i was freaking out. Kathy definitely knew how to calm me down and reassured me that everything would work out perfectly. Kathy consistently does an excellent job. She is very straightforward about what is needed and when she has time. Sometimes she doesn't have time, and she will tell you straight up--but that's the way it is when you are pretty much at the top of the skill level in your field. You don't have to crawl and beg for customers because your track record and experience speak for themselves. Over the years Kathy has done work for us on clothing, caps, and quilts. Her work is consistently solid and reasonably priced. The best way to deal with her is to just tell her what you want and trust her to give you good value, because I have seen that she has minimal patience for "customer-is-always-right" types who know nothing about sewing and tend to devalue her artisanship. I respect this in her as a person as I respect her craft. I also understand this mentality because I share it in my own entrepreneurship. She won't put up with baloney; she will do a great job for a fair price, and will be very clear about those jobs that are labor-intensive. I have gotten a few dresses altered by Kathy and was very happy with the work. She told me to bring back any items in the future and she'd be happy to work on them. I got two new dresses one of which I'd wear to a dinner in a month. I left a message that I wanted them altered and she called me this morning. She made me explain twice what I wanted, and then told me she had no time for me. I appreciate the call explaining that she had no time but why did I have to explain TWO times what I wanted, for her then to tell me "no I can't work on them." Also they were really simple jobs, just taking in dresses under the armpits and the deadline was over a month away!!!! Previously I had brought in four dresses, this would have made it 6. I always paid my bill, didn't try to haggle the price and was on time to all my appointments. I feel like I was a good customer, and yet it felt like I was dropped for something other than lack of appointment slots. read more

Kathy was personable and did a beautiful job on my daughter's wedding dress on fairly short notice. We had only a couple months to plan a wedding, and when my daughter found her dress, everyone I called said it was impossible to have it done in time. Thankfully, Kathy agreed, and it her little shop was so comfortable and relaxing. She put us right at ease. The only hiccup was when I came to pick it up after the final alteration, she had forgotten to finish it. She was very apologetic and I wasn't upset- we live close and we still had time. She had it completely finished a few days later and it was beautiful. Went here to have my daughters prom dress altered. Easily made an appt by calling. Area can be a little tight driving in due to other cars parked on the street. Luckily, there is a designated parking space in front of her business woohoo! It is on the left when you enter the street. Kathy was very kind and professional. She did not rush us and took her time pinning the dress. Her work is impressive and my daughter loved her dress. She could finally walk around in it. Her dress had sheer and sequin that needed to be cut so I thought cost would be high. Cost was actually very reasonable. I normally only rate food but I had to rave about Kathy's Custom! I had gone to other alternation shop to fix my dress because I need a couple more inches added to the waist band and the lady told me there's nothing she could do, it was depressing because I love my dress. Kathy was out of the office for a few days and promptly returned my phone call and I had an appointment within the next few days. I am a procrastinator, I didn't attempt to go get my dress altered until two weeks before my event. She took a look at it and told me it wouldn't be a problem and she was able to complete it in less than a week. The result, it looks amazing! You can't tell it was altered and a lot of work was put into it yet the price is still affordable. I will definitely come back to her for all my alternation needs and highly recommend her. read more

Oh my goodness, Kathy is fantastic! Recently took a bridesmaid dress in to see what options I had aside from the $90 backless strapless bra. Kathy put cups in it, gave a little support and filled out the look perfectly. It only took her 3 days and it was very affordable ($15). The uncomfortable backless strapless bra is getting returned. Most importantly- I came with my two young daughters and they adore Kathy. She was so sweet with them, she has some great books and puzzles she shared with them. My husband brought in his riding pants that needed a new zipper. This should have been a 30 minutes job. She told him it would be ready in 2 weeks. It's been a month and it's still not done. Then on top of that she just left a message telling him she was going on vacation and didn't offer to give them back. So when he called to see if he could just pick them up, so he could take them else where, she had already gone on vacation. He's gotten nothing and no returned calls and it's been 6 weeks. He even went there to see if he could get them and she was closed, no work times posted. She still has his pants and now all we want is them back! Better Business Bureau will be my next action for complaint on her if we don't get them back by this coming week. To me this is extremely bad service and business! read more

I give Kathy a straight 5 star- I walked in with my prom dress (Terani/fully beaded/tulle) looking for a 3" surged hem. I tried three other places and was turned down because of the complexity of the lining. Kathy knew exactly what to do and she fitted me and hemmed it to a perfect length just in time for prom on Saturday- amazing skill and quality! Also the biggest sweetheart.
