This is one of those times where I felt like my fellow Yelpers led me astray. I needed a bridesmaid dress hemmed, and she had great reviews here so I thought I'd give her a try. When I reached out, she said that hemming started at $39 and she could do it in the timeframe needed, so I gave it a shot. I didn't mind that her studio was in her garage, but I did think that it felt a little more exposed than I would have liked. The changing area is just a curtain in a corner, and if you walked by it, you would definitely be able to see in. It was also pretty warm in there, although she was running a portable A/C unit. She kept trying to upsell me on taking out the bust on my dress, although I felt it fit fine. We didn't have the easiest time communicating, and she kept insisting - I found it hard to articulate that I was fine with the way it was. When we got to the end, I was GOBSMACKED to hear that she wanted to charge me over $170 to alter the dress, which was more than the dress itself was. Due to time constraints I wasn't able to source another place, so I just had to deal with it. She also said I needed to pay a deposit, which we had never discussed prior to that. I asked her how much and she said, "How much do you have?" I gave her what I had and she gave me a ticket receipt reflecting balance owed. Never once did she mention that she was a cash-only business until that moment. It all felt very shady to me. The thing I had the biggest issue with was that she tried to sell me supplements at the end of our transaction. Everything was in a different language so I didn't really know what it was, but I felt uncomfortable with how pushy she became. When I came to pick up the dress, she hadn't steamed it or wrapped it up, even though I had an appointment. The work itself was done well enough, but it wasn't so great that it made up for the hassle of everything else. There are so many other alteration places in the area with more fair and transparent pricing. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. read more

I searched for an alteration shop this place came up. so I navigated to the adres not knowing it is an in home based business. Called to see if the owner will take me in ( she says yes) as a I parked the lady wave at me and goes inside the house. I take my dress out of my car and as soon as I am about to enter this man which I assume is the husband says " you should have a made an appointment. You know. She just arrived 5 minutes ago.You shouldn't t be here" I said I am sorry. I can leave now. The man said up to you and repeated you should not be here Is a Sunday. I Walked away. let me say when you google this business it says is open on Sundays and does not say in home based or appointment only. If you open a business take the take time to make this clear for people searching for your service so people don't bother you or your husband. I could not recommend Wendy more for your bridal or evening gown needs. I don't know how much alterations normally cost for intricate dresses. However, I absolutely felt her quote was accurate for the amount her amount of work and the difficulty of the dress. It was a significant expense, but again the alterations were spot on and worth it. Altered the choker neckline and sleeveless fit (arm holes were gapping a bit) on a full length dress for me that I needed in three weeks. You would have noticed if it wasn't altered perfectly even, since the pattern was a mirrored print on both sides of the dress, and she kept it aligned! BRIDES BEWARE. - The shop is tiny, and the "dressing room" is just a corner behind a curtain in the lobby. That means she does all the pinning out in the open, so she doesn't make necessary adjustments since her husband is present and a customer could walk in at any time. To make matters worse, the mirrors are across the room from each other, so you can't get a good view of her work. I was going just on how the dress felt on me. - Wendy is nice enough. But her poor english meant we didn't communicate well--or rather, she didn't understand me (pretended not to?). I repeatedly asked her to adjust the bodice of my dress, shorten the sleeves, and take in the waist and hips--all based on how ill-fitting the dress felt on me. Wendy responded by batting my hands away and insisting that my dress already fit me on top (it didn't). But she did so with a smile and plenty of fawning. - She did the work poorly or not at all. My wedding dress is basically two dresses layered on top of each other (a silk slip with a lace overlay). Wendy only altered the top lace layer, so not only does the dress not actually fit, it lays awkwardly because there's way too much fabric underneath. I could hardly tell a difference in fit from the first to the third fitting, aside from the hem. She was supposed to add a bustle, but it was uneven. It was so bad I had a moment where I thought about buying another dress. After the second fitting I didn't trust her to finish it correctly, so I took my dress and ran! - Pricing is exorbitant. And like another reviewer, she didn't itemize her work. So I ended up paying her TWICE what another competent seamstress is charging me to fix her work/do the work that she never actually did--fitting the bodice, fixing the bustle, and shortening the sleeves. The icing on the cake is that because adjusting the bodice actually shortens the dress, Wendy may have ruined my dress by hemming it first. read more

2 big complaints here - pricing is high and sketchy business practices. I think she profiles you and tries to charge more if she thinks you'll be a sucker and pay the high prices. I brought in a $65 dress to get hemmed shorter. She had me fill out a ticket with my info and admired my engagement ring while I was doing it. I noticed that there was no price listed on the ticket when I filled in my info. When I got home, I noticed that she had put the cost of hemming at $29!! This was a Saturday afternoon and she said she'd turn it around in 2 weeks. I called Sunday and left a message (since they're closed) requesting the hemming not to be completed since I was unhappy with the price. She called me back later in the evening and told me she had already completed the dress (what?? I dropped off the dress an hour before you were closing and you told me 2 weeks!). She told me she'd discount it to $24...I said fine since she essentially trapped me when she said she completed it already. I pick up the dress a week later. She tells me cash only because of the "discounted rate". She did not mention this on the phone at all. I took my dress and ran. I'm never coming back here again. DZ Alterations downtown has much better and consistent pricing. read more
