As a geologist, I adore authentic rock and gem shops owned and operated by true mineral enthusiasts. Kathy's Krystals is just such a place. We stopped in for the first time today and viewed an impressive selection of beautiful, unique pieces. They carry notably high quality specimens of labradorite, opal, malachite, pyrite, tourmaline, olivine, quartz, calcite, and more. The minerals we viewed ranged in price from $5 to $700+, and we were not at all pressured to buy (which I am super-sensitive about). Like others who've left reviews, we didn't realize shopping is by appointment until we arrived and discovered this shop is in a lovely residential neighborhood. We called the phone number listed on Yelp, and the proprieter opened up for us right away. He treated us like old friends, and I would love to go back and shop there again. My husband Kasey found Kathi's Krystal for me and I was not disappointed! Jack was so helpful. He knew where almost all his stones came from which is amazing. The stones seems endless here and there's stones of all sizes so if you like ones you can carry easily or you like a gigantic piece for decoration they more then likely have you covered! I could have spent hours in there touching everything stone and finding the perfect ones for my collection. So many jumped out at me there's only one that I was able to hold and see that I didn't get and I literally dreamed about. As we left Colorado this morning I thought to myself I really am not going to be happy until I get one and bam you guys have a website and ship as well. That makes me really happy because I just know I didn't get to see everything because my husband and kiddos were in the car. We showed up without an appointment, not realizing the rock and crystal collection was in a residential neighborhood. We almost turned away, but I'm so glad we didn't. After a quick chat with Jack on the phone, he came outside and led us into his home. We were blown away by an amazing collection of high quality stones and crystals. Personally, I'm drawn to the physical properties and geographic facts surrounding stones rather than the spiritual connection many have with crystals. Jack is a true collector, and I found it refreshing to hear what was important to me about the stones, instead of hypothetical healing properties. Jack was extremely friendly and personable. He showed us his personal collection, with some of his earliest crystals that he purchased at the age of 10. I would highly recommend visiting their shop, and we will definitely be back. read more

I've been collecting for around five years and I don't think I'll ever stop saying that Kathi's Krystals is the best source when it comes to crystals. I only got to visit Jack and Kathi once since I'm from the Midwest, but they gave me a very memorable and positive experience. My friend and I were looking for a shop while in Boulder for a day on vacation. We called the number online since we were directed by gps to a home and were confused. Jack answered and was luckily available then to allow us to come in. He was delighted that wanted to come see his collection. We were warmly invited into their home to browse the rocks for sale, which was so kind to me. The whole idea was. Jack felt like a friend to us, sharing incredible stories and rock knowledge I've never heard before. He was very helpful in us finding what we were looking for and more. Jack and Kathi seemed very passionate about crystals and I believe that's what every "shop" needs. I also know I'd never been around such genuine specimens until I came here. I purchased a rutile quartz and a ruby in fuchsite. I wanted a moonstone but it was more expensive than I what wanted to spend, so Jack suggested he'd hold it for me thinking I could come back and get it later. He called me recently asking if I still wanted the moonstone after all of this time. I had been thinking of contacting him but just hadn't gotten around to it and was very grateful that he reached out at a good time. After I reminded him I did not live in Boulder, he said he'd ship it out instead and sent me an invoice. I received my package in less than a week from that. I will be back whenever I get to Boulder next. If you're looking for a unique and reliable crystal shop, come check them out. You might find exactly what you're looking for. We loved our experience with Jack and his lovely (and super talented) dog Okie. Jack's knowledge and passion for stones/rocks was super impressive and incredibly helpful. I learned so much just from chatting with him. I loved that he left out all of the metaphysical nonsense and just focused on the stones themselves and on the needs of his customers. My partner and I walked in and told him our budget and that we wanted some unique pieces and he spent over an hour with us, discussing various options, illuminating pieces under black light (so magical), telling stories and genuinely connecting with us, etc. This was such an intimate, personal experience of rock-buying. Jack is such a kind-hearted human and you'll love your experience with him and will be sure to find a wonderful treasure because his selection is incredible.
