At the beginning of June my father and I came to Millinocket for a celebration of life for a dear cousin who had passed over the winter. My paternal grandmother is from Millinocket and I have scores and scores of cousins who call Millinocket home. And I have visited many times. Katahdin Inn and Suites is always my preferred stay whenever in Millinocket. This time was no exception. It had been several years since my last stay so this time around it was easy to see the place had recently had some cosmetic updates. While still dated bathrooms, the room was clean, and the beds suitable. We shared a room with two queen beds for cost savings. The room was $150/ night with all the taxes and fees. I had booked through Expedia. For the cost the room was well appointed, with a small refrigerator and microwave. It was on first floor and easily accessible from a side door. The front desk staff was very helpful with recommendations for dining. Having been to the area numerous times, and stayed in other nearby hotels, I can say Katahdin Inn is the best in town, and it is pet friendly. read more

This property is suffering from TMS. (Tired Motel Syndrome.) Its owners should not give up, but it will take a lot more work to restore the place. The exterior looks like a Soviet-era prison. The parking lot and driveway could be on the road to Murmansk. (I've been to places with worse winters. Climate is no excuse.) The lobby is weird. Exercise machines next to the easy chairs and caution tape around the pool. The hallways are redolent with the odor of sewage spills, the security lock on the door is broken and the wall around the air conditioner is rotting... All signs of lack of attention to detail. On the plus side: Clean and new linens and towels. Adequate house keeping IN the room. And When the only elevator broke, the staff made sure to get it fixed quickly. I recently had an unfortunate experience at Katahdin Inn & Suites that left me thoroughly dissatisfied. Despite booking a room for a night for after a day of hiking, my plans were complicated by a power outage. Not only did the hotel fail to provide any compensation or alternate arrangements, but they also refused to refund the room charges. The lack of electricity severely impacted the quality of my stay. Without power, basic amenities such as air conditioning, lighting, and Wi-Fi were rendered useless, leaving guests in uncomfortable conditions. Additionally, the hotel's emergency backup systems appeared to be minimally functional, leaving us in complete darkness and without access to any services. We were told power would be restored within the hour and given we had just spent the day hiking in the woods, we decided to take a shower while we waited for the power to return. About an hour later we were informed that there was now no timeline on when power would be back. At this point we opted to leave (it had been less than 2 hours since checking in) and the manager at the desk told me to call the next day when power had returned to discuss how to proceed. What truly disappointed me, however, was the hotel's lack of empathy and refusal to address the situation when I called. Despite reaching out to the management and expressing my concerns, they dismissively disregarded my complaints and refused to provide any form of reimbursement or compensation for the inconvenience caused, stating that since the room was "used" we would be charged the full amount. I strongly advise against staying at this hotel until they rectify their customer service practices and demonstrate a genuine commitment to guest satisfaction. There are other equivalent accommodations available in the area that prioritize the well-being of their guests and provide the expected level of service. read more

Generally a pretty nice place and priced well! YAY: - friendly service, easy check in, plenty of parking - big pool, nice hot tub, fun relaxation space - poolside rooms! We had one and it was $120/night! It was GREAT - coffeemaker in the room, fridge in the room - giant bed, several TV channels, nice shower - right next to the Hannaford, gas station, all necessary amenities in Millinocket - a lovely and close place to stay before/during/after a Katahdin hike (aptly named LOL) EH.....: - pool area is right in the welcome area so it's a little awkward when you're half naked and new hotel patrons are walking in fully clothed staring at you - no key drop system - we left the hotel at 4AM to get to the Katahdin trailhead, and after being the obnoxious guests that called the desk after hours, we were told to just leave the key there.. I guess I should've asked while checking in. So sorry to the employee I woke up!! -they do a $200 hold on your credit card when you check in to ensure that if you damage your room they have funds to repair it. It's sort of stressful to sign off on several amounts though.... - it's a little outdated (hallways, ceiling tiles, etc) but honestly for the price you can't beat it. I will definitely come back here when I'm up in the Baxter State Park area. It's a bang for your buck. read more

Not the most luxurious of places... but not the least either! Knowing my friend and I were going to want a hot shower and a comfortable bed to sleep in following a 12-hour trek on Baxter State Park's Mount Katahdin, we opted for a reasonably-priced double bed room at the Katahdin Inn and Suites. I think you could best describe our finding this place as accidentally stumbling upon it. It certainly doesn't have the appearance of a hotel from the outside. Looking like an office building of sorts, we haphazardly parked the car and found a sign labelled "LOBBY" in big block letters indicating where we should enter. The lobby is hard to describe... with extraordinarily high ceilings, this area is as large as a gymnasium and houses not only the front desk but a fireplace in one corner with seating, a pool, jacuzzi, gazebo, pool tables, arcade games, vending machines, and the like. They offer rooms that open up right to the pool area, others with jacuzzis, etc. My double room offered a table with chairs, small refrigerator, old tube television, and coffee maker. While I was tempted to play "name that stain" with the carpet and wall paper, I was pleasantly surprised by the remaining cleanliness of the things that really counted in my mind.... the bed, sheets, and bathroom. In the morning I was able to partake in their complimentary breakfast. Too tired to make a Belgian waffle, I enjoyed a bowl of Raisin Bran with milk. Though the options weren't plentiful, the staples were available... pastries, juices, breads. It was enough to get me going and ready for the ride home. I would certainly consider staying here again in the future... There was nothing particularly unique about this location, but it served its intended purpose. read more

Nice family owned hotel in small town of millinocket. This is a nice place to stay before a hike in Mt. Katahdin. I have listed some of observations below-: Location (4/5) - This is the nearest hotel to stay if you are planning to hike in baxter state park. It has a gas station and a dunkin donuts open 24/7 right opposite to it which makes it a great spot to stay. However it is difficult to find this hotel as it is not directly visible from the main highway. Rooms (5/5) - Rooms are big and clean. Bed is very comfortable and their blankets are great. Lighting and furnishing is also nice. Their bathrooms are very clean and bathtub is very big and super clean. They have a fridge and microwave too, making it a sweet deal for a fair price. Staff (4/5) - Their staff at the front desk is very nice and helpful. I reached there at late night and was able to check in to my room without any issues. The owners are very friendly and gave alot of suggestions regarding the nearby places to visit. Amhenities and Breakfast (3/5) - They have a very large indoor swimming pool and nice hot tub, which I never used but it looked pretty good to me. Unfortunately they do not have a fitness center, but I was never in a mood to use it anyway, especially after the long hike. One complaint which I had during my stay was their breakfast which was not upto the mark. Main thing was that they did not have any eggs which I was surprised to find out. The cereals they provide were also not good. They should definitely work on the standard of their breakfast. read more

I hate to be that person, but if I could give zero stars I absolutely would. Worst "hotel" I've ever experienced in my life. We stayed here because it was cheaper than other places (and this is the definition of you get what you pay for) as well as being the only place that popped up on Google. We were excited about the pool, jacuzzi and "arcade" that was mentioned on the website, but understand that those facilities were not available due to Covid. However, the pictures on the website make it appear that there is a central courtyard with the pool and other facilities. Nope, they are all located directly in the front "lobby". You actually have to go PAST the pool to even get to the front desk. The rooms fit up to 4 people, but we were charged $60 for the 2 "extra" guests, even though there were 4 of us total staying in the room. Two of us checked in, and when all 4 of us walked into our room, the front desk (nobody was there when we walked by) called us IMMEDIATELY to confirm that we had 2 "additional" people. Which means they were watching us like hawks on the security cameras. Literally felt and looked like you were in a prison, being watched 24/7. When we asked if we could have a friend join us (the only ACTUAL guest for the night) they stated no, because of fire marshal codes. We saw literally no other guests the entire time we were there (and only one other car in the parking lot the entire time which I'm guessing was either the owners or an employee since it was the same car all the time) so I highly doubt this, and that they just wanted to make money by making us book an extra room. We had to drive our friend back home and luckily she lives locally to the hotel. That was all on the day we checked in, Saturday. Let's move on to our first night here. Absolutely AWFUL. None of the 4 of us got more than a couple hours of sleep because the beds were so uncomfortable. Some of us have been homeless and been to prison, and BOTH of those options were more comfortable than these beds. Two of us went to family dollar Sunday morning and spent $40 each on extra pillows, a mattress pad, and extra blankets. I'm sure we could've asked for these amenities but based on the products they already had, I wasn't optimistic and I'm sure we would've been charged for extras. If I was paying to use extra bedding I wanted to be able to take it home with me, not to mention their blankets were paper thin and pillows were basically flat. We brought an air mattress with us and I'm so thankful because that was the ONLY reason I was able to sleep Sunday night. Onto the cleanliness. Or should I say lack thereof. There was dirt all over the sheets when we checked in although we didn't realize this until we stripped the bed to place the mattress pad on. There was also POPCORN KERNELS on the bed, under the blanket and top sheet. We literally didn't have popcorn at any time during this stay, either in the room or on the drive with us. We stayed here because it was closer to our friend and cheaper than other places, but if we ever make this trip again, we'll stay in Bangor at a nicer hotel and sacrifice the hour drive each way to Millinocket and back, to have at least an ounce of comfort with the hotel we check into. Please, take my advice and stay SOMEWHERE ELSE. Literally anywhere else in Millinocket or Bangor would've been better than this. Edited to add: toilet was EXTREMELY small and nearly clogged every time we used it. Also, one of us was sick on Sunday (allergic reaction) and needed to use the restroom. Another of us also needed to use the restroom so we used the other available one that was part of the "fitness room" (a regular hotel room but with 1 treadmill/weight bench instead of beds). Not 5 minutes after going into this room that we opened with our room key, one of the owners came by and asked if we needed help. Nope, we're adults and know how to use a bathroom. If you're concerned about people using those particular facilities because of Covid or whatever, you shouldn't allow access to that room. read more

Amazingly, incredibly clean!!!! Also extremely cozy. My husband and I have worked for Hilton owned hotels for years. We know the hotel biz details which the public will never see or know about. This place is immaculate!!! I am a clean freak to the point of getting out flashlight for bed bugs. I am not a Karen. But it happened to me once. Once, and never again. Very nice place. My wife, mother and I stayed here this weekend for one night while visiting family. We had no issues with check in and no issues with the room on arrival. When we got back for the night and went to get into bed, we found dirty Qtips in the bed -- sticky earwax and all. We immediately went to the front desk and they did offer to move us to a new room, but with C-pap machines plugged in and it being close to midnight, we were given our own sheets to go up and make our new beds. The real issue is that it was clear the bed was not cleaned which is unacceptable. The next morning, we went to chat with them about the incident and were assured that management would contact us within a day and no charge would be made until we spoke with someone. Next thing we know, we've been charged and now the manager is "too busy" to call us back or speak with us when we call. We are utterly disappointed and as guests who will be coming up that way frequently this year, we will certainly never return. A simple conversation and apology would have gone a long way. read more

This is a halfway spot for us on our way to visit family near Allagash and it was great for us and two kids under the age of 4. Although Covid has hit them hard the Inn was super clean and the owners very friendly. We are looking forward to visiting when all the amenities are back open with our two kiddos. read more

This hotel was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We loved the family-owned aspect. The rooms were very nice. They allowed pets and they were friendly to our dog as well. Service was excellent. We left very early in the morning to hike Katahdin and the evening before, they asked if they could prepare a small breakfast bag for us - so thoughtful! They also had coin laundry where we could wash our clothes after our hike! The inn was about 25 minutes to Baxter State Park. It was a great place to stay before and after our long hike! read more

This Hotel is very dated and is in need of major repair. The lobby stinks of mildew and mold due to the moisture from the indoor pool. The pool is also in need of major repair, they do not heat it above 60 degrees in the winter so if you are planning to take a dip bring a wet suit. The staff lady at the check in office was very rude and unprofessional. I will not be staying here again. read more

This place is located in Millinocket Maine. Not the most scintillating of places to visit. But when you come off Mount Katahdin tired and cold, and need a place to stay this place will do. But you're going to be surprised it's a quirky little place. The building is tucked back behind a few other shops. It looks like an office building, not a hotel, and certainly not an inn. You'll wonder for a minute where to park and how to get inside. The lobby is not only where you check-in but also includes a full size pool, jacuzzi, pool tables and game room. Note this is all inside. In fact, some rooms are located just poolside with sliding glass doors onto the astroturf so it seems like you're having a warm outside outdoor pool vacation in Maine in the middle of winter when the temperature is only 25°. Hard to describe, why didn't I take a picture? This place is in need of an update. The rooms aren't great but it's not a terrible stay for Millinockett. You know you're in Maine, the front door isn't locked. The staff are friendly and the place was relatively clean, yet in retrospect I wished we had just stayed in the woods another night. read more

Shabby, but clean. Proprietors are very nice people. This place is adequate for a few nights' stay. There are pool tables in the lobby, some sort of driving game that I didn't look too closely at, some chairs by a fireplace... not bad at all. They took over an old Econo-Lodge and it does kinda show. The ceiling tiles in the main lobby are water damaged and need work, the wallpaper in my room was dingy and peeling in spots, but the sheets, towels and bathroom were all clean and reassuring. There's a good sized pool with a depth of about 8 feet in the lobby, and a hot tub, and it was wonderful to just walk down the hall first thing in the morning and jump in the pool to wake up. The breakfast here was less than impressive. Cereal, coffee and milk out of dispensers that are reminiscent of college dining halls, polystyrene containers. Blech. Good thing I was visiting friends and could go eat breakfast at their house!! However, if you're not here on a Sunday and not visiting friends, there are plenty of breakfast places in the area and my friend's mom informs me that there are places to go on a Sunday morning, too, if you know where to find them. Given the rates and the fact that this place really is clean, just run down a bit, and I suspect the new owners plan on doing some renovations, given the visible sheet rock behind the check in desk and their lofty name of "inn and suites", I would probably return here if I'm ever in Millinocket again. It's not a bad value. I just wish the breakfast were a bit better, although they don't seem to currently have the facilities to deal with anything beyond that. We went up for the Milinoket Marathon and our rooms at another motel were destroyed the night before by a water leak :( Fortunatly the friendly staff of the Katahdin came to our rescue. Everyone was super nice, and I would like to specifically thank Allison at the front desk who was not only nice, but when our battery was dead because of the EXTREME cold she was the FIRST of MANY to volunteer to jump us. You don't see that level of service everyday! I wish I could give them more stars :) read more

Disappointing! My girlfriend and I booked this place for two nights when we decided in a late season visit to Baxter State Park. When we pulled up immediately it was clear that it was a little run down. The lobby was full of mattresses. The pool was closed presumably because of COVID. We upgraded to a room with a jacuzzi. While the jacuzzi was nice, the rest of the room was dated. The only extra plug we could find was in the bathroom for charging devices. The Tv reception was fuzzy. Bed was uncomfortable, chair was uncomfortable (it is hurting my back as I type this). The room wasn't cleaned after our first night, again because of COVID. We had to get some more towels but were told they didn't have many which seemed odd since there were only a few guests. Needless to say we won't be back. read more

I stayed here recently for a weekend whitewater rafting trip. At $79/night for two full beds, free wifi, a private bathroom, hot tub and continental breakfast it was a way better deal than sleepin on a bunk bed in a cabin with an outhouse for more money. I'm big on retro/nostalgic/outdated hotels and this place made me feel like I was in 1985 and I was loving it. Best looking motel in Millinocket so we stayed. It seemed like they just opened. The pool and the hot tub were covered. It was warm and dry better than the rain and cold in the park for tonight. Request second floor so you don't hear every step from above. Bfast could have used some yogurt but had the standard waffles which was nice. read more

Group of squatters living in a uhaul right at the opening to the parking lot spoke to the owners and yeah nothing unbooked went to the pamola inn also pet friendly means large dogs not on leashes barking and starting to attack. Noone is ever at the desk and the pool is right in the lobby not only making it hot and humid but yeah fun. Thanks for not doing anything to protect your paying guests and not the homeless squatters checking out our cars! What a dump!! read more

The hotel exterior is boring, but get inside and its beautiful and huge. What a surprise! Lots of cozy seating nooks and fireplace. The area is huge with very high ceilings. The staff and manager Sunny were so kind and sweet and helpful, we hated to leave. Its situated right in the katahdin area close to everything. Very pet friendly, cats and dogs welcome. Only other place in the area we found to except both was Gateway Inn in Medway. Large parking lot, very clean with rooms either viewing the indoor swimming pool or like our rooms, the back woods. The room windows are huge and open up. We were there in january, so its time for great snowmobiling. Whether summer, spring, fall, or winter there is always plenty of natural beauty and activities to enjoy. The beds and pillows were very comfortable, i had my best sleep in a long time. Its a family and great hang out place that you can feel confortable in, its not for the hoity-toity snobs, its for good fun with a with a retro style. It comes with a mini fridge and microwave, internet, 42 inch tv and more. Hope you can enjoy the experience too. read more

The rooms are filthy, the pool water is brown, the staff is incredibly rude, and the entire facility smelled like very old, stale cigarette smoke. The only saving grace was an American staff member who told us to move to a small motel just down the road. We stopped in during a road trip to Baxter State Park, and staying for one night were pleasantly surprised by the comfort of the room. During the pandemic the pool, hot tub and regular breakfast were not available. The poolside room was nice but the still water-filled pool outside tortured us. They should've covered it up to make it look closed. The hotel itself is in need of some upgrades. The building, probably built in the mid 1970s, has a damaged ceiling that looks water damaged, old doors to rooms, and little decor to the rooms. Also rooms tend to be very dark as there are only two lamps plus the light at the door. Room was very comfortable and affordable and we stayed with all the closed amenities only because we needed a one night stay. I will come back as soon as restrictions can be relaxed a bit to experience the regular amenities and breakfast. They do offer a "grab and go" breakfast during this time so that's a definite plus. read more

They yell on the phone at you and continuously call and harass you. Will never book here again especially after reading all the horrid reviews. Booked this place b/c it was all I could find for half way to our destination and oh boy! Get over the fact that you have to drive through Tractor Supply and Rite Aid parking lots and that the front entrance looks more like a warehouse. This place is fantastic! Clean! We checked in here as a last resort because we thought we were too late to get in touch with Dennis at Parks Edge Inn. The lobby is disgusting and the ceiling looks like it's going to fall in. We paid, walked to our room, tried to ignore the smell of stale cigarettes and mildew, realized we couldn't connect to wifi, and set down our bags. No less than three minutes after we went to our room, Dennis got in touch with us and let us know that he had a room available. The Parks Edge Inn was much MUCH nicer and cheaper than the Katahdin Inn and Suites so we immediately called the front desk and said that we wouldn't need the room anymore because our original accommodations were available. The man who answered the phone was rude and short and refused to give us our money back even though we hadn't even sat down in the room. I would NEVER stay here again. I would rather just spend a night in a car. read more

I stayed here for a week for and have no complaints. The front desk couldn't have been more helpful and found my room to be very clean. My bed was comfortable. I asked for extra pillows at 10:00 pm and they were there within a couple of minutes. I would absolutely stay there again. They share a parking lot with Rite Aid for last minute items, so that is incredibly helpful. Free wifi = it's a bit slow, but didn't hamper my ability to do important tasks. It's not fancy, but that's no big deal. If I stayed there for a week and wasn't uncomfortable, it's certainly fine for an overnight or two. Pool is clean. Great for families and biz travelers.
