Katahdin Cabins - Exterior of Cabin #4

This place came up on a Google search for affordable cabin/camping near Baxter State Park and Mount…read moreKatahdin. It was pretty decent for the price. My boyfriend and I booked two nights here - one for the night before the Katahdin hike, and one for after. It was kind of hard to get in touch with the owner- we had to leave a couple voicemails, and we almost wondered if the place was no longer functioning. We also tried calling on the day of our drive up to ask about the check in time, and we didn't hear back. That was not ideal. When we arrived, it was sort of confusing; we went to the main building and met the owner, who was friendly. He upgraded us from a $65 a night one bedroom cabin to a two bedroom cabin for no additional charge, which was nice. The cabin itself was great. It was clean, comfortable, and perfect for a basic and cheap place to sleep after a long hike. The wifi was kind of a pain- I couldn't get my phone to connect, but my boyfriend could. That was a downside. The owner said many folks can't connect. I'd work on that. Overall, it was great for the money spent. It's still about half an hour from the Baxter State Park south entrance, but coming back to a soft bed is great. Only other downside was the noise- there's really no insulation in the cabin, so you can hear everyone talking and roasting marshmallows outside. But it's a fun way to spend time in Millinocket!

I'm not sure what people are expecting it from a nice little rustic cabin experience, but for the…read moreprice & location, This is the best deal in town ... Or, indeed, for many towns around. Does it have 5 star amenities? Absolutely not. Does it have people who dote on every whim that you have? Of course it doesn't. Does it have super nice proprietors who offer you fresh baked goods? Yes it does. Does it have clean safe places to sleep? Absolutely. So there you are. It's a remote part of our country. Enjoy it because we don't have very many of them left. **edit: It seems as though every complaint that I have read comes from somebody that book here through a 3rd or 4th party, My recommendation would be to not do that.

I booked a room for 1 night for my son and I and when we went to check there were 2 issues. The first one being that the pool and hot tub was out of order so I asked if they could discount my room because of it and very quickly said NO. Then I went to pay with my debit card, the room was around $91.00 and she said they would have to put a hold of $200.00 on it and when we checked out we would get our $200.00 back! WTF, that is all the money I had to spend for the day and the next morning for food and gas and what ever else I decided to by! I was PISSED and left, went to Baxter Inn like I originally wanted to, it was so much better there. The Katahdin Inn has HORRIBLE customer service. My son said to call the management and I said that was the management! Poor service and VERY run down hotel. NEVER, NEVER will I ever think of staying there again!

We have been staying at this hotel for jazz and show choir competitions for quite awhile. The…read morehotel is fairly clean and continental breakfast adequate. However, there was a strange chemical smell in our room, and we were charged an extra $15 for an extra person. The clerk told us that every hotel did this-this did not even happen at the Waldorf Astoria in NYC(which is true). Last year, our show choir was charged a different price than was quoted, and, while I was checking out, a woman was charged an extra $150 for having a pet in her room(which she called about). All the clerk would say was that the manager wasn't there. My guess-the clerk was actually the owner. When questioned, the clerk said the manager had an emergency. Not an adequate excuse. Many, many show choirs and jazz groups use this hotel. Wise to be up front, honest, and have a manager on duty to honestly deal with dilemmas. I already know several family groups who are opting to stay at a nearby inn-or even in Orono.
