From the road it doesn't look all that great, but the service and rooms were much better than expected. They also had a nice picnic area out back with newly planted trees. Breakfast was just what you would expect from an Inn. The bed was comfortable, air conditioner worked like a charm on a 100F day. I'll be back here next time I come through. If anyone in your group is allergic to cats, please stay away. The whole front office is a maze of cat equipment, cat trees, cover furniture for protection and at least one litter box. The breakfast area is in this section of the lodge. The front desk person was not sympathetic to the person with an allergy in our party. To top it off, our room smelled of cigarette smoke. read more

If you can deal with cats living in the lobby and restaurant areas then this place is for you. In the public areas are cat toys, a cat tree, multiple litter boxes, sheets covering the furniture and a sign warning to keep the door closed to prevent the cats from escaping then this place is for you. No warning of these conditions while booking online. read more

I loved this place. Although it was a bit outdated, everything was so clean. They have a washer/dryer ($2/load), pool, sauna, and breakfast/game room. I thought the food was yummy and it was well organized. Honestly wish I would've stayed here over my last one. The owners/staff are extremely friendly and kind, and there are two cute, furry hosts to greet you, too! Also, though it's near a main road, you can't hear any of the traffic. We stayed here picking up hikers finishing the AT in Baxter. The hotel is a little older but clean and well maintained. The staff was courteous and helpful, check in and out was efficient. Our room was clean and comfortable. The bed was comfortable with more than adequate pillows, blankets, and covers on or available. The bathroom was small but clean, well maintained and sufficient. The continental breakfast had a decent selection and served as a good start to the day. If in the area, I would stay here again. read more

EXCELLENT!! Don't judge this book by its cover! Looked like brand new inside. A LOT nicer inside than outside. Very large, very clean comfortable rooms, couldn't be happier with this choice! As with most places the continental breakfast is just something to put on the advert not worth even walking downstairs for. And unfortunately there isn't a lot in town as everything was closed when we were there except for the Dunkin donuts and McDonald's, it's a very small area but again the hotel was amazing! What a truly great place to stay! We came here after spending five days in Baxter State Park. At that point we would've stayed anywhere with running water! But this place really went above and beyond. The owner Tim is a genuinely kind and caring person. He is happy to chat Katahdin trails and local businesses, and he truly cares about his guests. He made this a really great experience. There are three kitties in the lobby too! Dixie, Cosmo, and Fenway are all adorable, sweet cats that roam around and make great company. Our room was clean, the bathroom was very nice, and the pillows were fantastic. It looks like an old school motel, and it kind of is, but they really shine in service and customer experience here. They have a pool but we didn't go in. There is also a sauna, small gym, and laundry room. All very clean and well maintained. I can't wait to come back here! check- in help we're nice quick and efficient. laundry machines are $2.00 for washers and dryers which run 40 mins and do a good job. while rooms are fairly clean, supplies are skimpy. one small bar of soap, to wash you hands you have to take soap out of shower and vice versa. Your in shower then realize you have no soap! no extra toilet paper. even after they clean! we had 20 sheets left after they cleaned! we leave tomorrow morning. buffet breakfast is a joke. hope you like dry cereal , milk and bananas. no decaf coffee " upon request". coffee maker in room didn't work, . complained this morning, they took away old one but no new one. tonight went down to Desk for extra toilet paper (gee whiz!) and asked about coffeemaker. they went into an empty room and got one. Diff. Offer a,er leaked all over counter. And this lovely notice on mirror. Sigh. read more

Here is a classic example of "un-branding" a known chain hotel name and has became a mom and pop place. Not a lot has changed, I feel... and its in a state of rapid decline. We were taking in the last of the leaf colors and as the moose were starting to emerge from the woods onto the road, we decided to seek refuge and pulled into the parking lot. The sign claims pool, hot tub, continental breakfast, free wi-fi and guest laundry. Well, that is all true. The wi-fi is very strong. The pool is inclosed and at the front of the hotel while the hot tubs are at the back and indoors as well. These hot tubs are the kind that you put in your back yard, and are doing very well to reach a 3' depth and not very warm. The laundry is in the breakfast room (former bar area of the chain version) and at $2 for a wash and $2 for a dry is not well priced. As for the room... the beds are fairly comfortable. The furniture is in fairly decent condition. The wallpaper is peeling, the hallway has a funky smell, and the carpet is in dire need of being replaced. The bathroom... oh my, robins egg blue and peeling wallpaper with really dated tiles on the floor. Oddly enough, this almost retro chic again. The verdict: In late October they are still charging early October prices which really isn't warranted. Its much better than sleeping in a car, but at a price that needs to be reviewed. read more

Mom and pop own this hotel. Their rates are dirt cheap and it has wifi. There is even a hot tub room, but u got to be nuts to go in. The place is clean and it's the best option if you're climbing mt katahdin. I have come back 3 times. read more

I liked this place a lot, and so did the rest of my party. The staff was friendly, the breakfast is fine (includes cereal and oatmeal), the beds were very comfortable, and it was clean. What more do you really want? Maybe you want two hot tubs, a pool, and exercise equipment. Well, they have that - and I totally disagree with the person who said you have to be nuts to go in the hot tub room - it looks totally modern and fine to me (though I did not enter the hot tubs - but I looked in them). I'm starting to wonder why people write so many negative reviews on yelp..... the color of paint in the bathroom just isn't that big of a deal to me.... read more

Yes, the motel is old, but it is very clean. The breakfast room is very large compared to most. It is very convenient to town and points beyond. Clearly, the best thing about this place is the owners. Not only did Tim offer excellent advice on hiking, but when my wife got sick and no rooms were available, they set her up in a liitle room with a cot. And gave her Gatorade! (I was floating the Penobscot with my kids....see North Country Rivers review) Really nice people trying their hardest! read more

Great place to stay if you are on your way to Katahdin the next day. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Not fake - genuinely looking to help . Rooms are basic, but clean and fresh. Little touches, like notes from housekeeping or the 'pebble tray' in the bathroom show to me that the owners care that your stay is the best they can provide. It's good value and I can see my family coming back and using this as a base for exploring the park further. read more

I really enjoyed my stay at the Baxter inn. the outside was a bit deceiving as it looks like an old motel, but the insides were very clean and kept up. the room was your basic room. fridge and microwave in room was nice. located 20 minutes from Baxter state park and was the perfect location to stay in for our trip whitewater rafting. read more
