This place came up on a Google search for affordable cabin/camping near Baxter State Park and Mount Katahdin. It was pretty decent for the price. My boyfriend and I booked two nights here - one for the night before the Katahdin hike, and one for after. It was kind of hard to get in touch with the owner- we had to leave a couple voicemails, and we almost wondered if the place was no longer functioning. We also tried calling on the day of our drive up to ask about the check in time, and we didn't hear back. That was not ideal. When we arrived, it was sort of confusing; we went to the main building and met the owner, who was friendly. He upgraded us from a $65 a night one bedroom cabin to a two bedroom cabin for no additional charge, which was nice. The cabin itself was great. It was clean, comfortable, and perfect for a basic and cheap place to sleep after a long hike. The wifi was kind of a pain- I couldn't get my phone to connect, but my boyfriend could. That was a downside. The owner said many folks can't connect. I'd work on that. Overall, it was great for the money spent. It's still about half an hour from the Baxter State Park south entrance, but coming back to a soft bed is great. Only other downside was the noise- there's really no insulation in the cabin, so you can hear everyone talking and roasting marshmallows outside. I'm not sure what people are expecting it from a nice little rustic cabin experience, but for the price & location, This is the best deal in town ... Or, indeed, for many towns around. Does it have 5 star amenities? Absolutely not. Does it have people who dote on every whim that you have? Of course it doesn't. Does it have super nice proprietors who offer you fresh baked goods? Yes it does. Does it have clean safe places to sleep? Absolutely. So there you are. It's a remote part of our country. Enjoy it because we don't have very many of them left. **edit: It seems as though every complaint that I have read comes from somebody that book here through a 3rd or 4th party, My recommendation would be to not do that. read more

This past weekend my boyfriend and I went up to Millinocket to go rafting on the Penobscot. After learning from last year, there was no way we were going to go camping on our mini vacation. Luckily, we found Katahdin Cabins online and it was everything we wanted and more. The cabin we rented (which is basically a refurbished shed) had a private bathroom, TV w/cable, microwave, mini-fridge, DVD player upon request, and even towels. What made the experience even better, is that it felt so homey. The family who owned the cabins brought up muffins and cupcakes to our door every afternoon. Then...when we grilled up some hot dogs, the wife asked us if we needed any plates or tongs. This is above and beyond normal customer service. I kind of felt like I was at my parent's house (almost). I HIGHLY recommend Katahdin Cabins for a clean, comfy, affordable place to stay. Huge plus: the one bedroom cabin is only $60/night. read more

We visited Baxter State Park in the beginning of summer and stayed here. It is adequate for a night or 2. Small rooms; but they have a nice bed, a TV and a working bath with hot water. If you are not into camping; but still want to visit Baxter and not stay on the campgorunds; this is a nice place to stay. read more

So far I have had to email owner twice and call them three times to try to get my reservation refunded. I am within the cancellation period, but they are being unresponsive. I made the reservation on hotels.com but the owner needs to refund. So frustrating. Buyer beware! read more

We stayed during the Millinocket Marathon in 2017...well, we tried. We showed up and they oversold their cabins and we were out of a place to stay. They claimed they would refund the $141 in room and tax, and claimed they had through several correspondence, but then just stopped responding, answering phone calls and we never saw the refund. After literally talking to them, shaking their hand, talking on the phone, then nothing. I wouldn't recommend anyone trusting their money with this business. read more

The family and I have been staying quite frequently at the cabins, and every stay is exactly the same - a pleasure. Extremely clean cabins, no unnecessary amenities fresh towels, cable tv, microwave, and fridge. It is always also a pleasant surprise to see fresh home made muffins on top of the microwave when we return in the evenings. CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION!! We booked with Booking.com, as per their policy we were to pay upon arrival. When we arrived at 4:30pm there was a sign telling us they were off site but we were welcome us and we were to take cabin 4. Inside the cabin we found our key and wifi password. We took the welcome sign from reception and locked our cabin door. We went to a local restaurant for dinner. When we returned at 7:30pm there was a sign in our cabin door welcoming another group. We used our key and entered the cabin. The owner showed up 5 minutes later and told us that he had rented to someone else because we had not paid. I explained that with Booking.com you pay upon arrival. He told us to get out or he would call the cops. We decided to book another place immediately and wait for the cops to explain what had happened. The local police chief of Millinocket arrived about 10 minutes later. Once we explained what had happened he apologized for our experience and told us that we would enjoy the other accommodations that we had just booked. Katahdin Cabins is pretty poor accommodations but you get what you pay for. We just wanted a place to crash before hiking early the next morning. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!! If you're a thru hiker and tempted by the price and close proximity to Baxter state park I highly suggest looking elsewhere. I tried to change a reservation through booking.com and it became an absolute nightmare. The management is extremely inflexible so unless you are prepared to sign in blood it's not worth it. Apparently there is a policy that you can't change within 14 days of arrival. The day we are trying to summit Katahdin is calling for thunderstorms thus wanting to change our reservation at the cabin. Our card was immediately charged the full price when we booked the room for $59. I tried to problem solve around the issue of cancelling within 14 days by offering to upgrade our room to $90 room that is available tomorrow 9/12. After an absurd amount of phone calls with booking.com and the owner skip each providing contradicting information, I was essentially told I was screwed and that all they could do is reserve a $90 room in addition to the $60 room I no longer needed but still being charged for. While I understand that the owners are trying to avoid getting the short end of the stick by charging in full, I offered to upgrade to a more expensive room. I was willing to be charged $30 more. You would think that folks running "Katahdin cabins" might be able to negotiate with thru-hikers. Fully disappointed. read more

I guess this business must be closed down. I know the Millinocket economy is poor now but I would think customer satisfaction might be somewhat high on their list of good business practices. I have not received a reply to any repeated requests for information over the last 25 days since my previous post. Be aware that if you make a reservation thru Bookings.com and cancel within the policy cancellation window you may have a difficult time getting your money back. The price was right and the cabin is big enough for two people. It was clean, quiet, the TV worked well, the shower was hot, the heat worked, and the wifi was adequate. It's fine for a few nights while visiting Mount Baxter State Park, although it is about 15 miles (25-30 minutes) from the southern entrance. To be honest, it's adequate, but not much more. I contacted the owner, Michael "Skip" Mohoff in March regarding reservations for June. He told me he only accepts checks. I sent him a check for $141 to reserve a cabin. Upon arrival, Skip told me that he was having plumbing issues and that he didn't have a cabin available. He wrote me a refund check for $141. I mobile deposited the check that day. His check bounced. It took 4 weeks, multiple emails, and Millinocket police department involvement for me to finally receive a money order for the refund, plus the returned check fee. He still shorted me $1.50, but I am just glad to get most of my money back. I do not recommend this place. Upon speaking to some locals about Mr Mohoff, I learned he has a reputation for doing this type of stunt. read more

We stayed at the cabins for a month in 2014. We had a very comfortable, enjoyable stay. This is a friendly, family run business. We had homemade muffins or cookies delivered every morning! The beds are comfy and the rooms are very clean. There are only seven cabins, so it's quite quiet in the evenings. Our cabin had a small refrigerator, microwave, wifi and television with cable. Stayed for 2 nights while hiking and fishing at Baxter. The cabins are very clean, the bedding is great (fluffy down comforter, not a creepy motel blanket bed cover), and it's nice and quiet for being on a main road. On our first night, the owner delivered AMAZING fresh baked cookies to us in the middle of a rainstorm. After dragging yourself up Katahdin, that's an act of kindness you can really appreciate! Have not stayed there but had to cancel a reservation that I had thru Booking.com which I had been fully charged for. Still do not have it credited back to my card even with a message from 'Skip' that it would be done in 24hrs. read more
