The exterior looks like a Soviet-era prison. The parking lot and driveway could be on the road to Murmansk. (I've been to places with worse winters. Climate is no excuse.) The lobby is weird. The hallways are redolent with the odor of sewage spills, the security lock on the door is broken and the wall around the air conditioner is rotting... All signs of lack of attention to detail. On the plus side: Clean and new linens and towels. Adequate house keeping IN the room. And When the only elevator broke, the staff made sure to get it fixed quickly. They decorations are so cool you could spend an hour just exploring. And, the kitchen!! Has everything you could think of to make enough for a crowd. The owner knows all the sweet spots to travel to and will even show you around! Dont miss out on staying here! Its on the trails, close to store for gas or a license, and close to town and restaurants.

The Rooms were so outdated and not very nice. The shower is built for 4-foot people. Everyone's room rate was different and much higher than the other. No coffee in the room. The refrigerator plug didn't work, so that was useless. The restaurant was attached but dark and dirty looking, so we had to go elsewhere to eat. So that was a task all being on sled. None of us will be back.

My boyfriend and I booked two nights here - one for the night before the Katahdin hike, and one for after. It was kind of hard to get in touch with the owner- we had to leave a couple voicemails, and we almost wondered if the place was no longer functioning. We also tried calling on the day of our drive up to ask about the check in time, and we didn't hear back. That was not ideal. When we arrived, it was sort of confusing; we went to the main building and met the owner, who was friendly. He upgraded us from a $65 a night one bedroom cabin to a two bedroom cabin for no additional charge, which was nice. The cabin itself was great. It was clean, comfortable, and perfect for a basic and cheap place to sleep after a long hike. The wifi was kind of a pain- I couldn't get my phone to connect, but my boyfriend could. That was a downside. The owner said many folks can't connect. I'd work on that. Overall, it was great for the money spent. It's still about half an hour from the Baxter State Park south entrance, but coming back to a soft bed is great. Only other downside was the noise- there's really no insulation in the cabin, so you can hear everyone talking and roasting marshmallows outside. But it's a fun way to spend time in Millinocket!

Does it have 5 star amenities? Absolutely not. Does it have people who dote on every whim that you have? Of course it doesn't. Does it have super nice proprietors who offer you fresh baked goods? Yes it does. Does it have clean safe places to sleep? Absolutely. So there you are. It's a remote part of our country. Enjoy it because we don't have very many of them left. **edit: It seems as though every complaint that I have read comes from somebody that book here through a 3rd or 4th party, My recommendation would be to not do that.
