Awesome! Visiting family in Houlton and were told about this amazing BBQ place so we took a ride and wow was the food good! Crowded when we arrived a party of 5 they opened up a section to accommodate us and explained they were busy and it might take awhile. No such thing! We were waited on in a timely manner and food came out at the right time. I had the three sliders with one each of the pulled pork, chicken, and brisket oh sooo good!! This is Maine BBQ! People talk about the differences between Texas style, Memphis style, KC style, and so on - well this is the best example of Maine style BBQ! If you love BBQ then this place should be on your bucket list. The smoke is just right and the meat is not drenched in sauce. Highly recommend their ribs and their "wet" brisket. Also, the smoked wings are amazing. This place is right along the way if you are headed to explore Baxter State Park or any of the other scenic adventures in Maine. read more

Better food than you would expect for this fairly remote area. Cornbread = A- Brisket = A- (meat quality is a B but sauces are an A+) Ribs = C (too fatty and too burnt for my taste. Nice outdoor eating area. Will come again for the brisket. read more

Flatlander's catered my wedding and we ended up very disappointed in them. The owner says all of the things that you want to hear, but fails to deliver. When she say, "I have _____ and you can use it for your wedding." She means for an additional fee. The hidden fees with Flatlander's was highly disappointing, including a mandatory 20% tip. The food was very tasty, but they failed to bring enough. To make the matter worse they gave several different stories as to the lack of food; they told the Maid of Honor that due to people getting seconds, there wasn't enough. They told the groom that by law they couldn't leave left overs, so they packed it all up. They also wanted to close up the bar early, saying that not enough people were buying to make it worth their time(even though I had paid them for the whole evening). Highly overpriced, unprofessional, and verging on rude. Two stars should be considered a gift, almost went with one star. read more

Our family staying in Baxter park and decided to come out for the day and found this delightful BBQ place outside on the scenic highway. It was an oasis for us! Fast and delicious. I can only vouch for the beef brisket as it is so delicious with an au jus on the side that I can't bring my self to try anything else yet. We stopped in on a whim on a Sunday to grab some food. The owner was amazing and helpful. We weren't sure what to try for beer so she offered for us to sample several different beers. Then she made a wonderful suggestion for food for two: the platter for two. It had all the bbq meats available with four sides. We sat outside and enjoyed our meal. The food came out promptly. I would definitely recommend this to anyone passing through patten after finishing hiking or snowmobiling in the area. read more

We stopped at Flatlanders on our way to Baxter State Park on a rainy Thursday evening. This place is a gem! We both had the brisket platters and they were great. We read the good reviews and decided to try it out on the way back from a hike. My wife was greeted coldly and told she was in the wrong line. I honestly hope the owner/manager was having a bad day and the unpleasant/unwelcoming treatment is not a pattern with all customers. The unpleasantness was repeated with every interaction from ordering, getting our food and then asking for the BBQ we paid extra for that was not in our bag. Be prepared to pay for anything extra that would typically be free at any other restaurant: $1 for a very small takeout cup of BBQ sauce and $2 for each extra set of plastic silverware. The prices on the Facebook website were also several dollars different than actual prices and they were unapologetic. We are typically very easy to please! Just be nice, smile and act like you want our business! Ask the brisket was great, but tater tots were cold and tasted old. Portions were ok. read more

My wife said if I would go to Houlton with her, she would treat me to a place she read about in Patten. We pulled into Flatlanders Smokehouse and the smell of smoked meats was immediate. I love smoked ribs, and in our travels to other states, I always find a place that serves these. I have to say, these are the best ribs and pulled pork I have had! This place is awesome!
