The only reason this isn't a 5-star review is because the wedding planner realized, at the last minute, that the draping near the door wouldn't work as it was set. I was surprised that Robin didn't realize this before she left. The bride and the wedding planner moved some things around and it worked perfectly. We were very impressed with the work that Maine Event did under very weird circumstances in a very weird space. I would highly recommend them.

It was tough to get things clearly outlined and it seemed as though my business was a burden to him. I probably sent him 5 emails in a year about the details. At one point I had asked him previously what the charges would be if I decided to down size the tent based on the weather, and his response was literally "I will be fair" - well, that isn't how budgets work. He also told me that I could make final decisions up to the day before. Literally every single other vendor advised me to eat the deposit and find someone else, not one person recommended his services. Our wedding was laid back and fairly fuss-free. I didn't "bridezilla" out, not on anyone, including my mother! Nathaniel was literally the biggest pain in my ass about the entire day. A few days before I had tried connecting with him about down-sizing the tent and I was told it wasn't possible. He arrives, tent is huge, I ask him to make it smaller, he refuses and is so rude to me I should have just fired him on the spot. I'd asked for nice wooden chairs, he shows up with shitty plastic ones. My sister-in-law steps in, he's rude to her. The day was literally perfect except for having to deal with Nathaniel. Thankfully my husband had worked doing this very same thing back in college and he knew that the information I was being told was false and once he called Nathaniel on it, things were changed. Nathaniel is lazy, uncommunicative, has absolutely zero sense of customer service, his products are poor quality and quite frankly, he treats women like shit. Or, he hates his job. Either way, I would never suggest anyone use his services, ever. Give your business to another tent company.

About a year ago, I had a pretty cruddy customer service experience with another party rental…read morecompany in the Greater Portland area, so I made a vow to try A Plus Party Rentals for my next big shindig. Pros: + I needed round, high-top, cocktail tables. At the other party rental place: $40. At A Plus Party Rental? $8. I KID YOU NOT. I don't understand this at all, but it's magical and I'll take it. Segue... + Generally speaking, their prices are always a bit cheaper than the other big party rental place in South Portland. Did I ever tell you the one about the $40 high-top cocktails? No? See above. + They had all the items I needed when I showed up. At the other party rental place, they hemmed and hawed with me about what I needed and when I needed it by. + Even though they weren't supposed to (and I hope this doesn't get them in trouble), the two young men in the "warehouse" area loaded all of our equipment in and out of our U-Haul. To sit back and watch them load made me feel like a princess... I did ask multiple times if I could help, and they very politely told me I didn't have to. They were respectful, they were responsible, and they were thoughtful - asked questions about what we were doing before the event, remembered who we were and asked about our event when we went to return everything, and even helped us clean the U-Haul after (knowing U-Haul fines for any piece of litter left in the bed or cab). + Every person I encountered - from the young men, to the woman in the office, to the man with the delivery truck (who I think was the owner) - was a rockstar at customer service. Accommodating, efficient, timely... I so appreciated being treated like a customer here, while at the other party rental place I was made to feel like a joke. Thank you, A Plus Party Rentals, for treating me like a human regardless of the size of my order! Cons: - For the life of her, the woman I was speaking to when I called could not understand me despite spelling everything out multiple times very slowly; as such my name and address were completely wrong when I got my receipt which I had to call a second and third time to have sent to me when they didn't send it the first and second time I called asking for it. - They are located REALLY off the beaten path. If you're throwing a party in Portland proper, it's quite the extra effort to get the stuff from A Plus Party Rentals and bring it back into town. All in all, these folks are worth your time if you like being treated with respect and saving money. Two things I know I appreciate always!

Told us they would bring it Saturday morning, we tried calling and texting all day to just be ignored. They show up Sunday to pick the tent up and he couldn't afford to give me money back for the dance floor until Tuesday. He had multiple excuses and not one was valid for ignoring us and making sure we had a dance floor. Do not use this business, showed up with a crew that he just "hires" for a day and not one of them had a license, and a dog that runs around and poops on the lawn while not picking it up before leaving. Save yourself the headache and use a better company!
