We had a great stay Aug 1-10, 2026. Very nice campground. We came all the way from Wisconsin to finish hiking the AT. Marcel and Wendi run a tight ship and I always appreciate a campground with rules that are followed. Everything was clean and well maintained except for available laundry service. Their dryer was not working during our stay but the Laundro-mat in Millinocket was great. Quiet hours were quiet. Their RV tank pumper service was very helpful. Marcel was very helpful with local services. We shredded our Jeep tire on the Katahdin Ironworks Road and Marcel helped us get it replaced. I highly recommend this campground. read more

In all of our years of camping, I have never been to a campground this hostile. When I made my reservations, I indicated that I had a fifth wheel and was looking for a pull through site. In addition to my initial payment of just over $179, I was told that I could get insurance for $8 that would allow me to change my dates or move to the next year, which seemed odd, but I paid the $8. When we arrived an hour early, I was charged another $8.52 for early check in. Before moving onto the site, we walked in and checked it out and I expressed concern to the owner at the office that it wouldn't work due to; the hilly and uneven site, low branches and size. The owner assured me that it wouldn't be a problem. I asked about other site availability and even though there were minimal campers there, he said that there was only one other site available but I would need an electrical extension cord, he had a used one that I could purchase for another $30. We then drove to our assigned site and during this process, we had to hold back branches to avoid scratching the camper. In the end, our site was on a hill and in no way was it suitable for any size fifth wheel as we had suspected. We then walked back to the office and explained our problems with our site. He became increasingly hostile, did not accept anything I said and kept up with the line that many larger fifth wheels have used that site with no problems and that I must be doing something wrong. Based on the treatment that we were receiving as well as our increasing concern regarding safety, we decided to leave and asked for a refund, which he quickly and adamantly refused. In a calm manner, I let him know that we were unhappy with his handling of this matter. His level of anger increased, he threatened to call the State Police (which we encouraged him to). He continued to rant, told us we had 30 minutes to get off his property and at the end charged in my direction as we were exiting the office. It took us almost 30 minutes to get the camper out of the site that was effectively not a pull through due to large branches that would have definitely damaged the roof of the camper. We had to back up the hill and exit through another unoccupied site. In closing, several other negative reviewers including google have experienced very similar issues, treatment and concerns. read more

Went there July 9-12. Very friendly staff, and the campground is really clean and well maintained. Plenty of room on my site! Even brought my firewood to me!!! I've been to many campgrounds and this place truly is the best. My name is Mike and I travelled 5 hours from Salem NH to get there. I'll be back in a couple weeks! read more

Nice campground with mostly wooded sites. Some are a little tight to get into, but otherwise okay. Spent almost a week there this summer. Bathhouse was basic, but very clean and well maintained. Owners were nice, but a little strict with the 5mph limit - even for kids/others on bikes (which seemed a little weird). Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would return if back in the area. read more

Wilderness Edge Campground - Campsite. - Campgrounds Near Me - Millinocket, Maine

This was our first time staying at wilderness edge campground. We were greeted when we came in and it was nothing but friendly the whole time we were there. The owners were super nice and always willing to help out even though we really didn't need any help because everything was there that we needed. We were at site 31 and it was clean and well-kept upon our arrival. We backed up to a tree line and had privacy throughout our stay. Other campers were respectful and the campground is definitely pet friendly. We didn't use the pool because it was early in the season but everything was clean and manicured. There's a great playground for kids although we didn't have any kids with us. You are close to great restaurants kayaking and hiking trails. We already booked for next year and can't wait to come back thank you wilderness edge for a wonderful stay read more

Love the large sites. Real woodsy. No sewer hook up but they do have dump station. Didn't know they offered a honey wagon until someone was getting it done so we had it done. Might be a thing to advertise. Showers are hot. My second shower was pretty crappy with only 2 streams coming out, first one was great. Used the washer/dryer while there. Worked well but my second load did not spin well. Called owner (there was a sign saying it might happen) he was there in like 5 minutes. He had me rewatch but it wasn't much better. So be careful there. Owners seem to be very very helpful and super nice. Very clean campground, store has a little bit of everything. We stayed for a week. Internet was fine for phone but not for watching tv. We were fine with that because I pretty much knew that coming in. We had a 40 ft 5th wheel. read more

Under new ownership called to make a reservation the website hasn't been working with the transfer of ownership, but let me tell you the new owners are super friendly. They went out of their way to make my son and myself feel comfortable and let us in when we were just roaming the Maine area. Did two weekends in May both weekends were awesome.. fantastic location for Baxter State park. And easy access to the main ATV trails. read more

Great spot to camp and the owners are super friendly. My two friends and I stayed for 3 nights and had no complaints at all! If you see any bad reviews, they're probably lying read more

This campground is amazing. It is very relaxing and brings you back to earth. Marcel and wendi are amazing host. They have a great friendly staff by their side. They offer plenty to do and there is plenty of adventures you can do yourself in the area. This is definitely our favorite place to go and look forward to going back repeatedly. read more

I stayed at this campground while in the area to do some hiking and had a great time camping. Check-in was fast and friendly. The campsites were a good size and had plenty of room to park and set up a large tent. My site did not have a picnic table but I did see that some others did. I brought my grill top and used it to do some nice campfire cooking on the fire pit. They had nice dry firewood available for purchase at the camp store in the front. It was very quite after 10pm and I was able to get a good nights sleep. The shower facilities were very clean. I saw they had a pool but did not get chance to use it. Kayaks available for rent but you must be able to transport them. This campground is conveniently located about 2.5 miles away from a Hannaford Supermarket to load up on ice and other supplies. It is around 8 miles to get to Baxter State Park. This area in general has many mosquitos, so be sure to bring and use insect repellent and wear appropriate clothing to minimize bites. read more

Good campground. Some tent sites are bit small. Bathrooms are very clean and looked after. We bought two bundles of wood. And they offered to bring it to our site. We also had a package shipped there and they were kind enough to allow us to do that and saw to it that it got in to our hands. Very kind hosts. Mosquito repellent necessary. But I hear most of Maine is that way. I would definitely stay here again. Campground is about 40 minutes from the abol trailhead. Bout 20 to the park itself. read more

The owner was rude he didn't know how to talk to people and wasn't friendly at all. The camp roads were not maintained. Going into the campground, I hit a rock and it ripped the oil pan of my car. The owner wasn't at all helpful, he got upset at us for talking at 9:00 pm. The urinals were both broken, and the wifi didn't work. Avoid this campground at all cost. read more

The staff helped us park and we hit a stump. Another large rv tried to warn us not to park there, they hit the same stump on the side of the road. Spots are very tight. Talked to owner and they said we have to get out and look, which of course we did but the spot they put us in was ridiculous and so is a stump on the side of the road read more

We love this place! All the sites are set in a dense woods. Many have a private, isolated feel. This is not your typical commercial campground! Wendy and Marcel were very accommodating, and made us feel right at home. Be sure to bring an extra hose and power extension cord, as some sites are laid out with services in an odd place. But that's OK-- our site was nuthin' but woods! Gorgeous! read more

I would not recommend Wilderness Edge Campground. A tent location with no water hookup or electricity for five people and two nights costs $155! With these rates just get a hotel or keep looking. At the time of post the urinals and the dish washing station did not work. Further more our vehicle ended up getting stuck on the gravel road which appears to be solid however in reality is almost liquid in consistency. I would not stay here again. read more

Fantastic campground. Level wooded sites, great minimalistic cabins, clean grounds and bathrooms and the owners are top notch. Our kids loved the playground and the pool. Can't wait to go back read more

The golden rule applies here and the food is good.if you are not here you are missing out on the good life. The people that run this place know what makes a proper campground and do what it takes to let good people feel calm and happy. 5 stars definately. read more

Stayed here while spending a couple days at Baxter State Park. Just about 15 minutes from the gate. Had our pick of campsites, and the owners daughter delivered us wood in a golf cart! Just a few other campers there on this weeknight. The owners even offered to watch our dog for the day while we were hiking ( as dogs aren't allowed in the state park). Clean bathroom, nice, hot, non timered showers, friendly hosts, overall, a great place to stay!!!!! read more

Pros: ~Free hot showers ~Quiet ~ other campers are friendly and helpful (more than the owners) ~Baxter state park was beautiful - worth the trip Cons: ~drove 6 hrs to find out they cancelled our reservations (booked 6 months in advance) after we inquired weeks before about what the cancellation policy was (they assumed because we inquired, we wanted to cancel and never asked or confirmed, then to accommodation us, they thought moving from site to site every-day was acceptable. We have a pop-up and 3 kids, moving every-night was not acceptable for me. A kind family from Texas in a driving RV gave us their site and they camped in the parking lot so we did not have to move every day. In speaking to other campers, they had similar experience, moving from site to site, small camp sites, no room to park. Seems the owners have little experience in running a campground and site scheduling. ~our camp site was small and barely fit our popup when extended, we had no room to park our vehicle the entire stay ~when booking they told us reservations not required for other outdoor adventures, such as tours and rentals, when we asked upon arrival, they told us they had no time or resources to help us ~ wifi never worked , when asked they were rude and said its our phone, other campers experienced same issue - no wifi and no help ~we had a site with no septic - we were told they had pump out service, coincidentally, that was not available either during our stay ~camp store was small and overpriced, wood was dried to the bone and went up inflames easy and fast ~camp ground not family oriented, no kids activities, no campsite activities, they have a small pool and a small play ground that is it - you pretty much entertain your-self, we are used to kid friendly and kid oriented camp grounds Overall - I would not stay here again, nor would I recommend this place to anyone. They way over-sold this place at camping expo and the brochure must be super photo shopped. Owner was rude and not helpful at all. Spend a bit more and stay somewhere else. read more

The owner never disclosed the non-refundable payment, made me pay 100% upfront. He was very rude and changed my words on me . Then wound up giving my site to another set of campers and still will not refund me my money. Worst experience ever and there's other campgrounds around that are a lot cheaper . read more

First, let me say, that when we arrived our original site had been changed without any notification. Second, we were nicely placed NEXT to a broken dump station and a four way road that tended to be busy quite a lot. Our site reminded me of an overflow camp site. So much for any privacy or being set back off the road. We were very lucky to listen to class A motor homes and UTV traffic most of the evening while they tried to be placed into sites that they were too big for. It was like stuffing 10 lbs of stuff into a 5 lb bag. Very comical. Third, on Sunday, while my husband was hiking at BSP and I stayed back at the site, I was fortunate enough to listen to a dual wheeled diesel pick up truck back up and pull forward ALL day long (because he didn't know how to drive the thing!) while he tried to remove stuff from the broken dump station into a loud sounding contraption on a trailer. This went on ALL frigging day on Sunday of a long holiday weekend! Being way up north in Maine you can't find any music stations (which is fine unless you are listening to a dually truck and some kind of poop sucking contraption!) Needless to say, I was in tears when my husband arrived back from his hike. I didn't find this campground friendly at all, after signing in no one said hi to us all weekend or stopped by to make sure we were comfortable. They also told us we could dump at the Chamber of Commerce down the road and that they accepted donations but wasn't necessary. In my opinion THEY should be making a contribution to the Chamber, not us. And the WiFi was not good either. When I called for the code, I was informed it was posted in the bathroom. NOT ALL of us used their facilities so I wouldn't have known. From reading previous reviews this dump station issue is a continuous problem here. Only good quality that we could find was that the bathrooms were very clean according to my husband. There are other good reviews out there from other people who have stayed here, but, unfortunately my experience was not that way. Still have not been given a reason as to why they changed out site after we had paid in full. read more

This is a wonderfully friendly place. I stayed here a couple of nights before a recent canoeing trip and I couldn't have felt more welcome. The family that runs the campground is simply great. Also, while the campground is on the Edge of the Wilderness, it's not too far from town, so it's easy to go into Millinocket in the morning for breakfast and last minute supplies--which I did. Highly recommended. read more

We booked this campground because it was close to the rafting company we chose to go through. The website looked wonderful but quickly realized we chose the wrong campground. Upon arriving the owner, Marcel, was not friendly and quite frankly rude. Three out of the five of our group was there and the other two wouldn't be there until late that night. We told him we would give him their license plate numbers and meet them in the front to show them up. He said absolutely not because we will get lost and aren't welcome on the RV side of the campground. He then drove by our camp site multiple times asking when they will be there (even though he knew it was going to be late, around 10:30 at night). When our friends arrived he made them turn off their head lights so they could not see where they were driving in the woods, then told them to go to bed. There was an extension cord in the woods so we hooked up our chargers to that because it was right across from the camp site. He drove by throughout the night and saw the extension cord across the side. We went rafting the next day and came back to find our coolers moved as well as the extension cord gone. He came back later that night to yell at us for using the extension cord that was there (even though he saw it previously in the night) but waited until we were gone to move our things and grab it. So we ended up buying our own extension cord and got yelled at for not asking for permission to plug it in to the plug located on the bathroom wall (public use). Also we had firewood but ended up running out so we walked to the office to purchase more (10:15pm) and Marcel was very rude and said make sure to call me earlier next time, after saying he was available 24/7 when we checked in. He charged us 5.00 per bundle and had nothing but soft wood so that lasted about an hour for two bundles of wood. These owners are not friendly and very judgmental towards younger campers. We were all very quiet and made no noise after 10 but continued to get belittled. I will NEVER recommend staying here.. MRE (maine rafting expeditions) is AMAZING but has NO affiliation with the campground.. MRE should take their business elsewhere. read more

We were at Wildermess Edge for 2'nights. It is definitely in the wilderness which suits us just fine. On the first day, we got in our truck to head to Baxter State Park and our truck wouldn't start. The owner Wendy came to try and jump the truck with no luck. Marcel the owner came right after her and was so much help! He made a call to a local auto parts store and they brought us out the batteries we needed for the truck. Some of the best customer service we've encountered on this 6 week trip.!! Thanks, guys, for making a difficult situation easily solved. Would not hesitate to camp here again if in the area. read more

Wonderful experience is every respect. The owners Wendi and Marcel make it seem like visiting family. They have great advice for every activity you might want. Marcel was even willing to give us a ride into the park for our Mt Katahdin hike -- and pick us up. The bath house and laundry room is rustic but well kept and clean. Great pool and playground for the kids. There are activities like rafting that we plan to do on our next trip! read more
