Wandering up the ethnically diverse Upper Tooting Road, I had to rub my eyes twice when I spied…read moreAfters Original. The staff in this desserts restaurant looked Asian but the decor and bright pink theme is definitely American retro, down to the pink motorcycle in the window and the booth seating As it was a warm-ish day (in London, we have to take all the heat we cam get this summer!) and driven by my Yelp instinct to try new places in order to review them, I popped in. Their tag line on the shop window was "Because everybody likes dessert" and they've certainly tried to be all things to all men and women. The main thing which catches your eye when you step in is a large ice cream display with a healthy number of flavours to choose from. Interestingly, they also had kulfi, Indian ice cream on sale - not sure if this is just for the Tooting branch in order to keep in with local tastes The ice cream can be taken away in cones or tubs but is also available in a bewildering array of speciality ice cream creations including old favourites like Knickerbocker Glory. They also offer something I've only seen in the States so far - Cold Stone where they will mash in some additions to your favourite ice cream on a cold stone in order to enhance it. The ice cream can also go into milkshakes They also have a cake counter and I saw signs for waffles and also hot puddings like sticky toffee pudding On this occasion, I walked out with a single scoop of mango kulfi in a cone for a very reasonably priced £1.50. It was smooth but I could have done with mango flavour My mum loves ice cream and I may have to bring her here when she's next visiting from Malaysia to give it a proper try

The seats had massive holes in them and were in awful shape. We were given adequate time to decide what we wanted and we all ordered. Each ice cream came out one at a time which seemed slightly odd or maybe that's a good thing? I ordered the kids sundae thinking it would be small as I had just eaten dinner and was looking for something tiny to enjoy but I was in awe as the waitress handed me a massive sundae! I couldn't even finish it, how do they expect a child to finish it???!!! Apparently they do ubereats, I would like to see how that works next time.

I decided to book this restaurant after years of almost's buts and maybes for a Thursday night…read moreheading into a long bank holiday weekend. The staff were super friendly and helpful with the menu and took time to explain the specials to us. The decor feels classic American, and the food exceptional for the price point. We spent roughly £100 between two people for starters, mains and a bottle of wine. We ordered a broccoli and goats cheese dish for starter - it was sensational, also a wood pigeon dish which was cooked and seasoned very well. For mains we had a mackerel rillette and a steak with fries. The steak had perfectly rendered fat which was properly flamed, this gave it a nice crispy texture. Most places don't get this right. I'd most definitely return to this venue and am disappointed in myself for taking so long to visit - shame on me!

Amazing place! We…read moreoften go here for breakfast on a Sunday, and it is always really scrummy. (We also go for lunch and supper too!) The restaurant is gorgeous - lots of wood, very airy and beautifully set tables with white table cloths and 'proper' napkins! The service is impeccable, absolutely first rate. Friendly without being cloying, and extremely professional. The food is what keeps us coming back though. Imagine the absolute most fresh ingredients, cooked to perfection and served beautifully. The menu is pretty large and very varied, but everything is wonderful. I try loads of different things there because I have absolute faith that whatever I choose will be delicious. So, coming back to breakfast... the bacon is gorgeous, the mushrooms really tasty and the tomatoes are heaven. The bread is home made and the tea and coffee are lovely. It's also surprisingly reasonable, you definitely don't pay top prices, but you get top price service and food. Top tip - there is a small parking lot behind the restaurant with a barrier. Go in and park and they will give you a code to get out again after your meal.

Tartine has established itself on the Tooting High Street scene for a number of years now, and…read morefollowing on from it's success, opened a sister restaurant in Balham. This quaint 'Parisienne' café offers breakfast, brunch and lunch 7 days a week. The Morcoccan-Mediterrean food is what draws me back to Tartine, with the classic 'lamb merquez wrap' and 'meat mezze' always being the big hits. I have unfortunately always been disappointed by the coffee here. I've found that it's never strong enough, never warm and slightly too expensive for what is on offer. In the summer days, the cafe's opening hours are longer, and there is a small seating area outdoors. The main issue with this however, is that you are right on the busy main road (lots of traffic and ambulances whizzing past at all times of day), so it's actually nicer to sit inside away from the hussle and bussle of Tooting's main road. There is often a bit of a wait for a table as the place is very popular with all of Tooting's eclectic population, including students, doctors and yummy mummies (not quite sure where they come from). Tartine is a smart change from the usual type of food on offer in most of Tooting's restaurants, but will have to maintain it's quality with the increasing competition from other up and coming cafe's that are popping up all over Tooting.

Actually…read morethis is the only place that calls out on Tooting High Street that isn't a corner shop or curry house. In desperate need of coffee and breakfast I stumbled in at 8.30am to what looked like an empty café. Little did I know lurking behind the counter was a lovely gent who talked me though his pastries. Now I'm not going to call him a liar but I'm just going to say that those muffins looked suspiciously bought in. So I settled on their version of a pasty. For those of you who have eaten one of these in front of me will know "pasty's repeat themselves on you" for the next 48 hours. Me choosing this was due to lack of selection and need for a speedy decision. It wasn't a mistake. This greasy pastry parcel filled with goats cheese, spinach and tomato did not disappoint, the coffee was hot, smooth and had caffeine in it and it cost me less that 4 quid. All in all a winner. I have to love this place, the breads really do look amazing in the window and during peak brunch/lunch time it's packed with yummy mummys. The atmosphere is like Chelsea has arrived in tooting, with deep wood flooring and polite staff. I know, I know you won't believe me but Tooting really is up and coming!
