As an avid dessert fan, Afters certainly satisfies my guilty pleasure. The variety of dessert options is quite vast with a huge range of ice cream flavours, range of cakes (including waffles and crepes) and an impressive range of assortments combined together. The adult-sized portions of dessert are enough to satiate an insatiable hunger and the refreshingly fresh juices or smoothies are sufficient to quench an unquenchable thirst. Probably the most wise and rewarding choice to make would be to order a child-portion of dessert and a fresh fruit cocktail. Granted the desserts may not be as rich and delicate as you would find in some fine restaurants but if you want a fine dining experience you shouldn't be going to Afters in the first place. Here the atmosphere is lively, the music videos are entertaining, the desserts prepared well with eye-pleasing intent and delightful taste, and the variety on the menu is enough to leave you pondering over what to choose to no end.

It's also (small) dog-friendly so glad I brought my senior chihuahua to chill out. I got the prana masala chai latte with cashew and coconut milk to start. Honestly it was only ok. Not the most flavorful although lovely to look at. I always find chai without dairy milk is just never as good, sadly. The waiter got my order wrong- I ordered the Kumara rather than the corn fritters- but another staff member graciously took the plate away (although the fritters looked temptingly delicious!) As there was quite a long wait for the replacement, he offered a drink on the house so I got the antioxidant revive. It was bright pink, sweet and tasty. Once my dish arrived I was thrilled how good it was: a very generous arrangement of sweet potato/ feta and pumpkin seeds all tasted wonderful. I cleaned my plate. My friend got the avo bread as vegan so just as mashed avo and bread, and a matcha latte. Service otherwise was very good. I also got the vegan wrap for takeaway. I had it for lunch the next day and wow it was great! Really tasty mash of lentils and sweet potato and quite filling.

You know, in case you overindulge on this good food and need to go run it off. The vibe is quite chill and it's a perfect spot to grab a quick bite and some good coffee while getting some work done. They even have an outdoor patio out back that, weather permitting, guarantees a lovely meal. The fare is your quintessential cafe food with a bit of flair added in for good measure. The menu has everything from toasted wraps and sandwiches- the toasted Vegetarian Wrap has a Mediterranean twist that is both light & filling- salads, pastries, eggy breakfast dishes, including a delicious French Toast dish with hints of orange, cinnamon, vanilla mascarpone, and your choice of poached maple banana or streaky bacon, or both! Even the juices and smoothies are on point here, and there is no way you can go wrong with their Dairy-Free Chocolate Smoothie with cocoa, avocado, banana, Manuka honey, almond milk, and coconut water. The coffee, of course, is great, and they carry a Milo Nutella Iced Chocolate that is sure to knock your socks off. So go ahead, take a break from all that hustle & bustle, and enjoy some hearty food and sweet drinks.

Consequently, I have already sampled the majority of the range which mainly focusses on traditional Italian flavours (pistachio, hazelnut, vanilla etc) with a few influences from our US cousins (e.g. cookies & cream and peanut butter). For me, the pistachio gelato is pretty much perfect: silky smooth, with a powerful pistachio flavour. Eating it immediately evoked memories of a hot summer's day in Italy. By these high standards, the vanilla was something of a disappointment and did not pack the same level of flavour and the peanut butter was, for me, simply too sickly and not as refreshing as an ice cream should be. However, these small failings apart, it is still a fantastic luxury to have a gelateria of this quality in your neighbourhood and the queues out of the door on Sunday testified to its popularity with locals and visitors alike.

The price of a simple cone or cup was a little expensive for a small icy treat. Vanilla was tasty but not worth the price. Staff was friendly but curt considering they were just trying to serve everyone as quick as possible rather than take the time to explain their craft.

They have the standard Nutella, lemon and sugar fillings, but we decided to go for the salted caramel option for a change. The lady manning the crepe pans was very adept and efficient. I cringed a bit as I saw the amount of butter go into our crepe compared to some of the earlier ones (hint : the butter is the root of the salty taste in their salted caramel), but it was oh so tasty in the end. I heavily recommend the salted caramel crepes, but I have to warn you that they are a little tricky to eat when on the go. We constantly had sticky caramel squirting out with each bite (it was too yum to be content with just nibbling on it) Fortunately, the washrooms are right next to this stall, so you can wash up the mess on your fingers, face and tshirt. I just fancied a savoury crepe that day and so ordered the spinach, garlic, egg and cheese crepe (La Potagere. Everything about it was perfect and worth the garlic breath it left me. The crepe came out thin, eggy and bouncy. The stall holder seems to know what she was doing, being quick and skilful with the hot plate and throwing in the ingredients. The spinach was fresh so I could still crunch into it but cooked enough to be seasoned by the garlic. The addition of egg and cheese just held in that warmth and extra flavour it needed to make it the comfort food you need on a cold day. Delicious!
