This is a very authentic Polish bakery, right down the street from Polmart. Everything is made with real ingredients. No preservatives are used and the pastries and cakes they produce are heavenly.

In Italy, the word is "Nonnie" which just happens to be the name of an amazing Italian bakery we visited today. To be honest, calling Nonni's a "bakery" really shortchanges Grandma, because it is SO much more than that. Yes, of course they sell an incredible variety of beautifully crafted cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and cannolis, but you can also buy breakfast sandwiches, pizza, stromboli, arancino, stuffed breads, grinders, chicken cutlets and more. Their store is awesome, and you'll find yourself staring at their showcases and refrigerated cases. Service is top notch, with plenty of helpful and smiling folks helping you. We picked up an eclectic group of odds and ends - croissants, donuts, danishes, and a big arancini stuffed with meat and vegetables. We attacked that first as an appetizer with dinner, and it was terrific. I can't wait to sample the rest of their wares. PRO TIP Their Italian cookies look amazing, and we will definitely be back to supply our Thanksgiving dessert table with their Rainbow and Birthday Cake cookie cubes.

The Bread of Heaven Bakery turned out to be The Bread of Stale Bakery. I stopped in after…read morediscovering my favorite bakery was closed for vacation. There was a couple in front of me so I had time to check out the display cases and noticed most of the desserts were in plastic containers suggesting they probably were baked off premises (Waterbury?) and not particularly fresh. At this point I should have taken my business elsewhere, but a few breakfast baked goods resting on trays looked fresh so I ordered 2 turnovers, one each of strawberry and apple. On taking the turnovers out of the bag, I realized each was as hard as a rock, maybe even harder. Rather than trashing them immediately, I softened them in the oven, but after a few bites I realized the major problem was just a smear of jam was in each. The remainder are now residing in our garbage can.

It's been a long time since I've been in a straight up bakery! Walk into this one and you will be…read moregreeted with the begging aroma of fresh breads and goodies. There is a long, clean, and carefully laid out display case. It was such a treat to browse and gander at all the giant cookies and lovingly crafted pastries! I selected a cheese Danish and an apple turnover to enjoy with my husband after dinner. The girl who helped me was very nice and didn't mind naming the flavors of the turnovers for me so I could select the flavor I thought my husband would like best. $3.50 was my total for the two pastries, not bad at all. The flavors were phenomenal! Cheese Danish is one of my favorites and I savored every bite of this one! It was made perfectly and I couldn't make one suggestion on how to make it better! It was utterly heavenly (pun intended). My husband told me his turnover was really good, he definitely wasn't complaining! This is definitely a great bakery and a stop worth making!
