I've said it over and over again, but I think it bears repeating that we need more vegetarian restaurants in Metro Manila for those who want to adapt a healthy and non-meat diet. Since we herbivores and semi-vegetarians are hard-pressed for choices our go to places are Indian restaurants because they would always have a wide variety of vegetarian items to choose from. One of the most established Indian places in Metro Manila is Kashmir. It's branch in Pasay Road is one of my favorite restaurants in the metro, not only because the food is great, but it is also a cultural experience in itself. You gotta admit, it is interesting to be a little out of your comfort zone every once in a while.
I conquered my intimidation with Indian cuisine with the help of of Kashmir's great food. I have always loved the Adas, which is a creamy and rich lentil soup. Their adas has a generous handful of croutons that give it a nice texture. I also love the Masala Dosa or the spiced Indian version of a crepe, filled with mashed chickpeas, peas or potatoes and then served with a yummy garlicky sauce. I also love their Fukna, which is their version of the pani puri or gol guppe. Of course, they would have great curry, but even better is their wide assortment of breads to munch on with their spicy fare - puri, naan, chapati and roti chanai for daaays! My absoulte favorite, though, is still the vegetarian samosa, which they serve with a generous side of tamarind sauce. read more
