Any Persian, Levantine or Mediterranean place is actually quite a haven for vegetarians and vegans. You have your usual plant-based options on every menu, and quite frankly, items such as falafels, vegetable sambusas, hummus, tabbouleh and moutabal are non-negotiables in any respectable Persian place. Arya has been around for quite some time now,and I think it owes its success, not only to its stellar kebabs, but to the number of hot and cold appetizers (mezzeh) that it serves. It's a little pricier than most of the low-key Persian places, but at least I know that I get consistent quality and great service.
They also have a bunch of vegetarian curries and palak paneer that taste so good Their branch in Robinsons Manila always has a pleasant buzz to it owing to the number of Arab and Persian expats that stay in the hotels and lodging places in the nearby red light district. Go where the expats go, they say, because they recognize good taste, and while the Halal places around Malate are generally populated by the sketchy personas (so judgmental! ugh!), I find that the diners at Arya are more of a self-selecting and classy crowd. read more
