I felt uncomfortable from the moment I walked in. Communication was poor, and basic courtesy seemed to be lacking. It's important to feel respected and cared for--especially in a healthcare setting--and sadly, that wasn't the case here. I had a root canal that was not at all as I remembered them, and that was a major relief! This endo and his assistant (Monty and Dr. Galvan) were competent and trustworthy. I noticed that the front office was run well, too, and it just felt so much better than where I had been going. I made the switch right then. On subsequent visits, I met with the best dentist I have had in a long time, Dr. Christine Derosa. She is competent, personable, and she looked out for my finances while doing the right thing clinically. What a departure from my previous dentist office. The dental assistant and hygienist are also very personable and competent. What a joy to find a practice of this caliber. Thank you to all!

She frequently talked over me and cut me off before I could finish my questions or receive clear answers. That kind of interaction is frustrating and not what you expect from someone running the front office of a dental practice. There was also a communication issue during the appointment. The hygienist was not informed that I was receiving orthodontic treatment, so the cleaning was started without removing the braces first, which should have been addressed beforehand. That said, the back office staff was great. The hygienist was very informative and took time to educate me on proper care and how often certain treatments should be done. The doctor and orthodontic staff were also excellent--professional, knowledgeable, and pleasant. Overall, the clinical care itself was solid, but the front office experience and communication need improvement, as they set the tone for the entire visit.

When I first met Dr. Herndon, I was diagnosed with seven (yes, SEVEN) small cavities. Very weak enamel, remember? I was obviously frustrated as I don't consume soda, sweet tea, or sugary drinks, I brush my teeth twice daily, floss daily, and use enamel strengthening mouthwash post brushing. Dr. Herndon was gentle with her news and careful not to make me feel guilty or embarrassed. Even better, she filled my cavities in two separate visits, and came up with an entirely new dental care routine for me, including prescription tooth paste, to ensure I would never be in this position again. I looked that up, and it's not a hard rule. My history does have an abnormal X-ray at one point but was followed by an OMFS (for a full year) and was cleared. I'm not currently working full time, but wanted to keep my mouth healthy. I'm not sure if I'll return. I forgave them for accidentally giving my information to someone a year ago (HIPPA violation). Sadly, I was not treated with the same compassion.

I was referred out for an extraction. The extracting doctor felt the GVDA folks would make a…read moretemporary tooth. GVDA seemed to think the extractor would not extract without the temporary insert. Or maybe expected the extractor surgeon to create the "flipper" But turns out no one made anything. If you have an extraction on the calendar cancel it if no one has a temporary tooth to fit in the gap. This was a bad case of assuming. And we know what happens when folks assUme. I hope from here on out no one else will be left without a replacement tooth. To you young consumer of dental services all I can say is make sure there is a seamless transition with neither referring doctor or extracting doctor assuming the other has done what should have been done. Had I known there was no "flipper" I would have cancelled even though it would have meant wasting some PTO time. In the technical skill level sense everyone at GVDA was technically competent and met or exceeded all practice standards. Aside from this hiccup all care I received was superlative. The onus is on us as patients to trust but verify any prosthetic gets made PRIOR to a major dental surgery such as the one I had at Live Oak Periodontal.
