Today I stopped by karma which is a super cute earthy spa close to the Pacifica pier. I had a custom facial including a hydrafacial with a probiotic mask and reiki done by Marcella. The service was so relaxing (she has really gentle hands) and I loved the music (which you can request to change if you're not into the elevator spa music ), and the reiki which was my first time was such a beautiful and interesting experience (I could literally feel the energy moving through my body it was so cool!) 100 out of 10! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone! My skin felt so soft and smooth and my energy just felt recharged. She even recommended that I take a walk to the beach to release/charge my energy. Not sure the name of the specific type of wax used- but it's the hard wax only. Music is relaxing. Karen is alway professional. Karen & Marcella are wonderful! Opening their own business is a huge step - and I am so glad they did. Even though it is the old (and first?) Lotus location - it is completely redone and actually cut in half - completely unrecognizable! The colors are quiet and serene, the decor is simple and inviting and both rooms reflect each ones personality. They are still in the beginning stages - finishing up decorating, getting the website up, menus to arrive, etc - but I think it is still a great time to call and book a treatment! Yes, it is appointment only due to not having a receptionist but as long as you book it and arrive on time - there is no issue. I even got there like 10 minutes early :) The door may be locked if only one is there just for safety issues - but just wait a minute - someone will come. Recommended by my cousin, I had a great experience as a first timer here. I'm very very particular with my eyebrows, so I couldn't try just anybody. I text for an appt for an eyebrow wax and got a response the same day. As soon as you enter their spot it's really inviting and tranquil. I was greeted by Karen and she kindly explained the process. She gave me their extensive skin history form, understandable, and I never felt rushed or anything. All throughout the process Karen was kind and kept great conversation. She used hard wax for my eyebrows (which was a first). She would explain what she was doing and why, and I never once felt uncomfortable. She even "zapped" my skin afterwards to help close my pores since I'm Prone to breakouts. I have been a client of Marcella's for probably 10 years now and can't believe I have never written a review on Yelp!! The fact that I've been a client for 10 years says it all. I get my eyebrows waxed every two weeks and facials periodically. I had one this past Friday and it was THE best facial I have ever had! I love the products she uses and I am so relaxed when she is done. If I need to have a service done and Marcella is on vacation I have no problem going to Karen. Both Marcella and Karen are wonderful at what they do! Within the last year, they have added Christina who does the best pedicures on the planet!! My feet and toes look wonderful when she is done. On Mother's Day this year a member of the Pacifica Mother's Club sent out information about a contest being held at Karma Wellness Boutique. On a whim I wrote an essay about the way my mother helped me raise my son and the closeness we share. The essay won the contest and the prize was a spa day shared together. Today my mother and I indulged in this special treat. The ladies at Karma are a beautiful pair of girls who have been best friends since they were 12 years old. When my mother and I walked into the spa beautiful treats including sweet pastries, fresh fruits, cheese and crackers were waiting for us to share. Delicious teas were served alongside for us to share. My mom and I visited and then we were on to our treatments. We each received a "I have good karma" facial. The experience was amazing. This treatment included massage and aromatherapy unlike any I've ever experienced. I'm writing this to recommend this special retreat in Pacifica. In the past my mother has gone to San Francisco on a regular basis and today she and I decided we should keep it closer to home. read more

So my goal was to find an all-in-one spot for waxing (brow, lip, braz) and skin care and I was getting sorta tired of going cafeteria-style with my routine (1 place for eyebrows, another for skin care, etc.) and I wanted a place close to home, ya know, support local and all...enter Yelp and Karma WB. I booked a facial with Marcella and was pretty satisfied: super relaxing (the hand mitts, reiki, etc.), nice products used, skin left pretty and glowing. Though they didn't have an extensive clinical-grade menu of treatments I'd like, I thought it was a good refresher for my skin. I had also asked if she could squeeze in a little bit of brow-clean up, but just a bit because I got overzealous tweezing and one was a little bit thinner and I would wait a few weeks for growing them out. She did exactly as I asked, was super nice and professional. I book a brow and lip for a few weeks later, but get a call from Karen a day or so before the appointment letting me know Marcella couldn't make it. No big deal at all, except that Karen called me while I was at work, and I had temporary amnesia when she said, "This is Karen from Karma". I was like, "Karma?" (I was at work, land of anti-spa, my brain was totally in a different place). And she sounded a bit put off by the fact that Karma Wellness boutique was not at the forefront of my memory. Sheesh, my bad. Anyhoo, my brow/lip appt. gets pushed a few days out, which worked out fine. My brows and lip seemed good when I checked in the mirror really quick before I left the spa...and then I got home and looked in my obnoxiously glaring bathroom lights. My brows were not horrendous, they were even and not overwaxed, but I wished they were sharper and cleaner, since I had waited for my brows to grow in a bit for a new brow canvas to work with, which I had explained. There looked like there was little, if nothing done to the area above the brows, even though I know she went over the area. And there were lots of lip strays...lots. And I don't have coarse facial hair (thank goodness). Marcella had used the type of wax that hardens and doesn't need a muslin, and I think that this contributed to the ineffectiveness of the wax. The toughest thing to swallow was that the brow/lip wax was $35...way more than I spend for my cheapie but goodie place on the other side of the hill. I still left a generous rating because of my first good experience with the facial, but I don't think I'll be returning, because for the price, I' personally prefer a more clinical facial than a relaxing one, and a waxing that's worth the $. read more

I have been seeing Marcella for monthly facials and waxing since she was working at Lotus. When I heard that Lotus was changing ownership, I was ecstatic to see that Karen and Marcella were branching out on their own. Karma Wellness Boutique has a modern look, but warm atmosphere. I normally see Marcella for facials, Brazilians, and occasionally brows. I also bring my mom to see Karen for facials as a special treat. My facials are a ritual that I look forward to all month; they are my reward for going through with the Brazilian. (Which Marcella makes as painless and comfortable as it can be...) Marcella creates a relaxing experience and I often find that I'm close to falling asleep by the time we are done. In addition to the stress relief, my skin looks amazing. I've done two rounds of microdermabrasion and love the results. I trust Marcella's opinion on all of my skin needs and I never feel pressured to buy products or services. I have been going here for almost a year now. It's always so relaxing and such a great reward after long month of hard work. Marcella has been amazing. She is accommodating, kind, sweet and very knowledgeable. In the past, weird pimple happened just one part of my face and I couldn't get rid of it. I asked Marcella, She gave me an answer right away (it was caused by old makeup) and she treated it in the right way. This is just tiny example. I trust her with all my facial problem and I would not dear go see another specialist. (well, I did, actually couple times, just to compare with Marcella. None of them even can be on the same level with her!). She always gave me such a relaxing massage during facial and it puts me to sleep. I kind of wish she can do full body massage for me:) All of my products at home are from Marcella now. I mean, why do you even bother trying other products if the best tells you that hers work perfectly and they do!! A year after now, my skin looks so radiant than before. My huge pores with dark spots are gone. I have occasional break out due to my time of work, but I go see Marcella and it's like it was never there.
