A Truly Extraordinary Boutique & An Even More Extraordinary Owner I've been shopping at Karma for more than 15 years, and in all that time I've never encountered another boutique--or another human--quite like Phuni, the remarkable woman who owns and runs it. She is kind, inspirational, incredibly talented, and has an eye for style that feels almost magical. When I first wandered into Karma all those years ago, I remember thinking the clothes felt a bit expensive for me. What I quickly learned is that the quality is far beyond anything you find elsewhere. Every piece I've purchased has become something I wear joyfully for years. They hold up beautifully, they feel amazing, and I'm constantly stopped by people asking where I got them. Truly, each item ends up paying for itself in longevity and happiness. One of the best parts of shopping here is that Phuni knows me--my style, my size, what flatters me, and what will make me feel wonderful. She regularly brings me pieces I never would have even glanced at, and they end up being the exact things I fall in love with. Last year she suggested a jacket I never would've tried; I wore it - with a fabulous scarf and woven tote bag I also got at Karma, in NYC, snapped a rare selfie because it looked so good, and a woman on the subway stopped to tell me I looked adorable! Phuni also dressed me completely for the night before my daughter's wedding, and the outfit was so special. I continue to wear each piece with joy. In fact, I've asked my husband to skip the flowers for Mother's Day and my birthday-- instead I spend it at Karma. Shopping with Phuni is such a gift in itself. It's not just the clothing, either. I've found beautiful jewelry, scarves, bags, and truly meaningful gifts here. And what makes it even better is that Phuni sources everything she can ethically, sustainably, and through Fair Trade, supporting many women‑owned businesses, including artisans overcoming tremendous challenges such as sex trafficking. Her values are woven into every item she brings into the shop, and you can feel that integrity the moment you walk in. If you read her story (and you absolutely should), you'll understand why this place feels special from the inside out: https://www.cometokarma.com/about. Karma is one of my all‑time favorite places to shop, not just for the clothes but for the warmth, spirit, and generosity of the extraordinary woman behind it. If you're thinking of visiting, don't hesitate. You might walk in for clothes, but you'll walk out feeling seen, uplifted, and beautiful. Highly, highly recommended. read more

Phuni made my husband and I feel so special when coming into her store. She was so sweet and caring and it made a wonderful buying experience! Her store is beautiful and calming. I had accidentally left my debit card and she took time out of her day to come deliver it to me at my home! I will absolutely be a lifetime customer from my experience at Karma! Thank you Phuni for everything! read more

My sister and I bought a gorgeous necklace for our sister's birthday. She loved it. Great place.

I have been in 'Karma' a couple of times..I just want to let people know my wonderful experience there, not only the vibe is so calming but I was immediately stuck by the stories behind every items. Employee there also does great amount of justice to their artists by sharing those stories. Without further ado Karma's idea of cultivating love through such a unique time is quite moving and inspirational. read more

My husband first discovered Karma over ten years ago and we have been shopping here ever since. While the merchandise is stunning, it's the story behind each piece that makes this place so special. Phuni works with artisans who are socially conscious, and she is a woman who supports other women in business and in life. Phuni connects with all of her clients and has brought a network of people together into her fold, into her family. We are at the point now where my husband comes in to purchase a piece for a birthday, anniversary, whatever, and he simply leaves it to Phuni. She puts aside pieces that she knows I will love as they come in ~ and she does this for everyone! She believes in the 'story' of each piece and that each item belongs in a specific place, being worn by a specific person. Phuni is truly a gift, a one-of-a-kind business owner who believes with all of her heart that we are all a part of something so much bigger than ourselves, that in face we really are just walking each other home... xxoo read more

inspiring, stunning, good for my heart & fashion! Phuni & her brother have a lovely shop of fine crafts ... reasonably priced and sustainably made. Just discovered this shop today upon friend's referral. Will return often. Highly, highly recommend! read more

Just recently opened in Newton Center this small shop of cultural goods, jewelry, ornaments, antiques and handmade tapestries is a true gem. From India and Tibet primarily, the goods possess a uniqueness, charm, and are all quite treasures. A little pricey, but certainly worth your visit. Upon entering, your instantly removed from Newton Center, and transported to the beauty, culture, art and tradition of these countries. read more

I have been a loyal and inspired customer and friend of the Karma family since they first opened the shop and offered me a cup of tea when I entered. I've purchased beautiful gifts over the years for people I love and for myself! The items are carefully curated, and I never leave without the benefit of a lovely connection with the anyone who is working there. This is a very special place--more than a shop, it is a community-- and it brings me so much pleasure to support them. read more

I have visited Karma several times and each time I felt like I was transported to another realm. I feel at peace every time I walk through the door. The light is muted, the music is intoxicating, and the merchandise is exquisite and unique. There is not one ugly item in the store, a rarity. The shop owner is friendly and it is clear through speaking with her that she loves people and she loves her shop. Most of the items are fairly pricy, as they should be, considering they are made by artists and artisans, and from high quality materials. This latest visit I came in looking for something symbolic to mark a milestone in my life and, after a pleasant search through the shop, I found the perfect thing, a whimsical set of wire-wrought fish earrings. There is something magical about Karma. Come in and take a look for yourself. You will not be disappointed. read more

Karma in Newton Centre is one of my absolute FAVORITE stores!! It is my GO TO for gifts, and splurges for myself :). Pretty much every piece of jewelry that I wear is from Karma! I love everyone who works there and feel a warm welcome whenever I am shopping. During COVID it has been a bright spot in my day to go in and experience a feeling of escape, as I browse all of the unique and diverse items that Karma has to offer. They are very knowledgeable about what they sell and so helpful when deciding about gifts or what I am looking to buy for myself. It is so fun to shop in there that I can easily spend a few hours and not even realize it! I HIGHLY recommend Karma. Go check it out! read more

I have shopped at Karma since it opened in Newton Center. Every time I enter the shop, I fall in love all over again: with the beautiful merchandise, with the warm, welcoming greeting from either the owner or her assistants. The only problem I ever have is in deciding which beautiful thing I will perhaps purchase: for myself, for a gift, for a friend . I am always so glad and grateful this lovely oasis exists. You will be too! read more

I first met the owner Phuni of Karma Newton around 10 years ago, and was captivated by the exotic and unique offerings associated with indian and buddhist art, as I had become involved with indian forms of spirituality 33 years ago. In the last 4 months I rediscovered Karma, and first bought a special silver pendant and chain, with one of the 8 auspicious signs of Buddhism representing purified consciousness on one one side, and a carving of Ganeshji, the Hindu god with the head of an elephant on the other side, and associated with the removal of obstacles...an appropriate combination! Then in addition, I purchased a unique large Thai Buddha in the Sukkothai style....As i am disabled, Phuni personally delivered the statue to my home. Karma is not only a unique store, but it is stamped by the indelible imprint of Phuni's charming personality. Come explore this wonderland in Newton Center! read more

This is a gorgeous space, filled with carefully curated treasures... I have bought many beautiful pieces from Phuni over many years and although I am not able to come as often as I used to, I make a point to come whenever I am in town. Phuni's love for the artists, artisans, for the people, for her clients, is palpable and real. If you need a specialty signature piece, a gift that anyone would love, or just a dive into an environment of pure beauty and true heart and spirit, with a love for diverse cultures... you'll find it all here... still my favorite store anywhere. Beautiful goods, loving attentive and intelligent service, you can't do better than Karma. read more

I so appreciated shop owner's comment and was lured back inside by the beuatiful things and had a wonderful experience. I wish all businesses had the same set of priorities. Thank you. read more

Beautiful items in many price ranges. Unique items and jewelry!! I love the ecelctic inventory. Some pricier items but worth visiting.

Terrible customer service. I tried to exchange my present, which turned into one of the worst experiences I've ever had. The owner was extremely rude and aggressive, and talked down to me. While I was standing right there with my daughter, the owner starting talking about us on the phone, saying things like "I've never had such rude customers, I can't even believe them". I simply left the store - "Bad karma". read more

One of Newton's--and the state's--best and most unique businesses! I've been in love with Karma since I first stepped foot inside it four years ago. Karma's gorgeous jewelry, colorful textiles, handbags, furniture, pottery, sculpture, etc. are all a feast for the eyes. This fabulous mix of crafts from Tibet, India, Nepal, the US, and other parts of the world all come with a story of cultural tradition and a message of social justice. Everything in Karma is handmade and fairly traded. Karma gets its crafts directly from craftspeople and intermediaries committed to fair trade practices, social justice, and human rights. It connects the shopper to a larger experience and purpose. What distinguishes Karma from many other shops is not only its range of one-of-a-kind, fairly traded products, but also the shopping and cultural experience it offers. The shop's owner, Phuni, is one of the kindest, most genuine people around. Whether you buy an elegant gold ring, a colorful, fifteen dollar jewelry box, or nothing at all, Phuni gives you the same customer service and warmth, every time. As a customer, that is invaluable to me. She connects effortlessly with people (she remembered my face and name the second time I visited her shop), exuding tranquility while at the same time showing a heartfelt enthusiasm for her work. She is always happy to offer fashion tips or tell the story behind the crafts in her store, a conversation that often becomes more profound--whether it's about supporting women's cooperatives that help to transform communities; or raising funds for a primary school in rural Tibet; or advocating for social justice here in the US. At the same time, she and her staff are always good at giving visitors their space, and as much time as they need to look around--no pressure at all. Do not miss Karma! Variety and quality of the crafts? A. Customer service? A. "Feel" of the store? A. Whenever I wear the jewelry I've purchased at Karma, people of all ages (from teenagers to older folks) ask me about where I bought it. My Karma purchases are beautiful pieces that won't ever go out of style--and as a fashion-loving, 30-something year old, that's a big deal. As the economy stays sluggish and the holiday season approaches, I believe that it's important to support family-owned, socially responsible businesses like Karma. Buying a great piece of jewelry or a cute wallet feels good, but it feels even better to buy them from a place that has a social conscience and a big heart. read more

I have purchased several items from the store and Have mixed feelings about the store. The jewelry are beautiful, no doubt. Some of them are really unique and can not be found anywhere else, but some of them can be purchased much cheaper on the internet. However, the customer service can be better. They have young girl working there and she is amazing! She always tries to help and she is very sweet and polite. The owner, older woman, is very rude and arrogant. On many occasions I came and found the store closed during regular business hours. Once, I waited for 15 minutes and when she finally showed up she just shrugged her shoulders. On another occasion I came in on hot summer afternoon, there was nobody in the store, the Newton Center was the dead zone, everybody were on the Cape. I was on the phone with the friend, buying a present for our mutual girlfriend from two of us. The owner informed me as soon as I walked into the door that she does not allow cell phones in here. I understand, it is her shop- her rules, but I doubt I will patronage her store any more. read more

To enter Karma is to enter something more than a retail shop; it is to enter a sanctuary. Karma is a haven from the commonplace new age jewelry shop: no trinkets, imitations, or kitsch. Authenticity abounds; the atmosphere is suffused with the lost spirit of Tibetan and Indian culture. As though I had been personally invited into their home, the staff was warm, genuine, and always willing to help me find my desired purchase. read more

I have been shopping at Karma for years and have come to feel as though I'm, "part of the family". Every time I walk through the doors, I feel as though I am the person all have been waiting to see all day. All of the items in the store are beautiful and chosen with care from socially conscious artisans from all over the world. Of particular note is the jewelry - I am not exaggerating when I tell you that the ONLY jewelry I wear these days is from this boutique. My husband even knows that for any occasion - anniversary, birthday, etc. the only place to go for me is Karma! While some of the pieces are definitely out of my price range, I am NEVER made to feel 'bad' about that and staff is always happy to help me find items that are more affordable. I love the merchandise but more importantly, I love the people and the message this boutique sends. I cannot recommend Karma highly enough. read more
