She is kind, inspirational, incredibly talented, and has an eye for style that feels almost magical. When I first wandered into Karma all those years ago, I remember thinking the clothes felt a bit expensive for me. What I quickly learned is that the quality is far beyond anything you find elsewhere. Every piece I've purchased has become something I wear joyfully for years. They hold up beautifully, they feel amazing, and I'm constantly stopped by people asking where I got them. Truly, each item ends up paying for itself in longevity and happiness. Karma in Newton Centre is one of my absolute FAVORITE stores!! It is my GO TO for gifts, and splurges for myself :). Pretty much every piece of jewelry that I wear is from Karma! I love everyone who works there and feel a warm welcome whenever I am shopping. During COVID it has been a bright spot in my day to go in and experience a feeling of escape, as I browse all of the unique and diverse items that Karma has to offer. They are very knowledgeable about what they sell and so helpful when deciding about gifts or what I am looking to buy for myself. I first met the owner Phuni of Karma Newton around 10 years ago, and was captivated by the exotic and unique offerings associated with indian and buddhist art, as I had become involved with indian forms of spirituality 33 years ago. In the last 4 months I rediscovered Karma, and first bought a special silver pendant and chain, with one of the 8 auspicious signs of Buddhism representing purified consciousness on one one side, and a carving of Ganeshji,the Hindu god with the head of an elephant on the other side, and associated with the removal of obstacles...an appropriate combination! Then in addition, I purchased a unique large Thai Buddha in the Sukkothai style....As i am disabled, Phuni personally delivered the statue to my home. I have visited Karma several times and each time I felt like I was transported to another realm. I feel at peace every time I walk through the door. The light is muted, the music is intoxicating, and the merchandise is exquisite and unique. There is not one ugly item in the store, a rarity. The shop owner is friendly and it is clear through speaking with her that she loves people and she loves her shop. Most of the items are fairly pricy, as they should be, considering they are made by artists and artisans, and from high quality materials. This latest visit I came in looking for something symbolic to mark a milestone in my life and, after a pleasant search through the shop, I found the perfect thing, a whimsical set of wire-wrought fish earrings. Terrible customer service. I tried to exchange my present, which turned into one of the worst experiences I've ever had. The owner was extremely rude and aggressive, and talked down to me. While I was standing right there with my daughter, the owner starting talking about us on the phone, saying things like "I've never had such rude customers, I can't even believe them". I have purchased several items from the store and Have mixed feelings about the store. The jewelry are beautiful, no doubt. Some of them are really unique and can not be found anywhere else, but some of them can be purchased much cheaper on the internet. However, the customer service can be better. They have young girl working there and she is amazing! She always tries to help and she is very sweet and polite. The owner, older woman, is very rude and arrogant. On many occasions I came and found the store closed during regular business hours. Once, I waited for 15 minutes and when she finally showed up she just shrugged her shoulders. On another occasion I came in on hot summer afternoon, there was nobody in the store, the Newton Center was the dead zone, everybody were on the Cape. I was on the phone with the friend, buying a present for our mutual girlfriend from two of us. The owner informed me as soon as I walked into the door that she does not allow cell phones in here. I understand, it is her shop- her rules, but I doubt I will patronage her store any more. read more

I have been shopping at Karma for years and have come to feel as though I'm, "part of the family". Every time I walk through the doors, I feel as though I am the person all have been waiting to see all day. All of the items in the store are beautiful and chosen with care from socially conscious artisans from all over the world. Of particular note is the jewelry - I am not exaggerating when I tell you that the ONLY jewelry I wear these days is from this boutique. My husband even knows that for any occasion - anniversary, birthday, etc. the only place to go for me is Karma! While some of the pieces are definitely out of my price range, I am NEVER made to feel 'bad' about that and staff is always happy to help me find items that are more affordable.
