Well at first, the ones I tried kept me coming back! Now I know to show up early, and get my dozen. There is something that sets this place apart. Karen's Donuts like the inside picture depicts is a pretty straight-forward donut shop. It has relatively easy access and there is ample parking. This is a cash only business. I had my Apple Fritter and coffee. The coffee was on the milder side, but it wasn't watered down. The Apple Fritter, see pic, was about the same diameter as others but was about half as thick as others. This fritter was crunchier, but not over cooked. It had the expected apple filling and sweet glaze. While we enjoyed our Apple Fritter there, it seemed to us that several "regulars" came in and we saw several Maple Bars (as well as Apple Fritters) being sold - FYI. read more

I'm not sure what it is about this place's donuts, but they're definitely made differently. They look exactly the same as any other standard donut shop, but they taste...gosh, I don't know. Fresh? Not as oily? I really can't put my finger on it, but they're really really good! I highly recommend. The only bad thing is that they don't take anything but cash. Womp womp. But that's not the reason for the star reduction. I prefer to have really unique/different donuts like Blue Star donuts does up in Portland, OR. I like trying new flavors, which isn't found here. Solid mom and pop donut shop. I usually stop in around 10 to reverse the effects of my morning workout and there is still a small variety of fresh donuts to choose from. Cake donuts are crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, ham and cheese croissants are flaky with good quality ingredients. It's all about the old-fashioned glazed doughnut. Karen's doughnuts are good and would give Krispy's a serious run for the money if they were warm. The doughnut tastes fresh and more hearty than a typical shop. But I also notice they don't keep a large inventory of doughnut's. The high turnover may explain some of the freshness, but there is something about the dough too. Karen's is definitely worth a stop. read more

This is the best place for donuts around this area. I am always trying new places that I see or that open. None of them can compete. I'm baffled by only a 4 star rating. Most of the low ratings complain about the cash only policy or that they are rude. If you are looking for good donuts and don't mind cash then these are the best I have found in the area. My family loves them. I take them to work regularly. No one else's donuts are as good. They are not overly heavy or greasy and they are not excessively sweet. They are hard workers in the store and they work their butts off. And they get swamped at times while they make and sell the donuts. So I can get over if they seem curt at times. i bought jalapeno ham and cheese croissants the other day it was cooked and unopened sandwich I did really like it. I went back today and bought the same but I guess they don't have it so the lady prepared it herself sliced it and inserted the ham cheese and jalapeño. I pass this way early in the morning on my way to go trail running, so I appreciate the fact that they open early, although currently (July 5, 2022), they have a sign saying they temporarily have different hours and aren't opening until 5:30. There's no rush to get what you need and go; you can take your time to peruse what's available - which, by the by, is a great selection - and no one would fault you. It's a very chill place. It's a warm store that's kept quite clean despite its age. The owners are really professional and quick to get what you ask for. Today I actually got to speak with the lady who works there, and I can safely say that she and her husband are very friendly, good-humored individuals. I've seen family working there frequently, and while it's clearly a family business, they really seem invested in what they do. They constantly put out quality goods. The donuts themselves are fresh, fluffy, well textured and soft. There's no dry crunch of day old donuts here! The glaze is sweet and melts in your mouth; the chocolate is unlike most other donut places in that it's sweet, but not cloyingly so; the maple is smooth and sugary; the fritters are like a sweet taste of Oak Glen and the cinnamon rolls are soft and tear easily. The cake donuts are filling with a myriad of toppings and flavors, the buttercream are perfect - I haven't tried all the donuts, but I've never been disappointed. It's worth noting they don't accept credit cards. There's an ATM machine available, but make sure to bring cash! Their prices are reasonable ($1.45 for an apple fritter!) and you will definitely get what you pay for. If you need a quick morning fix and you're in the area, give Karen's Donuts a try. Not to mention I didn't know she wasn't going to accept card until at the register and she points to a tiny sign hiding in the corner about "cash only". The donuts here are just all around disgusting. I've been here 2x and both have been complete let downs. The doughnuts have a very oily texture/flavor and I don't care what they say it isn't fresh oil. We had a white sprinkle doughnut and a ham a cheese croissant. The sprinkle doughnut was for my son who spit it out after the first bite. the croissant was just cut open and they place cheap ham and a slice of cheese in it. Definitely NOTHING special just poorly made. 2nd time we went earlier in the day because maybe it was just old a doughnut the first time. NOPE it was just as disgusting as the first time. I got a chocolate sprinkle and a dozen holes. The holes were so oily and because of course they're cold it was cold oil that sat in them. The glass didn't even go on half of the holes. Each had a very light drizzle of glaze. It was so nasty. The chocolate was just as gross. We ended up tossing it all.
