Excellent restaurant! Very attentive service and friendly staff with a sense of pride toward their food. I enjoyed the perch. Perfectly cooked with excellent sides! My husband had the liver dish and said it was the best liver he's ever had! Highly recommended this spot. It is an old restaurant as well with a rich history!

Kappeli is set in a beautiful building from the 1800's. The surrounding glass windows and chandeliers make it a very romantic setting. The service was on point. All three people assisting our table were kind and friendly. We started with a salmon appetizer. The salmon was raw, fatty and oh so delicious! My daughter ordered the reindeer roast. She said it was tasty, not gamey; however, she thought it was way too dry to eat. I had the smoked salmon as my main dish. It was good, but I preferred the appetizer. Our dessert was like a blueberry cake/crumble. It was very light and not too sweet. If you are in Helsinki, this is a must dine restaurant.

Kappeli restaurant has been in the same spot since 1867, and it looks like they have not missed a beat in all these years. In our first visit to Helsinki, we walked by this lovely restaurant, skimmed the menu and made reservations. The food was delicious, the building is beautiful and our service was fastidious. My husband ordered the seared salmon. It was served with mashed potatoes, root vegetables and an unusual sauce, licorice maybe? My salad consisted of mixed greens and watercress with shaved onions, shaved pickled onions, small spicy peppers, pumpkin seeds and baby carrots. I ordered the reindeer steak and reindeer sausages, which were served with mashed potatoes and root vegetables. The dessert was especially amazing: lemon cake with fresh and dried strawberries, topped with rhubarb sorbet. Fabulous!

Just along from the harbour nestles this wonderful restaurant. A restaurant of times gone by. So easy to imagine the writers, poets and artists of old Finland sitting there with a cup of coffee thinking about their next piece of work. We popped in for a coffee and inside was going back generations as it hadn't changed. Great service from wonderful, helpful, staff and the coffee was delicious. I managed to avoid buying one of their beautiful pastries. Next time, maybe. Lovely selection of various offerings of main meals which were being purchased at an alarming rate. This proves how good they were. Looking forward to our next visit to Helsinki and this restaurant will be a definite return visit.

Fantastic restaurant and cafe near the harbour square and close to the water. The prices were high though service was fantastic and spot on. I felt very cared for. Food was of high quality and delicious. Very rich in flavor. They had an outdoor patio for smoking with many tables. The cafe had many pastry choices and WC available for guests. We went by earlier and saw the plentiful amount of guests. I would highly recommend as a date experience or special experience as the meal was expensive but for us worth it. The wine too was well paired and delicious.

Large cappuccino and it was delicious.

We stopped for early morning coffee and it was great. There aren't many cafes open early Saturday morning so we felt fortunate to find Kappeli and take a break on our city exploration.

I liked the food choices. There was live music outside while we dined. It was a treat but was also a tad bit loud.

Great quiche. Had to ask them to warm it twice tho but it was delicious. Very nice cafe right in the city center

Our boutique hotel recommended this restaurant which was close and still open at 9:00. We were greeted by a very nice older woman whose name was something like Paiva. There is a dining room with big beautiful windows overlooking the Esplanadi Park. It is elegant with high ceilings and whimsical architectural details but not stuffy or formal. There is also a cafe, a bar and outdoor seating. The food is Finnish and very good. We had salmon soup which is like a milk-based buttery chowder. We also had the pan fried fish with veggies which was excellent too. Every appetizer and dessert we tried was very tasty. The waiter was very professional and friendly. She was from Nepal. It is an historic place that still is extremely well run. Don't miss it while you are in Helsinki!

Super pretty design that gives it a nice vibe. Enjoy your pastries, salmon soup, or coffee in the middle of the park that offers nice views of the harbor. Apparently this place is the best known for their salmon soup. Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to try it. Instead, I got carrot cake and iced latte. Carrot cake was good and latte was good. Nothing amazing. I expected a little better since it was pricey. Either way, cute place!

Pastries. We tried the pastry of the day which was very good
    Milli B.

The ambiance was really nice! Lots of windows that let natural light in. Very clean and well kept. The servers were pleasant and very welcoming. We tried the reindeer with mashed potatoes, this was kind of simple meal with good flavor. It was an easy dish to eat. The citrus shrimp salad tasted fresh and light. Later we moved to the cafe side to have coffee and try the pastry of the day. We went around noon so it was not very busy

A very fitting city for having coffee with desserts and snacks - 2 of 2…read more Fazer, or Karl Fazer, is one of the best known coffeehouse and dessert places in the Finnish capital. It appears there might be more than one location, with a few being almost too close to each other. I was trying to figure out which one is the main location. Once you find it, you will know that this is the feather in the cap of the Fazer brand. This Fazer coffeehouse is not just about getting something warm to drink and eat. It's an experience. This is a large Art Deco cafe' where they didn't skimp on decking out the exterior and the interior to be true to the genre and, of the places to sit, I wound up seating under a slightly domed glass ceiling that was beautiful, so it was no wonder I gravitated toward that part of the interior. They sell coffee, tea, and cakes, but also have sandwiches, chocolate, candy, and more. There are more bins and shelves with goods than you'd expect in a coffeehouse. They were slightly crowded a little later in the evening, but not excessively so. The service here was a little more curt than that at Roasberg, but they got the job done. I had a slice of berry flavored cake and a cup of decaf coffee since it was a little later in the evening. As soon as I saw Fazer's exterior and went inside, I knew that it would be a little more expensive. It's your job to restrain yourself and not treat it like a restaurant with a series of courses, instead opting for a hot drink and something sweet or savory. If the service was a little more upbeat and the prices were slightly more reasonable, it would get 5 stars from me. However, with what I drank and ate being good and with this being such a unique experience, it easily gets 4 stars. I'd gladly return if in this city again and I recommend visiting this landmark coffeehouse.

When you walk in you are greeted by a display case that shows an array of parties and cake slices. Staff was very friendly. I didn't spend much time browsing as I only had my eye on the prize- passion fruit cheesecake! Unlike an American style cheesecake, this had the texture of a mousse with a thin crust. The passion fruit flavor was lovely and a real treat. Can't wait to go back and try more items.

Sävy was a short walk, and the coffee shop I found that opened the earliest. Though it's listed as being open at 7:30, they actually open at 8am. I showed up at 7:47, and happily waited the extra 13 minutes until they invited me in. (What else am I going to fucking do with 13 minutes?). I ordered a breakfast combo that included a croissant, granola/yogurt bowl, and upgraded my coffee drink to a double cappuccino. The barista asked me what perfume I was wearing because apparently I smelled good. I remarked that it may have been the woman ahead of me, but it happened to be the dude's girlfriend, so he was pretty sure it wasn't her. I wasn't wearing a fragrance but the air BnB had a Linden Blossom bath wash...anyways. I was feeling good about smelling good even though I felt like shit. I digress I was stupid hungry, so I demolished that croissant before my coffee drink and granola bowl was ready. It was buttery, flaky, fresh and delicious. "On point" as the kids say. I was too tired to remember to order oat milk with my coffee, so I drank it with whole milk. It was rich, and chocolately like I like my coffee drinks. I might pay for the whole milk later, but it couldn't be worse than the airline food I had yesterday. So fuck it. The granola bowl with yogurt was legit. Breakfast here just hits different. The presentation was great, and it had the perfect ratio of fruit, honey, and cinnamon. I had a little more time to kill so I ordered another single cappuccino with oatmilk this time (internally convincing myself it would offset the whole milk drink) it was also delicious. Additionally, they have a pretty dope music playlist, wi-fi, and cool art on the walls. I'll be coming back every morning until my stay here is up. Kiitos, Sävy

A very fitting city for having coffee with desserts and snacks - 1 of 2…read more I found photos for this business - Roasberg, a coffeehouse - from my 3 day "layover" here. I felt I could put a review together for having visited this location. Before arriving to Helsinki, you make a short list of typical area food, good deals on food, and coffeehouses. Of the latter, there are easily 5 to 10 coffeehouses and you might not visit all of them. Roasberg ought to make that list and it's one of the easiest ones to visit because the main train station - brace yourself: Rautatientori - and this coffeehouse are visually connected, albeit some two blocks apart. Some of the trams that pass in front of the station round a bend in front of Roasberg. I just needed something to eat to tide me over ... or not. I'd decide on whether to eat more later on. I went in to Roasberg and selected a panino like sandwich with deli meats from those in the glass case and drip coffee (which they bill as filtered coffee). Everything was fine. This Nordic country is possibly the easiest to visit because the Euro is their currency. That said, it's quick to deduce from the menu board that the prices are fair. The service was a little perfunctory. However, that's standard because there is no effusiveness anywhere in and around Helsinki, so customer service experiences are actually very predictable. I was almost going to go with 3 stars for Roasberg but then looked ... and looked ... at some of the ornate slices of chocolate cake others had bought and of which they shared photos. I know that that would push my experience to 4 stars, perfunctory service or otherwise. With waterways, evergreens, overcast skies, Nordic DNA, and a lower decibel level than in the south of Europe, the vibe can run a lot like that of Seattle. With such ingredients, you can join others savoring the quiet experience of a Finnish coffeehouse, and possibly being depressed to go along with that, and turn those lemons into lemonade by being a happy camper doing this. I wouldn't say Roasberg is stellar, but it is reliable. Moreover, if coffee and a dessert, or a sandwich, is what you have in mind, Roasberg is so close to the transportation hub of the Finnish capital that it's a sensible stop to make.
