The only downside is that parking can suck depending if there's an event happening at the community center. The staff at Leahi is amazing. Ashley, who works the front desk almost always and helps with registration is amazing. She's so personable and treats everyone like family! She and the pool staff made accommodations to help my daughter feel comfortable during her first lessons without a parent. The staff in the pool has been amazing and accommodating. Kiki - who graduated HS and is no longer working there, really helped my daughter with her confidence and really helped her literally every step of the way. Sage was so fun and very enthusiastic! Ashley (in the pool) also helped my daughter gain confidence when my daughter was really swimming on her own. Koa is awesome and really makes you feel so welcomed too! I also do commend the owners as well. I was at the pool one day when there was a troubled parent/grand parent asking why her student couldn't move up levels. Even though this customer was clearly frustrated and maybe a little angry with the owner, the owner explained why so calmly that the requirements aren't just there just cause - it's for safety too!! Open swim is always nice, usually Saturdays at 4pm. It does get crowded so either come super early or late!

Having enrolled my son here for multiple sessions, this experience fell far below basic expectations. Mismanaged Instruction & Staffing: Although the class was assigned two instructors, a single disruptive student monopolized the lead instructor's attention for the first several weeks. Consequently, the rest of the students were relegated to playing around with an assistant instructor rather than receiving structured instruction. Flawed & Missing Evaluations: The mid-session progress report evaluated students on deep-end skills during their very first couple weeks in deep water, making the assessment premature and inaccurate. Worse, no final progress report was ever provided at the end of the session, leaving us completely blindsided when told our son was recommended to repeat Beginner II. Moving Goalposts & Poor Administrative Support: When I called for clarification, the representative repeatedly backpedaled and changed their explanation. They ultimately claimed that opening eyes underwater without goggles was a mandatory passing requirement--a rule that was never communicated to parents, and one that contradicts what we observe in the next level up, where students routinely wear goggles. If promotion is strictly skill-based, the facility must ensure adequate staffing so high-need students do not drain instructional time from others. Parents deserve clear expectations, continuous updates, and actionable feedback--none of which were provided this session.

The only way for you to stay the whole day was to purchase a day pass for an additional $20+ per person. As if the $500 we paid to have a party there wasnt enough. So ridiculous. Plus the pizza we ordered through them wasnt the greatest too. $32 for 16 slices of pizzas and it tasted salty to me. The amount they charge for food is actually pricey too.

My husband and I signed up for membership with the Kaiser Permanente incentive. He goes to the Mililani location after work. I go to the Leeward location. The Waipahu Y has ample parking. The pool has a couple of lanes open for lap swim most of the day; some days allow for families to swim. There's always a lifeguard. There is a little room with equipment for those of us who are too shy to go to the top floor where all the other machines are. The locker room and shower area are clean. We appreciate the ease of membership giving us access to multiple locations and to classes and equipment and a pool. We didn't need a place to workout at 2am. We didn't need the complicated finance options of some other gyms. The Y is perfect for us.

We really can't say enough nice things about MJ. He demeanor is patient and calm and she kept a consistent pace. She met our son's needs and adjusted course when he was struggling with a skill. She went from being a novice swimmer with no experience to being able to safely swim out of a pool alone within 18 sessions. All of her instructors are kind, patient and skilled. They are very qualified as they are members of the UH swim team and water polo team, which is definitely professional and no joke being in Hawaii. I believe Ecaterina is the captain of the water polo team and Jordan is on their roster. I know that Alexa is on the swim team which is impressive. I trust all of them with the gate code to my home and being alone with my daughter in the pool while I'm inside doing my chores. Every single one of them are strong, muscular, in great shape and are extremely sweet and reliable. They have taught my daughter within a short amount of time to be completely safe in the water. You can dump her in the deep end and she can safely swim out. Every penny is worth it. I did this without any hesitation or regrets as learning to swim saves lives and prevents drowning as an accidental death 100%. I'm sure for others that this may not be your goal. If you want to learn how to swim with more refinement or competitively, you will learn. All of these women are associated with and are on the UH swim team which is very competitive. They are very qualified swim teachers and aren't just high school students trying to make some extra money. I've also Zelle'd Amber going in the thousands of dollars to pay for lessons, and though initially I was very cautious and worried, I've learned that she is trustworthy and ethical. She would never cheat anyone out of money. Her pricing is reasonable during these times and it is worth it because I have seen great results. Only downside is that you need to have access to a private pool. If you don't, please be advised as they will not accommodate using a public setting for lessons. (Understandably it's for liability reasons) Hopefully Amber may take in consideration of using her own or one of her instructors pools to accommodate clients who don't have this access. That's my only recommendation I have for her.

We had been going to Hubbard swim school off and on for over 2 years and my son still didn't really like the water and learned nothing. Being that we recently moved into a house with no gate around the pool, I knew we needed to find another solution for our swimming needs. In just two days of lessons, my son went from not liking the water to absolutely LOVING it and begging to go to lessons everyday. Within a week he was swimming on his own and one week after that was floating on his back with no assistance!! Becky not only teaches swimming skills, but ingrains in each child how to make good LIFE SAVING decisions in the water.... Something that you don't usually see in your traditional swim classes (or at least I didn't). She really has such an incredible way I being firm, yet living in her approach. She is very clear in her expectations in each child, and in turn they trust her and learn to trust and be confident in them self. Typically the program is about 6 weeks, but bc my son is a little older (3.5 yrs old), we finished the program in 4 weeks! I am fully confident that God forbid he were to ever accidentally fall in the pool, he has the complete ability to save his own life. I still can't even believe the transformation that took place in my son.... A month ago he never wanted to swim and would only go in the pool if someone was holding him or if he had floaties on. Now he is a confident, amazing swimmer who we can't keep out of the water!! It is so amazing to see the joy in his eyes that he gets from his newfound swimming ability and we owe it all to Ms. Becky!!! If you are thinking about doing ISR lessons, DO IT!! Its a tad pricey compared to other lessons, but It's the BEST money we've ever spent knowing that we have greatly reduced the risk of any water related tragedy ever happening to our son!!!

When I researched the ISR method, I learned that drowning is the number one cause of accidental death for children under the age of four in Arizona. We joined the YMCA Last month primarily to use the weight room and fitness room. My son is 14 years…read moreold and I was a little worried that he would be lifting on his own, but there is always an attendant in the weight room so that is a great benefit. I use the fitness room and I like the selection of machines and that the machines are consistently being cleaned. The staff has always been very friendly and I have been enjoying my time at the YMCA.
