Went on an "elite" volcano hike bus tour with Scott and Crystal at the Volcano National Park. We had a small group with just the 4 of us and our tour guides so it was very cozy. We actually talked about true crime a lot so the conversation was fun, especially inside the very dark lava tube. They provided store brought wheat sandwiches, chips and water bottles from Costco. We were picked up from our hotel in Waikoloa even though they were in Hilo and dropped us off as well. Honestly, it wasn't very strenuous. About two 1-mile hikes on flat but rocky terrain, 2 lava tubes, and one 3-mile hike that had some uphill and downhill but you didn't need to be a marathon runner here. We stopped at the gift shops and visitor centers as well. Pretty relaxing honestly and we saw 2 rainbows. Overall, very wholesome tour of the Volcano National Park and wasn't time crunched like many other tours. Definitely took all day from 8am to about 7pm.
WE took the evening volcano tour which was an 8 hour tour. Phew! Andre was a great guide. He loves what he does and he loves the island. His knowledge of everything Hawaiian is remarkable. Take Noni fruit for example. He knew that it'stoo bitter to consume but if you get the capsules = great medicinal benefits. Hawaiians love to talk story. That was how he conducted the tour. Many stories.
Night volcano tour was amazing! The volcano is active and it was a beautiful experience. Our experience was made even better by our guides , Rich and Tiffany! They were so sweet, fun, and knowledgeable. Tiffany also had great recommendations about other places to visit. Thank you for showing us a great time!
Signed up for the ZIP and DIP experience. It was my first time here going zip-lining. Let's just say I was super scared at first but staff was super great. Ona, Brandon, and Ashley explained everything and assured us that it was safe and fun. Ten super stars for the staff!!!. Just had to follow the 3 simple rules: 1) refrain from touching gear 2) cannot hang upside down keep ankles safe 3) biggest rule is to have FUN!!! I rented the Go Pro feature $49 and they recorded your zip experience. I missed the white rope at the end of platform and had to be retrieved twice and Brandon was super nice and strong and helped me back on the platform. Super embarrassing but I got gorgeous views of the waterfalls and surrounding sceneries. There were a total of 8 zip lines ranging from baby short ones to the long ones. There was one where we raced each other and there was one where couples can hold hands. Plenty of photo opportunities. Just gotta remember to smile at all times and also be prepared for some booty shots as well. The most prettiest Zipline was # 4 where it overlooks a waterfall. I missed the white rope and slide backwards toward middle of the line and waited until Brandon saves me. But I got to savor the beautiful views of the waterfall. It was so peaceful. Love it!! Marcus our driver and tour guide picked me up from hotel and drove from Kona to Hilo through the middle of the Big Island. It was a nice ride to see the different climate zones on this Big Island. He educated us on the history of Hawaii and it's surrounding active volcanos and foliage. Got to see lots of eucalyptus trees, ferns, etc. st the site, I saw a few pretty peacocks and they were super cute. He's also a very good cook and gave us super tasty BBQ luncheon (chicken, ribs, coleslaw, pasta salad, and corn). There were options of drinks, beer, and champagne after your nice swim at their private waterfall. Overall, It was an AMAZING experience and I will definitely do it again! Hopefully I will get the same crew and this time I will be ready for photos instead of booty shots.
This was such an amazing experience, one thing on my bucket list was zip lining and this was for sure the place to do it at. From the beginning of getting picked up and the ride up to the top the driver was so knowledgeableabout the scenery, we even got to see baby pigs running around. Just know the ride up is a little rough it's through a dirt road so it can get pretty bumpy. The crew was super fun, made the whole experience enjoyable and fun all while keeping us safe. So keep in mind this side of the island gets a lot of rain, I made sure to bring a sweater just in case and sure enough it was dumping rain at certain times during the zip lining. But the perks of this is that you go faster on the lines and the waterfalls are crazy flowing, such a beautiful sight too see. There's a total of 8 zip lines and on the 4th one you get to stop and eat fruit or use the bathroom if needed. Bathrooms are super clean and there's plenty of benches to sit and relax on at the half point. Once done clean towels are given to wipe off and fresh cold water is served. They also have 3 stations your photos are taken when on the zip line that you can pick up at the drop off point. This place is a must try!
What an amazing Zip line adventure! First of all, we came from Kona to Hilo. We were LATE due to the fires even though we left with plenty of time. It still took us 3+ hours to get there. Mary at the check in was so kind as to get everything set up so that our 30 minute late arrival did not stop us from going on our zip line tour. Since we were leaving in a few days and the tours are booked up we would not have been able to go otherwise. Then we had a great driver that gave us fun facts and great spots to eat the entire drive up the mountain. Be prepared for a bumpy ride. Then there was the actual zipping! Wow! Our tour guides Nicole, Ona, and Emily were an awesome bunch. They really made us relax and have fun. They make you feel safe and gave us the best advice to get great views and pictures. I highly recommend taking this adventure tour with them.
Our tour guides name is Krystal and she was great (this review is only about the tour). We booked the star gazing tour with the impression that we'd be up at the top of Mauna Kea where the telescopes are. When I asked the question "how far up the mountain are we going" and Krystal said: "we're not going to the top"; the entire bus let out a sigh of disappointment. I think we were all expecting to go to the top and were collectively pretty bummed for the rest of the trip. We booked this because we were told and read that rental cars with 2 wheel drive aren't allowed beyond a specific point on the mountain and you either needed a rental car with 4 wheel drive or to go with a tour. Instead of going to the top, we pulled onto old saddle road and drive for about a mile or so until there was some room on the side of the road to pull over. Less the telescope and the tour guide Krystal I think we definitely could have done this on our own. Company provided the telescopes, sandwiches and snacks, and also coffee and coco (also provided jackets for those that didn't bring their own. Moral of the story, DO YOUR RESEARCH! We booked through Groupon and paid about $175 a head. Not sure what the price is through the tour company directly but we saw another tour company that takes you all the way to the top for $228 a head. If I had known the difference I would have paid the $228. Also would have appreciated the clarification on the groupon ad specifying that this tour takes place nowhere near the summit of Mauna Kea. Last thing, I know this review isn't the prettiest but have to give one last shout out to Krystal. She was very knowledgeable about Hilo, Hawaiian history, and the stars and definitely made sure to keep us entertained.
Do you like to get down and dirty? Looking for Adventure, with a capital A? Then Kapahokine Adventures is the place to go, located in Hilo Hawaii, they are amazing! We booked a Razor tour, on the fly and they were more than accommodating to get us going! Julie, our driver, talked great story on our trip up and down the mountain to the staging area. She put us in Jae and Va'a's capable hands and they took the best care of us! From getting us set up and ready to hit the trails it was quick and efficient. Once we got into our Razor and hitting the trails the fun was nonstop! Racing up muddy, slick hills and through deceptively deep puddles the mud was flying! We took time for a water and fruit break and then off for more mud! Had a blast in the best field of mud! Then off to the waterfall to clean up and back to home base. This Company Rocks!
Went with my family and my 6 year old. He was super excited to go until he had to go up the first bridge! It was the the worse, he cried bloody murder!!! Ona was so amazing and patient with him. It took nearly 25 minutes to get him to zip line down. She didn't give up on him, she tried everything she could and she went with him in all 8 zip lines. Our group was amazing and understanding and also cheered him on. He enjoyed it after the 3rd one. I appreciate that she didn't give up on him and we all got to enjoy the adventure. Beautiful views, everyone was so nice and it was a great time. Thank you Julie for the ride over and all the wonderful information you shared. And for our guides Jessie and Onah. Special thanks to Ona for allowing Ezra to have a awesome experience.
Kent was our tour guide for the 12-hour Kilauea Hike & Flow Experience. We found the deal on Groupon and decided to book after reading all the good reviews. This is a must-do activity if you're at the Big Island. We stayed on the Kailua-Kona side, but Kent was kinda enough to pick us up at 7am in the morning and drive us to the Hilo side to start our tour. It was so amazing! Kent was so knowledgeable about the history and volcanoes, its was so fun. 12 hours flew by so fast. We went to the Kaumana Caves, Lava Tree State Park, Isaac Hale Park, Black Sands Beach, Launa Mua crater, Sulfur trails, & Volcano Winery. We hiked probably around 4-5 miles at most, and we did alot of driving and sight-seeing. My husband & I absolutely loved this excursion. We would book through this company again! :)
Amazing time!! My crew was Destiny, Jesse, Dishman & Ku'ulei. Great personalities along with some stunning views. The ziplines were smooth and the equipment was new. The tour was called Zipline Through Paradise, the name is accurate . The last 2 lines are long and absolutely beautiful taking you right over waterfalls . You guys all did a great job! Great driving Destiny, backseat is the best !
There are other zip line's out there but this is definitely the best! We did all 8 lines and there were several cool waterfalls and our guides were awesome too! Our driver to and from the area, Destiny, was hilarious and super fun. Also, our three guides in the photo attached were amazing too!! We would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the Big Island.
What a great experience! The guides were so much fun! We had Tiffany, Dillion and Jess who took us through all eight ziplines. The most of the lines were long and had great rides, especially the last two. The last zipline in particular was impressive with views of waterfalls and the river. At our 4th zipline we had a nice break to use the restroom, get water, and get some locally grown fruit. I've ziplined about three times and this was by far the best experience. If you're looking for a great zipline experience, you really should consider this company.

This review is strictly for Cameron, our tour guide. He has set the bar for everyone else. I was amazed by his legitimate Aloha spirit (harder to come by than professed around the islands). He has the type of personality that I could see as a successful tv host on a discovery or nature channel type show. He offered a wealth of knowledge about the land, flora, fauna, history, and beliefs of Hawai'i. At every point he kept us safe, entertained, and informed. He has made Hawai'i my favorite of the islands. My only complaint about the tour has nothing to do with him, but with scheduling. I really didn't want to go to a hotel gift shop and would have preferred more time to swim or snorkel. read more
What an amazing experience. We booked a tour to see the lava fields and enjoy a snorkeling adventure and it was a full day of adventure. Keep in mind there is no snorkeling on this excursion and the area around the Hilton is not safe or appropriate for snorkeling. I am writing the review solely on the lava field excursion part. My wife was very dissapointed that there was no snorkeling as we purchased new snorkeling equipment. Roxy was our tour guide and was probably the most knowledgeable and professional tour guide we have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Roxy was knowledgeable in the history of volcanoes on Hilo and elsewhere, horticulture, bird species, animals, Hawaiian culture, tourist attractions, history of the Hawaiian Islands, tribes and Capt. Cook, beaches, teachings, burial practices and so much more. Roxy told stories of the early days in Hawaii and how it evolved. Also as a noted her driving and safety practices were impeccable. If you are planning to come to Hilo you must make it a point to reach out to Roxy. We spent approximately 8 hours on the tour and it was so enriching although the lack of snorkeling was a dissapointment . Highly recommended Mahalo read more

Zip line through Paradise tour was so fun! Our guides were Leigh, Ethan, Emily & August, I believe. The crew was fun & enthusiastic. You can tell they really enjoy their jobs and make efforts to make sure you enjoy your time. Ethan made it a point to learn our names, always appreciated when you plan to spend a bit of time together. Their office is conveniently located in the lobby of the hotel we're booked at, Grand Naniloa. So if you're not renting a car, no need to worry about transportation. The tour itself is a perfect mix of short and long lines, getting your adrenaline pumping. The best line in my opinion was the line over the waterfalls and the last long line. Views are gorgeous the entire way. Four stars because the last two cameras were down so no photos ops unless you wanted to pull your phone out. Bummer! Would definitely recommend and book again! read more

Found a great deal on Groupon for this company for zip lining. Be sure to check there if you are thinking of going with this company. the norm price is $169, we paid $119 through Groupon. Be aware they are in a new location!! It is located at the Grand Naniloa Hotel on Banyan. Now, from beginning to end, the entire staff was friendly and helpful. I had to reschedule twice and there was only smiles and pleasantness each time (yes, i heard the smile over the phone). The check in process was easy, just a couple forms, a couple signatures and a weigh in. There is an option for the go-pro for only $40, this includes keeping the micro sd card with all the pictures/video you take while using it. You can take your own phone/camera/etc on the zip lines, though it is at your own risk! Don't try to get them to replace your whatever if your death grip is not good enough and you drop it. there is no getting it back. To me this is a big plus!! most other zip lines i have been on, you are forced to by their photos if you want any at all. Yes they do take pictures of you at 4 different spots, and yes you can buy them if you want. there is no pressure for any of this. Now for the zip lines.. there are 8 of them. for the excursion we did, we only did zip lining, and by the end of the trip, 8 was just enough. there are 3 that are super long and a couple that are short. a good mix overall. the staff.. again is great! everyone friendly. they know what they are doing, they even go through 6 months of practice training before being let to help the tourists. equipment seems spot on to me. no signs of damage or questionable wear (as i have seen at other places). the best thing is their automatic braking system!!! that means you don't have to slow yourself down with the one gloved hand. it is all done for you. if i didn't seem excited about this place before, let me just spell it out.. this team excursion is great! a must do on the big island and totally worth the 2 hr drive (use the saddle road) from Kona area to Hilo. read more

BIG MAHALO to KapohoKine for this amazing adventure! We had the best, silly, fun, young crew of Jesse, Makena & Kendall ... also Britney! Loved all their jokes ... "that option only an additional $49.99!" Of course, they would only hire crazy folks who love swinging around on ropes in the jungle all day long! I didn't know what to expect & I was a bit apprehensive at first , ( I didn't know we would be sipping around on 8 lines w a bathroom, water & local fruit break) but now I'm a big fan and will definitely recommend this adventure! Thank you to my kids for this family treat & loved that they saved on Groupon! HANA HOU!! A HUI HOU! read more

What an amazing experience. From the very beginning, parking at the hotel to the end was exceptional customer service. Actually the best we have encountered on the whole island. The women that checked us in was super friendly and eased my fears a bit. Our driver, Maddie, was incredibly informative, answers all of our questions and have us lots of tips on our way back on where to eat and what to do. The guides on all the lines were so calm which really helped. There was 4 of us in our party and the talked us through everything and gave us confidence. Gytis provided history as we waiting on each platform and told us what was coming. Mahwah was so sweet and Greg was a superhero coming get one of us that missed the rope. Plus he has the best hair. The setup is perfect for first timers. The lines start off shorter and slower. So you build your courage. Then the views become spectacular. And of course when you are done you are wanting more. All of us HIGHLY recommend this tour. read more

My wife and I had a blast! The zip line tour guides Destiny, Nicole, and Pauline were awesome, enthusiastic, genuine, sincere, safe, and professional! Our ride escort (Keki) to and from was very upbeat, enthusiastic, and entertaining. Keep in mind two things: #1) If you purchase a Living Social, they will NOT let you book the 9:45am time slot (even though there is no stipulations on the Living Social web site or voucher). I spoke with Laylani and she spoke with her supervisor and they would not allow me to book the 9:45am slot...we booked the 12:45pm time slot! #2) There is no advertisement about tipping your zip line tour guides! Make sure you bring money with you on the course, so you can tip afterwards, otherwise, the van driver gets to consume all of the tips. read more

My girlfriend and I just got back from a 5-day trip to the Big Island and, while there, we went on the zip lining with KapohoKine Adventures. After checking in they loaded our group into two white vans. Don't be fooled by the photos of the red, shiny new vans on the company's website: those aren't used. It was 86*, 1:30pm, and my girlfriend and I were at the back of the van...with no air conditioner. Sure enough, we were informed that the air conditioner didn't work in our van. No big deal, except that the ride to get to the zip lining is roughly 20 minutes. In addition, the ride to get to the zip lining is about 20 minutes driving through the hills. Our driver went pretty fast. Again, no big deal, aside from the fact that she'd told us we could take our seatbelts off...I hit my head on the ceiling twice heading out to the zip lining and twice heading back to the hotel. Also, on the trip back to the hotel, our driver was talking about how much she'd had to drink the night before and how drunk she'd gotten (she was wearing a headset that broadcasts her voice over the speakers, so perhaps she forgot it was on). Not the most professional thing especially given the terrain. The most important thing, though, was the zip lining. It was awesome! I've been once before (also in Hawaii with a different company). The last two lines are where it's at: the second to last is 1/4 mile and the last is 1/2 mile. The views were spectacular, the waterfalls amazing, and the guides were funny and definitely made conversation with us all. We had a kid in our group who was a bit of a "problem child" but the guide was still super patient with him and didn't lose her cool a bit. The only bummer is that you can't go upside down on the line at all with KapohoKine Adventures. The other company that I'd gone through, also in Hilo, had 9 lines...2 miles...and would allow you to zip upside down so you could see the waterfalls and get some cool shots. BUT, I booked this through GroupOn for a fraction of the cost that the other company wanted. When the zip lining was done and we got back to the hotel lobby, they told us there were pictures available that we could purchase. The catch: it was $25 for one photo or $40 for the whole set and they were only emailed to you. Pretty big bummer...I'm on vacation, so I'm willing to spend a bit extra cash, but $25 for one photo to have it emailed to me and not even printed? Ridiculous. So, make sure you bring your own camera or GoPro (you can purchase a knockoff GoPro on Amazon for $50 with a waterproof case, just make sure to purchase a handle for it as well) or get ready to shell out a lot of cash for emailed photos. All-in-all, it was a great time. I took away one star for the van with no air conditioner, the bumpy ride (with a still possibly intoxicated driver?) in a van not meant for off-roading, and the WAAAAY overcharging for emailed photos. Would I go with this company again? In a heartbeat! read more

I did the "Zipline Through Paradise" adventure today and had a great experience. All of the staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. This was my first zip lining experience but hopefully not the last. There are 8 lines in total, with the last 2 being the longest. The photo package is for $45 + tax which I already received via email (I believe one pic is $25 so it makes sense to just pay for the whole package). They also have Go Pro cameras if you want to rent or buy them. All in all: amazing. read more

9 of us went on the Nightmare in Paradise Ziplining adventure. With Zombies and brains to eat. Everything was awesome. Thanks to the crew for keeping us safe and entertained at the same time, it must've been one hell of a task. Mahalo Nui Loa. We will be back next year for more zombies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3hnLsQbMjE Hope you enjoy the link above. Wasn't able to film us zipping because it was scary dark and dumping rain. read more

I am so glad my boyfriend and I booked our zip lining tour with KapohoKine Adventures. We booked the 12:45pm tour and was asked to arrived at 12:15pm to check in. The check-in process was easy (we had a Groupon) and the staff was friendly. After checking in, you can walk around but the group gathers back around 12:35pm and head to the van that takes us up to the zip lines. The 15 minute ride to the zip lines is pretty bumpy but it was a fun ride. Our driver Keki kept us entertained with plenty of stories. I don't know why but he totally reminds me of the Disney movie Johnny Tsunami... Upon arriving at the zip line, we were greeted by Destiny, Nicole and Paulina who were going to our be guides for the adventure. These three are the dynamite trios. I'm a child when it comes to heights but Destiny, Nicole and Paulina are so good at their jobs, that you forget how scared you are. They ease you in with a short line 1 and then it gradually increases to faster and higher lines. My favorite had to be line #7 and #8 --the views are breathtaking. We take a break midway for fruits and macadamia nuts. Destiny, Nicole and Paulina kept a smile on everyone's faces the entire time. It amazes me that they can gather a group of complete strangers and transform us into feeling like we were all friends (maybe it's Destiny's unicorn magic)! Another plus was that we met so many awesome people in our group! I would definitely recommend KapohoKine Adventures if you're looking to book a zip lining tour. Do it! read more

Had a blast on the ATV and zip line! I will say for outfit I would recommend closed toe sandals, swimsuit or swimming shorts and a swimming top. Trust me! You will be covered in mud - trust me! Head to toe but the best part is at the end you go into a waterfall to wash off and it's incredible! Worth every dime and do not forget to tip the staff! They work their butts off! Loved it and recommend doing this tour! Also Tiffany rocked on zip line, Kyle killed it on the grill and Zack pushed it to a whole new level on the ATVs! read more
