I post this review specifically to discuss the company's volcano tour, on the "big" island of Hawaii, and give them a four-star rating rather than a five because of a minor screwup that occurred in the morning. Nevertheless, my experience was phenomenal - when I was given a completely independent tour - with no other passengers - and treated like royalty by a phenomenal tour guide named Rob. I understand that you CAN charter your own tours, and you CAN ask for Rob as your tour guide.
Rob is a native of the big island, and served in the military. He took me to some of the island's beaches initially, then to "Rainbow Falls," one of the most beautiful waterfalls I have ever seen, then into the mountains where the volcanoes are. Along the way, we also stopped for Kau and Kona coffee, the Mauna Loa macadamia nut factory (where the company had a gift waiting for me), and a special stop, because I asked, at a chocolate factory, We then stopped for dinner at a place where the company also had a free dinner waiting for me. This goes to show that this company has fantastic customer service, and if any mistake is made, don't be afraid to ask about rectifying it.
Rob brought me into volcano park, showed me tunnels that go through volcanoes, back out (for dinner), and then back in to watch the glow of the biggest volcano in the world. Watching it glow is one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life. I was allowed to stay as long as I wanted, and frankly, left only when it got to cold (yes, in Hawaii). The other parts of the tour might not all have been as fantastic, but a view of Rainbow Falls actually is. Some of Rob's stories about how he and his pals dived in their when he was a kid were also interesting, but please don't try it.
I highly recommend this tour, and highly recommend Rob as a tour guide. I don't have all positive things to say about Roberts (although I would not say I have anything particularly negative to say either), but I do feel they are a very good company who ultimately will do the right thing for their customers. Lastly, while this particular review is about Roberts and Rob as a tour guide, I want to say that one other thing I got to do with them is get to Pearl Harbor, where I had a pretty good tour guide as well. The experience was phenomenal, and I recommend that too to everyone. read more
