So I decided to start a list of places I recommend or don't recommend when it comes to tutoring or any form of academic prep. I learned the hard way at times, and thought I would give a lending hand with these reviews.
Here are my recommendations with Kaplan:
If you are looking for test prep assistance, do some research about which place offers the best help for that particular test!!! I cannot stress that enough. I took the LSAT prep class here, had a less than mediocre experience, then switched to testmasters after a recommendation from a friend. Kaplan doesn't even hire people with amazing scores to teach their test prep courses. My teacher received a 90% on the exam, which means she literally didn't know how to help me with some of the questions. They also didn't go over any sort of method or strategy to the test, unlike testmasters, who divide each class into a different type of question and introduce strategies to tackle them.
I know that was just my experience with the LSATS, and some people I know had an okay experience with SAT prep here, so I would just highly recommend doing research for whatever test you are planning to study for.
If you are planning to get a private tutor through this company, I would discourage going that route. In my experience, the bigger the company, the less individual focus and talent you'll receive from individual tutors. That definitely was the case with Kaplan - I did not have a good experience with the private tutors here. I would personally recommend going the independent tutor route, so you're not overpaying for a tutor who's not that great in the first place, but that's just my opinion. If you're interested in my experience with private tutors, check out my list or page for other recommendations.
Hope this helps all you students/parents!! read more
