This is a long overdue review of QWERTY and Michael Perez. Our teen son needed additional help in math and he came highly recommended for good reason. Michael is emphatic, patient and great at explaining complicated math concepts. We used him for a few years and he was always easy to work with, communicated well and was readily available during crunch times, like finals, etc. More importantly, he gets kids who learn differently and is exceptional at understanding his students as a whole person. We used QWERTY's services to provide executive functioning sessions for our high school student and have only great things to say about our student's coach, Ed. Ed is a very supportive EF coach and an all-around nice guy who took exemplary care to adapt his sessions to support our son's learning style. Ed truly cared that our son develop tools that worked for him and tried different techniques until our son found the ones he liked best. Our son was also involved in lots of extracurricular activities and Ed incorporated these calendars into the planning tools to provide all around support. If I had 10 stars, QWERTY would get them! We started with QWERTY when my child was in 4th grade after working unsuccessfully with several other Bay Area tutors. My child has a complex learning profile and not only did Betty and then Michael understand how to provide support but showed genuine love and respect for my child. When my daughter enrolled in 3 AP classes for her junior year of high school, we all knew it was going to be a bit of a challenge. When she started hitting some difficulty in the first few weeks of Calculus, I knew we were going to need more help than either my wife or I could provide. We turned to QWERTY Education Services and could not be more pleased with the results! Her once-slipping grade has recovered, she has a lot more confidence in the material, and is now reciting derivatives of all sorts of complex formulas that I've long since forgotten. Best part: stress levels for everyone in the house are way down! We are geographically a bit far away from the QWERTY office, but this is not a problem at all, as Michael is able to conduct sessions via FaceTime, so we're good to go wherever we are with an internet connection. Our 7th-grade daughter had trouble adjusting to the quantity of homework and pace this year after being mostly remote last year. A friend recommended QWERTY to us and we've used them over the past 2-3 months. Our daughter goes every Monday and her coach has helped her develop a system to stay organized and plan her week. The results speak for themselves as our daughter went from missing multiple assignments per week to staying completely on top of her work. They are truly concerned with the learning process and helping our daughter do her best. I am a 25 year old college graduate, but I would not be where I am today without QWERTY education services. During middle school and into high school I came here and am so thankful for the indispensable study techniques I learned, their help preparing me for standardized and school tests, and help with middle school and college applications. We contacted QWERTY when our daughter's school suggested that we have her tested for a learning difference. Their responsiveness, sensitivity, and flexibility helped us to quickly move through the process of scheduling the testing so that we could get answers as quickly as possible. The testing process was actually "fun" for our daughter as both the psychologist and learning specialist were not just professional, but warm and personable, and connected with her to put her mind (and ours) at ease. Once the actual testing was finished, the follow-up report and conference helped us to get a much better understanding of our daughter's learning style. The best part of it all was seeing the "A-ha!" look on our daughter's face as her learning style was explained (and why certain tasks were hard for her and why others were easy). She felt great that someone "got her" and was able to point out not just her challenges, but her strengths as well and how she might adjust her approach to school to take advantage of them. My experience with QWERTY has been phenomenal. I had dropped my statistics class out of frustration last year and when the time came to retake it for the second time I decided to try tutoring as a way to improve my grade. The end result was that I passed the class with a B+, which is a whole letter grade more than what I would have been satisfied with earning. I found Michael Perez to be a wicked smart individual who knew how to explain things in a way that worked for me. For example, I enjoyed my teacher, but her teaching style was not necessarily the best fit for the way I learn. Michael helped me conceptualize the information and break it down piece by piece so that I could understand the sum of the parts and work through problems. When I did not understand something, Michael instructed me to go look it up in the book. This was frustrating at first, but in retrospect I believe he was right to do that as it fostered more of a proactive learning approach on my need. In other words, instead of just giving me the answer he would instead wait until I had gathered some of the pieces and then afterwards help to construct the rest of the puzzle. To me this approach was extremely effective and aided in my overall understanding of the course material, which in turn helped me to score high on several of the exams and quizzes. Overall, I am enormously satisfied with QWERTY's services and I would highly recommend Michael Perez to anyone who needs to pass their Statistics course. My son has been going to Qwerty and seeing Karyn Bosco for the last two years and we could not bee happier. Karyn has been amazing at connecting with my 12 year old son (not a simple task) and he loves to see her. She's high energy and fun to work with. We started using Qwerty tutoring about 18 months ago to help my son with math. We were homeschooling at the time, but now he is in high school. Michael Perez is our tutor and he is an excellent teacher! He is patient, kind, has a great sense of humor, and is kind of a "cool guy", which is great for the kids. Not only has he been able to connect easily with my son, he has helped him progress enormously in math which is a subject that is challenging for him. Michael is able to explain things in a way that my son "gets it". We contacted Qwerty in the Fall of 2015 looking for a tutor to work with our 9 year old daughter. After a consultative intro cal with Michael he matched up our daughter with Karyn Bosco. Our daughter has been meeting with Karyn for the past 8 months and as a result she has achieved her focused learning goals for the 2015-2016 school year. Karyn is very flexible and can customize the curriculum of tutoring sessions to focus on areas that need improvement.
