I attended a mochi making class with Yukiko, we made several types of mochi using different techniques: * Pounded mochi, unsweetened, with various fillings * Rose flavored mochi with technique to make roses * Matcha mochi wrapped ice cream The fillings included strawberry, mango, raspberries, white chocolate, cream cheese, mini oreos, and mini peanut butter cups. They also provided food safe markers to decorate. This was a fun group bonding experience. We were quite full and got to box our leftovers home. read more

Yukiko was a friendly and humorous instructor. She was very well prepared - I was initially worried that we would spend a lot of time making the dough. However, she and her assistant actually prepared most of it for us. So, most of the class is filling and wrapping our mochi. My favorite was eating mochi ice cream. Yukiko pre-scooped balls of ice cream that we put into our mochi. I love that we had plenty of mochi to take back home. read more

I was gifted a Mochi magic class for my 70th birthday.it was terrific! I'm so happy for learning that it's not hard making delicious Mochi. I'm half Japanese and remembered the seasonal festival where a village man would pound the Mochi with a huge wooden mallet as another man turned and moistened the mochi rice being pounded. I remember the charcoal hibachi with the metal grid that the Mochi was roasted on. I've had to rely on my Asian markets for processed Mochi balls. What you make and taste with your teacher, Yukiko-san and her associate Keiko-san in her home are so much more delicious. The table is setup with a wide variety of fillings, all the tools you need and aprons are provided to keep you clean. We learned 4 variations: microwave mochi with matcha & a rose water mochi. A pounded mochi, we used a variety of mallet pounding - very therapeutic. An ice cream mochi, and a fried mochi donut Our group of 7 had a terrific time! We learned how to make Mochi, learned about filling choices, and most importantly got to eat our creations! Itadakimasu! I heartily recommend that you book a lesson. I've since learned about other classes that interested us. Enjoy!!! read more

This was the best cooking class I've ever taken. Kaori is awesome! We took the mochi class, and it was a packed 90 minutes. We made rose mochi, strawberry mochi, matcha mochi, pounded mochi, ice cream mochi and mochi donuts. Everything was delicious and I was super full afterwards. I highly recommend her book. We've made 3 recipes so far and they all come out great. read more

I gave my son a cooking class party for his birthday...he and friends are foodies. They had the MOST AMAZING, MAGICAL time at Mochi Magic and were so happy to have this wonderful opportunity to learn how to make mochi confections. Sometimes I wonder if I'm adopted as I seem not to have inherited the gene for liking bouncy, chewy, rubbery foods....yup, I have a food texture aversion to things like gummy bears/worms, (disdain for) boba and most things made into a ball from rice flour dough (grimmacing)...hey, what can I say I have a refined palate for melt-in-your mouth chocolates! :P Moving onnnnn...sister placed an order online to share with the family as she loves mochi...even the non-asian family members get excited...Why does that need to be mentioned?!! Well most people not familiar with certain ingredients tend to develop a liking over time but they seem to have an innate taste for mochi! Who knew?! Peanut butter mochi with chocolate, red bean with fresh mango, and chocolate truffle with fresh strawberry... "peanut butter cup one was sooo good" "The chocolate truffle was like eating chocolate pudding inside, which was delicious" "wow fresh fruit" And yes I tried the filling of these wonderful treats but saved the rest for those who can appreciate mochi in its chewy, bouncy entirety! *** Support this local small business! *** Kaori's Kitchen offers a 5 star product (family consensus) along with wonderful customer service. Communication was good, delivery happened as promised and FREE! No mochi left behind! :) read more

Kaori's Kitchen is making mochi available for sale. the ones they make aren't the traditional Japanese ones. theirs have fresh fruit, peanut butter, nutella as well as red bean within. the outer texture mochi is the same. the fruits inside takes getting use to. what's the storage time for fresh fruit mochi? no idea. definitely not as long as the traditional ones. these mochi are better than the Taiwanese ones found in grocery stores. less sugar. they can be picked up at Eon with a $10 order or delivered gratis with a $18 order. check out what's available on their website! read more

Mochi in San Leandro??  Kaori and her mom Yukiko use to teach a mochi making class but with Covid, they have changed direction and now Yukiko makes them for pickup at Eon or delivery for a fee. For once I am glad I live in SL as right now it is free delivery with a $18 purchase. With fruit filled ones like strawberry and mango with the traditional red bean or with chocolate truffle and nutella, you are bound to find one or two or five that you will love so $18 really isn't too hard especially when they periodically add a new flavor like the newest matcha mochi with matcha truffle. My favorite so far is the mango and strawberry with red bean as it is reminiscent of Benkyodo's but without having to pay toll for it. read more

Attended a mochi class and it was a lot of fun! Learned a lot and was a great time overall.

My group and I loved making mochi with Yukiko! It was so easy to book the class. I received great communication throughout the whole process. Yukiko was such a great teacher- very patient, thorough, warm, funny and very positive. She taught us how to make traditional mochi and encouraged us to be creative with fillings, shapes and decorations. We learned a lot and had so much fun. We can't wait to try making mochi on our own. We definitely are excited to sign up for another class! read more

I had my daughter's 8th birthday party here, and it was a hit! Yukiko was organized, patient, and engaging--she made the whole experience fun for all 8 kids. It's like a play-dough creation party, but you can eat it! The kids got to wrap lots of mochi with their choice of filling and decorate each one. A to-go box was provided so everyone could bring home their delicious treats. Highly recommend for a unique celebration! read more

Highly recommend! Learn how to make Mochi, bring home about a dozen of your own creations, and enjoy fresh Mochi miso, Mochi ice cream and Mochi donuts during the class. Joined my cousin after she received the AirBnB experience as a bday gift. I believe it was about $60/pp, which is actually quite reasonable considering how much Mochi you take home. Plus I doubted some other Airbnb reviewers when they said they left the class "stuffed" but you really do!! The fresh, warm Mochi is so good it's easy to eat quite a few during the class plus our instructor, Yukiko (Kaori's Mom) and her lovely assistant fed us fresh Mochi miso soup, we made our own ice cream Mochi and, lastly, made fresh Mochi donuts at the end which you should definitely enjoy while hot out of the fryer. Yukiko provides three different recipes to make Mochi at home from the traditional way to a 3 minute microwave version, plus recipes for making a variety of flavors (rose, matcha and ratio guidance for pretty much any flavor you'd imagine). Who knew it could be so easy? There were only 10 people in the class which is held out of her home in San Leandro. It was a very fun and intimate atmosphere with some simple Japanese music in the background, and her granddaughter's toys in the background. It was a truly lovely way to spend a Sunday. Yukiko and her assistant were very kind, fun loving and helpful and our Mochi turned out surprisingly professional looking and tasting. I'll be looking forward to sharing Yukiko's techniques as an activity at a future baby shower or birthday. :) Thank you Yukiko and Kaori for sharing your home and Mochi expertise! Tip: Great gift or date for couples. Massage the warm Mochi dough, get a little messy and share some delicious treats. read more

Came here of my sister's bachelorette party over the weekend and it was super fun. We got to make ramen noodle and gyoza. Omg. Delicious!!! We went to her house and she had prepared everything for us. She had pre cooked the meat, broth, veggies, and eggs for the ramen. She had mixed the ground pork and ingredients for the gyoza. The ramen noodle wasn't as hard as I picture. It was super fun to make. I think the exciting part was watching the dough went to the machine and cutting the noodle. It was super cool. Gyoza can be a little difficult to fold. However since I used to be a waitress at the Chinese restaurant and we had to make pot stickers as one of side jobs, it had became my second nature. I had fun l even offered to help fold the rest of the meat too. Kaori was so happy and said. This gonna be my family's dinner. We got to cook and eat the gyoza and ramen after we finished. They were delicious!!! Kaori is very nice and informative and able to answer all the questions we asked. She's very patient and would show us the right way to do it if she saw us struggling. We found out she teaches mochi classes with her mom too. Definitely planning the next cooking classes soon. read more

Found Kaori's Kitchen when searching for local bakeries since our favorite home baker abruptly closed shop. It's actually kind of rare to have a scratch mochi maker/teacher anywhere, and yet, I found Kaori's Kitchen here in Hayward! This was very lucky for us, a household of mochi lovers. I ordered a plethora of combination of flavors including the matcha red bean, mango red bean, chocolate truffle, and the uber cute collection of bear mochi's. Mochi is the best when fresh and wow were they good! I think it's too bad that pick up is Saturday only, which means if I want fresh mochi mid-week, I will have to eat slightly stale ones. Also, I would love to see them make a sesame filling. In any case, I highly recommend Kaori's Kitchen! read more

My women's group had about 10 people and it was so much fun. Yukiko Sensei's knowledge, useful tips and tools she shared with us to help us make and enjoy so many different kinds of mochi and manju (mochi donut was yummy) and enough to take home and share. The class was available to be in person/hands on or they also offered remote options for those who couldn't be in-person. This was such a bonding and fun time! We have had remote/virtual zoom meetings so seeing each other and sharing this time together was extra special and learning how to make some special desserts that my Mom loved brought back so many fond memories of this special dessert! I just read on their website they have Ramen and Gyoza classes too . . .okay more of my favorites! read more

My team and I absolutely loved the mochi making class!! We attended the mochi class as part of a work team offsite. Everything from start to finish was terrific - the communication was impeccable, and Yukiko and her staff were so warm, welcoming, helpful, kind, and above all, great teachers. Everything was well thought out and streamlined. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. On top of that, my team was a pretty big size (greater than 20 people), but Yukiko and her team were extremely accommodating and they fit us all in a very beautiful location to top it off. Thank you very much!! For sure a 5 star experience (and 5 star mochi :)) read more

Yukiko showed us her magical ways of making mochi and we had a blast! SO. MUCH. FOOD. I enjoyed a wonderful team offsite at Kaori's Kitchen. We learned to make ramen from scratch; from mixing & kneading the dough, to cutting & boiling the noodles. We brought it all together in a rich, bone-broth soup accompanied by vegetables, pork loin, soft boiled eggs, and chili/miso seasoning. Kaori was a welcoming hostess, and patiently walked us through the entire process. We were allowed to bring drinks, and spent 2 hours from start to finish. I highly recommend this class for a fun and unique group event. read more

My work team of 6 people booked a remote mochi-making class and it was a huge success! Rebecca was very responsive over email, which made booking and having materials shipped to each person in a timely manner very painless. Kaori came to my office to help me with a team-building event. Throughout the whole experience, she was super friendly, prompt, and informative with the mochi-making. My husband and I took Kaoris ramen and gyoza class and had a great time! We love eating ramen out but were always curious on how to make our own. Kaoris class helped to walk through the different ingredients and steps to make a nice bowl of ramen. The class was held in a large kitchen at a home and the pace of the class was good, we got to snack on some gyoza mid way and end with a delicious homemade bowl of ramen after we made our own noodles. Kaori was friendly and attentive and kept the class moving. I liked the casual vibe of the class, felt like homecooking but not like some classes where you feel out of place of where the skill set seems too advanced would recommend taking her classes or another! read more

I searched Yelp for our annual staff retreat. Since Kaori's Kitchen received such positive ratings, we decided to book her. She met us at a Berkeley location for an additional fee, but it was most convenient for us, and only an additional $50, so we didn't mind. We had a small group of 7, and we chose the ramen and gyoza class. Since there was a member of our group who is vegetarian, we chose the vegetarian broth option, but Kaori included strips of pork as a topping for the non-vegetarians. Kaori made pork filling for the non-vegetarians gyozas, and she worked with the vegetarian member with creating a vegetarian filling for his dumplings. Not only was Kaori accommodating to the dietary needs of our group, she was also very patient with us. Some of us struggled with making the fresh ramen noodles, but she worked with us, and even helped one of us to salvage her ramen when it seemed like it was beyond saving. Overall it was a fun experience, and the food came out very tasty. We made the mistake of filling up on dumplings while we were waiting for our ramen to be ready. We were all stuffed and in a food coma by the end. We suggest not filling up on the dumplings, and reserving some for later so that you can finish your big bowl of ramen. Finally, we received copies of all the recipes used in the cooking lesson. read more

It was a really fun class with Yukiki and her assistant. We got hands on experience pounding the sweet rice to make mochi the classic way, and get to learn how to make mochi using the microwave too. She also showed us the mochi tradition in Japan when kids sit around the table to make mochi. It was really fun to watch the other people design their own mochi. My friend booked me an Airbnb experience with Kaori making mochi for my birthday, and it was so lovely. The mochi making class was five courses, where we learned to make mochi many different ways by pounding rice and using rice flour and steaming or microwaving it. The class made making mochi seem accessible, and I know I will be making it again soon with the help of the recipes that were provided. I can't wait to have my mochi party!! Also the Totoro song was playing during the class which was a nice touch.
