While in the area, a friend of mine recommended this place. Said it was inside the gas station and that I couldn't miss it. Place is small but has what it needs. I called to see if they take appointments and the person on the phone stated that they were on a first come first serve basis. So, I came around 11:15 am and was lucky enough to beat the crowd. There was one car before me and I waited about 10 mins before I was serviced. Shortly after, there was a line of 4 other patrons. The tech/owner is not personable but it may be because he's a one man show. I totally get it... I waited for about 30 mins and was off on my merry way. However, the best part would be the price point which is better than LA. Also, the report was sent directly to the DMV. It was a fast, easy and convenient! Would I recommend? definitely! read more

I seem to buy a lot of cars out of state and one of the requirements for registering the vehicle in California is a smog check. As I have found with the last couple vehicles I registered the cost for a smog check can range quite a bit. When my last vehicle cost $120 for a smog check (at the mechanic shop who took it to get smog checked without me) I decided I needed to shop around. I literally googled smog check near me and Kang's popped up. I gave them a quick phone call at around 5:00pm asking what the cost was, much to my surprise it was only $40! Once I confirmed the cost I asked how the schedule looked for tomorrow thinking they wouldn't want me in there with less than 30 minutes left in their day and they asked if I could make it down before they closed. I had no problem getting there within a few minutes and the entire process took about 15 minutes to complete. I was extremely pleased with how efficient and friendly they were! One thing, they are in the same parking lot as one of the only decently priced gas stations in town so expect it to be busy and crowded when you try and navigate the parking lot. read more

This place isn't much, but it will put a grin on your face. Located, right on the corner of Orange Ave and Commonwealth Ave, you'll surely miss it if you drive fast enough. My experience at this smog test only center was the easiest process EVER. My last smog check took more than 30 minutes and almost double the price. I left this location in about 15 minutes and it cost me $42. Not the cheapest I've seen, but considering how much time I saved, I was quite satisfied. Time is money, right? My mechanic HIGHLY recommended this place and he's about as honest as they come. I presume that the Super 8 Gas Station used to rent this 2 car garage port to a mechanic, but now the space is owned by a Korean gentleman by the name of Mr. Ann (Ahn). I'm not sure why the place is called Kang's but maybe the previous owner had that surname? Open each day at 8:30am (closed Sunday), they end at 6pm on weekdays and 4pm on Saturday. It's a really simple shop, with one space for your car and the other for customers to wait. It's literally 4 lawn chairs and a desk. LOL. Mr. Ann is really calm and chill, not a stress in the world. He's ask you the usual questions - if your vehicle has been in an accident or if you want your test automatically submitted to the DMV. PS. Excellent customer service. Fast, effective, courteous and pricing ($41.71) is competitive with other smog businesses. I dropped the ball and waited till the last minute to get my vehicle smogged. Smog and registration was due same day. Kang's sent the certificate electronically and upon my arrival at the DMV ( around the corner from Kangs is the Fullerton DMV off of Valencia and Euclid. Kang is off of Commonwealth and Euclid --kinda. It's tucked behind the gas station) if you're a repeat customer he gives you a discount. I struck gold at the DMV. I was in and out in 25 minutes without an appointment on a Wednesday afternoon. I tried my luck on scratchers and won $477. Having to dish out $290 was painful but after winning on the scratchers...it wasn't too bad. Anyhow, go to Kang's. He's a honest man. I've been coming here for the last three years since of friend mine recommended me to him. He's close to the Fullerton DMV so I see it as a one stop shop. The reason I keep coming back is because he's fast and makes it the experience very simple. He's always available and under 30 mins you're out of there. The man who runs the smog check is the owner and is so extremely rude. I wouldn't recommend this shop to anyone. He ask open ended questions only to cut you off in mid sentence and doesn't hear you when you are actually providing him with information. The only reason I came back to this place that is extremely unprofessional is because I would have had to pay again if i had gone to another location to have it retested. About an hour later I went to go somewhere and started my car but it didn't start smoothly. So I turned it off and tried starting it again and it wouldn't start. Opens at 8:30 am M-F. Pulled in at 9 am and greeted with a smile and friendly greeting. I was first and was done in 20 min. This was the second time I've used this facility and it has been quick and easy. It is a small no frills establishment. Saturday hours available.
