I love this place. The best restaurant in crystal river. If you don't try the blue cheese wedge salad you've missed out. It is simply the best homemade blue cheese dressing. I know this is a long review but it's a two in one. Went here for the second time since we moved here. Probably won't be going back. Would like it to be a great place to go have a steak, but it just hasn't lived up to what it should for us. The first time we went was about a year ago. We were seated and our drink order was taken quickly. Waitress was nice and friendly. Our appetizer and salads were brought out a bit slow but still okay and were excellent, then "after" we finished the appetizer and salads, we waited for over 1 hour to get our entree. According to the manager that night, we had the misfortune of a large group coming in and placing their order before our entree order was submitted. To add to the wait we were served their potato of the evening that look as if it was scraped from the dried leftovers from sides of the pan it was cooked in and one of our steaks was over cooked. We talked to the manager and he agreed the potatoes should have never been served and explained what happened with the delay and recooked our steaks to which were done perfectly, great taste, juicy, and tender. The manager also made it right on our bill. After that experience we waited to go back. Fast forward to last night. We were in the mood for a steak and wanted to give Kane's another try because the manager cared enough to sit with us listen and then make it right the first time we were there. This time we called ahead for reservations. Was a quick and easy process. Then we arrived a bit early and still only waited a couple of minutes to be seated. We were served water quickly then we had to wait a bit to place our order. Salads came out timely and were good. But then we were about a quarter of the way through our salads when the entree arrived. Waiter apologized it was early. It was not lost on us it was just the opposite of our first visit. Also unlike the first time, our potatoes were cooked just fine, but then came the steaks. What we went for in the first place. We both ordered ribeyes. Mine was a ribeye but the wife's looked a lot more like a strip steak. It was larger and well, a strip. She did not want to send it back and wait while I ate or my steak sat and got cold waiting so we could eat together so she decided not to complain. However both steaks were about as tough as they could be to which we mentioned to the waiter when asked how our meal was. Shrugged his shoulders as though he didn't know how to respond. (We did not ask for anything, just answered his question) Taste was good, just tough. She only ate about a quarter of the steak she was served and said she was done. I knew then her's was really though. When we finally brought the fact her steak looked different to the attention of our waiter he responded "I thought it (her steak) looked a lot more like our strip steak, but I'm sure it was a ribeye". Then when he brought our bill he dropped off 2 deserts and said "I'm sorry for the steak mix up". Made us believe he knew he served the wrong steak. I know he doesn't have any control over how tender or tough a steak is, but he surely has a responsibly of knowing what he is serving and making it right before it gets to the customers table. To be fair, we did not complain to the manager this time. We just realized 2 trips and 2 issues means no third try for us. read more

Steak is cut paper thin. Tough cut of meat and my guest received the wrong meal. No Manger would come to the table. Poor waiter didnt know the difference in the different steaks you sell. We tried our best to salvage our dinner and ordered desserts and coffee. Not worth the money in my opinion but not much to chose from in Crystal River either. We ate here last year and everything was delicious, we had a variety between all of us....snapper, chicken, pasta. Salad and sides all very good. My husband and I went recently, he had prime rib and really enjoyed it, I had a rib eye and was pretty disappointed, it was not well seasoned and was very chewy, a lot of sinew throughout, I would not recommend it. I've been here many times, but the last few times, and this may seem small, but I always get the tuna poke bowl and the rice hasn't been right. Seems like they are using old rice that is precooked. I really like the poke bowl, but this has happened several times and if you've ever had a pole bowl, that's half the meal. The last time I ate around the rice and they have me 3 dollars off, but I would rather have spent the 3 dollars and gotten fresh cooked rice. I hope they get this straightened out. read more

Jamie is an excellent waitress. She knew right away that the vegetable I ordered had onions when I told I am allergic to them. I got the filet mignon. It came with 2 sides, one of which was Cesar salad. Nice option! Meat was ok. Hubby got the ribeye. It was pretty good. All in all, we are happy we tried this place. Coming from a farm it was neat to see a "farm to fork" restaurant that was reasonably priced and truly a farm to fork. The service was great! After multiple people telling us we need to go to Kane's we decided to give it a try. What a overwhelming disappointing experience. After placing our order and receiving a bottle of wine our server never came back to our table for 45 minutes. The next time we saw her her our main course was being brought out, skipping our salad course. We politely asked for another bottle of wine which we never saw. Two of our steaks were hardly eatable being filled with gristle and fat. Once we asked for our checks and mentioned that we never received our salads, we were told that they were under staffed and given our salads in a to go bag. Quite frankly, at the prices they charge we'd be better off cooking steaks at home on the grill. We'd have a better meal and much better service! We left and got something to eat up the street. Our family tried to walk in and sit with 6, we were told only reservations. Plenty of room in outside seating for our family. Walked back in and asked about said seating and host explain lack of employees being the real reason we could not eat. Understandable in our day and age but disappointing. First time customers late in a Wednesday evening. No worries - welcomed warmly. Turns out it was sushi night - spectacular surprise! Fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. Followed with grilled crab cakes, Ceasar salad, Brussel sprouts, all plentiful and perfectly prepared. Husband had linguini with clam sauce, which was loaded with tiny fresh clams, but lacking a bit on seasoning. Went back the following Wednesday and the host remembered us! Tried some different sushi - just as perfect as the first visit. Followed with crab cakes and salmon. At some point, we'll order meat. This was a wonderful discovery for us. Today was the second time we've been to Kane's Cattle and both times the food could not have been better! Both times we had the Bruschetta, it's to die for!! My husband had a steak the first time. It was cooked to perfection! Today he had the Wedge salad. They give you 2 wedges, half a head of lettuce! We brought home what he couldn't eat. He said it was delicious! I had a chicken sandwich that was absolutely beautiful! I had the Greek flatbread last time and it was fantastic! This place is a hidden gem! We found our new favorite place to Eat! read more

Apparently from the other reviews this place is either terrible or fantastic. Unfortunately, we were there on a terrible night! I'm not sure what the real issue was, but my partner was able to get his first beer fairly quickly, however my cocktail was not so easy, and my friend had all but finished his beer before my drink even arrived. We ordered the spicy tuna roll as a starter, but the "spice" level was off the charts, completely overwhelming the tuna. My friend ordered a steak for the main course, it was thin, tough and overcooked. I had the blackened grouper, it was just ok. The brussell sprout side dish was the best part of the entire meal. I very, very rarely give negative reviews especially during this time of COVID and restaurants hurting so badly. We support small businesses as much as we can. We support local restaurants and we often stay away from big chain restaurants. In saying that, my husband made plans to take me out to a new restaurant. We were excited for date night and sadly this restaurant was a complete disappointment. To be very fair, the onion soup and chocolate cake was okay. I also ordered blackened grouper. Which was horrible. The fish was frozen and served over cooked. It was rubbery and had no flavor. There is no excuse for this being that there is an excellent fish market very close to this establishment that we get fresh grouper all of the time. My husband ordered filet mignon medium but it was raw on the inside, burnt on the outside, and tough. Not to mention our waitress was wearing a political t-shirt that has no place in a "fine" dining restaurant establishment. Price is never an issue for us when the ambience is nice and the food is adequate. This fell far short on both fronts. We looked forward to a quiet, beautiful meal and what we got was nothing short of ridiculous and nasty. We will never be back. read more

This place had carry out. They had a big sign about milkshakes and we ordered one to go with our meal. Staff was amazingly polite and I will never leave this place without a milkshake. I would love to have been able to give the waitress a 5 star rating, but the restaurant definitely not. To start, the water the waitress brought out and poured for us was a very bad tasting, unfiltered tap water...so bad that all 4 of us had a comment after taking a sio. For goodness sakes, with those prices you'd think they could afford a filtration system. Then the appetizer never came out, the cook didn't pay attention to the order, when the 4 entrées made it to the table (3 steaks and crab cakes) all 3 steaks were cooked incorrectly, not just one but ALL 3!! The waitress took them back and had them remake 3 new steaks, 1 came out correctly even the 2nd time. It was just horrible! So the waitress told us that the manager comped our 3 milkshakes for the inconvenience....really? Not even a visit to the table by the manager. It's a steak house, how can you net know how to cook a steak? And the ribeye was more than 50% fat....Such a disappointment in a restaurant, completely unprofessional and uncaring management. Work ethic is just becoming extinct I guess. Will stick with the other good local restaurants from now on. read more

The very beat thing about this place is the beer. The wedge salad was smothered with blue cheese, the baked potatoes was way over cooked and the filet was absolutely flavorless. WE have been here 4 times for lunch with a group of 6-8. They have a huge menu of salads and sandwiches and not just steaks. They even had duck. Everyone loved what they had. It is overpriced for what you get. I got the six ounce filet and the steak was room temperature and the mushrooms were cold. The caesar salad was burnt and had black stuff on it, it seemed old. The brussel sprouts came in clumps. Also got the calamari as an appetizer and it was messy and the breading was falling off and was not staying on. Found this place by accident a few weeks back while in Crystal River. We recently moved to Dunnellon so trying to find a suitable restaurant to our liking has proven challenging. What a surprise! We enjoyed our meal to the extreme. The only disappointment was that we were served no bread with our meals. We will be back. This has become our new "go to" restaurant when we go to Crystal River. Went here on Friday night for dinner and was not as impressed as I was expecting. Dinner was just ok in my opinion. The service was good. They asked everyone to cut into their steaks to make sure they we cooked correctly but I will never send something back because that's not me but steak was quite rare and super fatty. It was a ribeye which I know are that way but this was exceptionally fatty. To me the prices were a bit high for a steak that was no better than other places I have been. And to be honest the inside looks no different than it did when it was the bbq restaurant. We will not return because I was just not wowed like I thought I would be. read more

My wife and I were thoroughly impressed. We headed out for dinner not exactly sure where we were going but we are so glad we found this place. We were quickly greeted with smiles and a hostess, and despite not having a reservation we were soon seated. The water was fresh and clean, and the bread was fantastic. This was my first time eating bone marrow and I was not disappointed. My wife's Ceaser salad was elegant and delicious while the French onion soup was hot and hearty. My ribeye was cooked perfectly to order, great steak fries perfectly cooked and well seasoned, the Brussels sprouts with bacon were outstanding! The steaks have the option of toppings, I chose the garlic butter and I was very pleased. We finished with the "chocolate chip cookie dough cheese cake" that was the perfect ending to our very enjoyable experience at Kane Cattle. Made reservations to celebrate anniversaries with another couple. Service was not good - had to repeatedly ask our server where our drinks were - after 15 minutes we got them. All 4 of us ordered steaks (2 rib eyes, 1 filet, 1 sirloin) - all entrees served cold as were the sides. Told server - he didn't seem to care -- he said "oh.....sorry". Two of the rib eyes looked entirely different - even though ordered the same way. One was paper thin, the other 1/2 thick. Again, both served cold. We decided to not send back but one of our party did. She ordered the sirloin medium - it was served bloody red and cold. After she told server to take it back to kitchen it took him over 5 minutes to come back to table to get it - why he didn't take back initially is unknown. When he brought it back it was luke-warm and still undercooked. Ate the sides and left the steak uneaten. Asked for steak sauce 4 times; never got. Had to ask for bill twice. When we gave him our payments we again told him of our dissatisfaction with all 4 meals and again he responded "oh.....sorry". Never did anyone of authority visit our or any other table. This is our second time there and the the second time we were disappointed. We'll never go back. read more
