Went to Cody's for dinner about 5:00PM, walked in and was greeted by a sweet young woman. We only had to wait 10 min and were seated at a booth. A J our server came to our table and could not have been any nicer to us. Took our dinner order, minutes later those delicious buns with Cinnamon butter came to our table piping hot, followed by that big bowl of salad with delicious dressing. Good start I'd say, and our dinner was delivered in a timely fashion. I ordered Chicken fried Chicken breast with white gravy and mashed potatoes with more gravy, delicious, hot and well seasoned and fork tender, excellent! Okay, the food was fine. I had a delicious steak, with a loaded baked potato and my husband had steak and shrimp fajitas. It looks like the shrimp they were using for the fajitas were popcorn shrimp, And had obviously been frozen before cooked. My issue is the bathroom. Walking into the women's bathroom is like walking into a horror movie dark, dank and you're unsure what's really going on here. On February 23rd, my Bride and I made our first visit to Cody's Roadhouse, to celebrate her 80th Birthday. We ordered their Prime Rib. The service was great and the Prime Rib was fantastic. We said we would return when we were back in Crystal River. Last night, we knew we would enjoy another meal at Cody's Roadhouse. It was interesting that we ended up sitting at the very same booth from our first visit. Prime Rib is our favorite meal, when going out for dinner. We even introduced Prime Rib to our Granddaughter, when she was 5 years old. Last night, Bert was our server and the service was great. When our Prime Rib was served it looked good and I thought there was a little bit more fat than normal. While eating my Prime Rib, I said something to Bert that there was a lot more fat than normal. He came back and told me he did say something to the cook. I ordered a 16 oz. Steak. Looking at all the fat that I cut off my Prime Rib, I would guess it was close to 4 or 5 ozs. I should have taken a photo of it, but I was too disappointed. At this time, I don't believe we will be returning to Cody's Roadhouse. P.S. 16 years of going! Well it use to be great years ago. It seems to go down hill since. It was my go to place every vacation twice to three times a year. I noticed it getting grungy and even grungier every visit. Then food started slipping. After a long day of fishing with local guides it was our go to place. Owners obviously don't seem to care now. Service is 50/50 last year. Came back this year and guides tell me it has went down hill since. I replied still... so before going I decided to check the reviews, and I will have to admit I wasn't happy upon doing so. The entire establishment needs to close a few days and deep clean walls, ceiling etc. That alone would make it more inviting. Servers for the most part have always been great. Now I'm not sure if I want to go back this trip. We normally spend 300.00 to 400.00 dollars here. Me and the guys had a horrible experience last year. And now I hear it's worse. Then on several sites and weed out the B.S. and see it's true! Sorry Cody's We may not make it this year. So I blame the cooks and the cleanliness of this place. And the owners for not giving a damn. When you walk in, you get a redneck vibe the smell coming out of it is fantastic. Was seated, waitress came over took care of us. Husband had 20 oz ribeye you got a smashed potatoes with garlic mashed potatoes, I had the salmon with slaw grilled. We also ordered their tall stack of onion rings. The onion rings are almost too big to eat but they were so tasty. The handcrafted salad was very tasty it has a garlic ranch dressing that is really lovely and not overpowering. The cinnamon butter that comes with their warm yeast rolls is addictive. It's got a very homey laid-back "how's your mama in them" kind of vibe feel. Because this is convenient, and has a promising menu encompassing snack ie to full dinner, we fall into the mistaken belief that it will be better this time! I'm not sure I've been there yet where the food has been anything but mediocre and the service even close to average. Yesterday, 2 of us went for a drink and light meal. Decided to sit at the bar, and order off the bar menu. It wasn't crowded, no one was stalking for seats, so we ordered a drink and got talking. Bartender came over at least 5 times in 5 minutes to see if we were ready. Maybe 15 minutes later we had decided and then didn't see her for at least 15 more! We weren't in a hurry so no big deal! We ordered, bar hotdog, a slider and onion rings. We waited over 1/2 hour for the food, with people sitting around us who ordered big meal, well after us were served. So we figured they either lost the order or bar menu takes a back seat! When we get the food, slider was almost a regular size, hotdog roll almost frozen and rings were cold, overcooked and incredibly greasy! Observed 2 people send steaks back cold. Getting the final bill was another wait, took almost 30 minutes .... Bartender was upbeat with the regulars but evidently didn't care about the one timers! (side eye to the boss - take care of this guy ;) ;) ) So, I've never been to Crystal River, Florida. However, when in Florida... one should visit Crystal River. We had plans to meet friends at a local restaurant that couldn't accommodate our party at the last minute... so we switched to Cody's. What a treat that was! You see, when I ask you to dinner that means I get to pay. Especially for those more ornery dinner guests that try to get one over on ya, one must know, I always win. Always. So, I pulled the classic Brandon (that's me folks - I'm Brandon). I show up early, go in, make the promise of an inflated tip (which I always deliver on!) and guarantee the bill makes it into no one else's hands, except mine. Daniel and I make our pact before our friends arrive and the evening is on track. I'm going to skip all the other blah blah blah... menu selection was great. Price was on point. Service was EXCELLENT (thanks to Daniel!). Food was delivered as ordered. Salad was nice. Our company enjoyed the rolls. Other staff was polite. Ambiance was exactly what one would expect from a restaurant named Cody's in north Florida with a deck... it checked all the boxes. A credit card is placed between two fingers and placed just in view for a member of the wait staff to swipe it from me and make the bill go away... Well, well, well... as my wallet very quietly started to slip off the table I was ABRUPTLY interrupted by our dinner guests to be advised the bill had been taken care of for the evening! ::CLUTCHES PEARLS:: I HAD BEEN BETRAYED! B-E-T-R-A-Y-E-D! DANIEL! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME, SIR!?!?!? Between the look on my face and the terror on Daniel's face as his life flashed before him, he knew the reconciliation had to be made... ...now, to be fair, Daniel is a man of his word. I would not be completely surprised if she twirled a steak knife between her fingers while she forced him to run her card... he likely was in self-preservation mode for his life! A great laugh was had by all... someone finally, after all these years, got one up on me... or DID they? The guilt moved in, slowly and surely. Many visits to our table were made by Daniel... all the refills and plate clearing... when magically, a note is dropped very indiscreetly in my lap. It reads "BTW, if you really want me to, I can un-charge her card and charge yours to be sneakier". Boy if I didn't need the little boy's room suddenly, as a slide of the hand transferred my card to his hands. A quick trip into the restroom and magically, I had a receipt in my hands... VICTORY HAS BEEN HAD! Daniel - you're the bomb. You've given us a story but even more importantly, a memory. The night someone ALMOST got one up on me... You've kept my perfect record in-tact and preserved my pride of being the guy that shows his love by buying the people he loves, dinner. And for the backstory that you didn't even know... that (likely steak-knife yielding) lady who cornered you to pay... she is one of my dearest friends in this lifetime and probably the only other human on this planet that is as competitive as me. We've been friends for almost a decade, we met when she became my boss almost 10 years ago. Instant besties. She took a risk on me when I opened a business in 2019 and has been faithfully by my side professionally since February 2020. I first have to say how incredibly disappointed I am in Cody's. For a few years, this was a great place to go for consistently serving good food - not always the best service, but worth going to. Not any longer. Let's get the easy part out of the way - the parking lot is enough for the patrons. Sometimes it would be difficult to turn around in, but plenty of spots. Now...I'm not sure if there is a new Manager - or maybe the reason it's gone downhill so quickly is that there is NO Manager. That would account for: Dirty, dirty restaurant and bar. Young servers sitting in empty tables and chatting. Cleaning up with a dirty mop all around the diners while they wait for food and it's an hour before closing. Food orders that come to the table at different times, that take forever and the order is wrong. My plate of fried chicken and fries looked like it had already been tested in the kitchen. There were about 10 fries scattered all over the plate. Or maybe the plate was dropped and that's what it looked like when everything was thrown back on? We sat at the bar on this particular night and we had to ask for our drinks both times. The bar had 6 people at it - not a hard gig to watch for low fri is and ask. Overall, this Cody's needs to close down for a deep, deep. DEEP cleaning and take that time to properly train the staff. Unless there truly isn't a Manager. We visited this location for lunch today and had a very negative experience. Although the food we ordered was good and the service was adequate the ambiance atmosphere were far from acceptable. There were several families present and there was also a very loud, obnoxious drunk present who was using vulgar and offensive language. Management not only did nothing to correct this behavior but also interacted with him as if it didn't matter. When we left we told the hostess that our experience was very unpleasant because of this behavior and the lack of action by management. I would also add that three of the families around us said they would never visit Cody's again. I can only hope that management takes action in the future to eliminate this offensive behavior. read more

Visiting the area and stopped in for some dinner on a Sunday evening. There was no wait and we sat down right away and our server was Amanda. Luckily for me it was before 7pm and scored the 2 for 1 happy hour special with my goose island IPA. I ordered the Slow Roasted Prime Rib of Beef (Slow roasted whole prime rib, seasoned with their own blend of herbs, spices, and garlic. Served with au jus or horseradish sauce) Had the choice between a 12 or 16 so for a few dollars more the 16oz was a no brainer. Had a baked potato as a side along with the salad with garlic rqnch dressing. Meal also came with Fresh Baked Yeast Rolls with Cinnamon Butter which is a treat in itself. Food came out fresh and was tasty. My son had a burger and fries which he enjoyed as well. All in all, it was a great meal with good service. There was also a hair in my son's burger and the bun was as hard as a rock. Not sure how a steak joint screws up a baked potato but they managed to do that as well. Looked like a good place to have a drink, eat and go. And so it was. Sadly, it was a great menu, but our hunger level prevented us from going wild. Too mad as they have great steak, lots of interesting and unusual appetizers like buffalo chicken, a very TALL stack of onion rings and a chip and dip trio. We moved on to margaritas, splitting a great salad and taking on a very nice 12 ounce chopped steak smothered with onions and mushrooms. And...loaded baked potatoes.
