Very fresh sushi and delicious ramen. The tonkatsu ramen had an authentic slightly milky colored pork broth with pieces of perfectly cooked pork belly on top. The Godzilla roll is too large (wide) to eat one piece in a single bite. We prefer the Turtle Roll and the Green Dragon - both are very similar with spicy wasabi sauce and unagi. The Hijiki salad is great in small bites - the portion they serve as a salad is way too much for even two people but a great value at $4 for a bow. It is dark, sweet and salty with pieces of compressed chicken. Best to sit at a glass topped table as the side wooden tables seem to have very sticky tops - they might need to be refinished as even wiping them down does not seem to help. read more

The lunch specials are great at Kamehachi of Tokyo! They have two Bento Box options both of which are super delicious and lots of food. They are also reasonable priced for the amount of food. I personally had the Bento A which included miso soup to start then salad, edamame, 1/2 California Roll, Vegetable Tempura and a choice protein (Ton Katsu or Chicken Katsu). I had the chicken which was crusted with tempura or something and it came with Japanese BBQ dipping sauce. This was my first time trying the Japanese BBQ sauce and it a little bitter/salty for my taste buds. I posted a picture of the lunch menu. From the outside Kamehachi of Tokyo looks like a small restaurant but once you walk in it a BIG! I love the ambiance and décor of the entire place! I have always loved kamehachi! The restaurant is large and has a full sized bar. There are many rooms for private parties and right on the Main Street with parking in the back. The restaurant is dark but very pretty. The staff are friendly and tend to remember regulars which is nice. I used to come here all the time for dinner but recently discovered the lunch special and have been hooked ever since. They also have tamari sauce for all gluten free diners and the staff is very knowledgeable on what is gluten free. The food: Kamehachi Salad: we get it with sashimi, brown rice, and ginger dressing. The salad is huge and is more than enough for two people. The fish is always fresh and great with a bit of warm rice. It also is a great value. I believe it's only around $12 which is so cheap for two people to share! Kamehachi roll: very classic but fresh tasting roll. We went for lunch today and had the pictured salad. I can't remember what it's called but you can have it either with crab or with three kinds of sashimi and tobiko. The raw veggies were incredibly fresh and crunchy. The petite bits of raw fish were slightly overpowered by their exuberant texture, but that was okay. There is just the right amount of brown rice on the bottom. The house dressing comes separately in a bowl. I mixed everything up like I would a bibimbap and poured the dressing over it. I felt so virtuous and healthy to be having this - low glycemic for sure. I recommend this dish highly. read more

It is truly middle of the road sushi place, part of a small chain and closest, walking distance sushi to our house. Ambience: mediocre, service:ok, sushi is neither very good nor pathetic, as it happens in several other suburban outfits. Sunomono is actually decent, rainbow roll is so so. And there is somewhat unpleasant smell every time we come in. Now I remember why I prefer other sushi places, within 10-15 mins drive. Prices are a little above average. Not sure what the deal is during lunch but... Greeted with rude attitude. This isn't the first time we we're treated like this by not one but 2, of the lunch time servers. It's as if we we're bothering them. Noticed they treated another table the same way as well... But as the "regulars" came in, all smiles... Makes no sense... The most unsettling thing was told on previous visits that one of the soups was indeed, Vegetarian and then told it wasn't. My wife and I decided to stay in for New Years eve after a long day traveling. We called in our order to Kamehachi and we were told it would be an hour and a half for delivery which we were content with. 90 minutes later we inquired about our order status assuming that things would be slower on NYE. We were told that our order had not even been started at which point we decided to cancel and make other dinner plans. We figured that would be the end of it. Suddenly out of nowhere somebody starts persistently knocking on our front door at 10:30, a full 2.5 hours after we had cancelled our order. The knocking which woke our young children up continued for at least 10 minutes. At this point I wasn't sure who could be there at our front door, but I contemplated answering the door armed or calling the police considering the persistence of the knocking. Finally I screamed out the window to find out who it was and was told it was our sushi order. We called the restaurant back which is where it got more interesting. The boy who answered the phone "Alex" informed my wife that I had called to reinstate our order and was extremely rude to her. Then I grabbed the phone where he proceeded to insinuate that I was lying and going on and on about how I had called him and spoken to him. When I inquired as to what my name and phone number were, he gave me a wrong name, and wrong phone number. Even at this Alex refused to apologize, refused to let me talk to a manager, and then told me a manager would call me the next morning. Thankfully I didn't hold my breath. I began coming here with my grandparents when I was in high school. It's very good quality sushi and a nice selection of Japanese menu items. Their Nabayeka Udon is out of this world. To be fair to Kamehachi I haven't tried any of their nontraditional sushi items. Next time I go I will be sure to get something off the beaten path. Our service has always been good, but one time we were stuck at a table that had water dripping over us. They were very apologetic and I believe they took a few items off the bill. I have been coming to Kamehachi for years and have definitely felt that it is overrated, however, my experience tonight sealed the deal. I went, alone, and was sat (per request) at the sushi bar, which was empty. I waited 12 minutes, no greet, nobody came by except for someone to drop a water in front of me and run away. I must have sat in front of the head Sushi chef because servers continuously leaned over me to tell the chef that he needed to hurry with their orders. One server even bumped into me and did not apologize. At the 13 minute mark I approached the host stand and let a manager know that I would be leaving after all of this. I was very polite and just wanted them to be aware. They said, "Sorry about that" and walked away as they were busy. Boo. read more

Someone recommended the tuna Poke Bowl from here and I've had a very bad taste for one. I called to order for carry out and the person who answered was super friendly. She gave me a choice of three different kind. Aloha, fire and I don't remember the third and I can't find the info on their site. Anyway. I chose fire and I'm so happy with it. It had marinated tuna, spicy wasabi mayo, some kind of fruit that was sort of like a pineapple. I chose black rice and it was sweet and delicious. I asked for the Large and it was huge. It was only $14 and I got a TON of food. I've been here before and loved the tuna Poke tacos and now this one makes them two for two. The smaller bowls are only $10. I came here for a dinner meet with a couple of friends and we were craving sushi that wasn't too far. We chose Kamehachi because it was about 5 minutes away from the glen. Just walking through the door I already had a bad feeling that this restaurant was going to be bad. The decor is gaudy, stereotypical, and the lights are nonexistent. It just screams RUN AWAY and that is what I wanted to do but I always give a restaurant one shot before I judge. Management is not one of the highest priorities for this place. The waiters / waitresses just carry conversation with one another rather than serving their customers. Trying to get their attention for about 40 seconds, we got someone to come over and take our order. The waitress took our order and left. So we waited... and waited... and waited some more and our food finally came out. We started out with asparagus beef rolls and vegetable tempura. The asparagus beef tasted plain and had no flavor. I would have preferred just asparagus by itself than have it ruined with their cooking process. The vegetable tempura was nothing to get excited about. It was decent and would have been surprised if they messed it up. Many of my friends ordered the soba and udon. None of them finished their dish because of how it tasted. I personally did not taste it so I could not tell you why they did not. I got the spicy salmon deluxe and green turtle roll. The spicy salmon was half salmon and half sauce. I want the star of my sushi roll to be sushi not some sauce you mixed in with salmon. That is just my opinion though. The green turtle roll was decent but I could have done without the avocado. It seemed like it was prepared in the morning and served at night... it was dry... To sum it up.. it is another Japanese restaurant owned / run by Koreans. that says enough about the place... it is not authentic and the way they prepare food is not even good enough to call sub-par. Yet, this restaurant is utterly lacking when it comes to basic customer service and kindness. I'm pregnant and the sushi we received was placed all in one container. The raw fish & cooked fish/veggie rolls were not only placed together but the fish eggs (masago) got all over everything. Pregnant women cannot eat raw fish so this made the order unsafe for me. All I asked was to please remake my 2 rolls. The answer was NO and then we were blamed. Really?! We were previously ordering about 1x a week and now we will not be. She remembers all of the things we like and always brings us something new to try. She is funny, sweet and efficient. The only place I have had better sushi was in Hawaii which was ruined by a Pauly Shore sighting (and YES...he did say "You DO know who I am don't you?" Dear God, we haven't heard from the Weee-----sel since like '91 right?) Anyhoo...do not miss the unagi and the dragon roll...the bar is quite an experience too. My grandfather fought in World War II, and I think secretly harbors resentment towards Japanese food as a result. I'll never be able to prove this, but it's my theory. Anyway, I somehow was able to convince him to get sushi with my and my father one night when I was in town. He was skeptical, but I think just wanted to make me happy, as grandfathers tend to do. While the rolls aren't much more expensive than anywhere else, I did see some items that were a bit pricey considering what you get. The server and busboy were both pleasant and quick about their job. My soup and tea came out immediately and the roll followed shortly after. Tea was the best of the experience. The miso is alright, but a bit too watery for my taste. My roll was fresh, but simply lacked the amount of flavor I am used to from other sushi bars. I liked the decor; it was probably the most true to what I imagine when I think of a Japanese restaurant. It was delightfully traditional and tastefully modern.
