Although my teeth came out looking nice, Dr…read more Robertson seemed distracted and disinterested at every check in, like she had somewhere better to be, which was frustrating for a $4,000 treatment. She ended up unnecessarily shaving some of my teeth and I now have a gap in the side of my mouth, not visible but large enough for food to constantly get stuck. Every dentist I've been to says the shaving was not necessary to get the final result, and Dr. Robertson criticized me for waiting to come in to get it fixed (and the extra trays did not end up doing enough to close the gap.) I had a tooth whitening session with Dr. Blau as well which didnt yield good results. He told me the stripes on my front teeth (fluorosis) were a lifelong condition that could not be fixed. I had another cosmetic dentist fix them no problem a few weeks later. Overall for the amount of money cosmetic dentistry costs I would go elsewhere.

I have an upper denture that had begun to show some raised metal underneath my upper left side which was mildly annoying. My periodontist recommended I see Bruce B Blau who happened to be conveniently located down the hall from my periodontist. After a short break from his lunch Dr. Blau took my denture and covered the area (which was about 1/2") with some kind of plastic(I think), dried it for about 1 1/2 hours and it fit just fine......for 4 days... and then the denture returned to its previous state. After about two weeks I began to notice that I could not chew anything close to hard in that area and as of today it remains the same. Perhaps you have heard the old saying: If it aint broke don't fix it. When I went to his office I assumed something so simple would reflect in the bill. Not so! I was presented a bill of $175.00. I hit the ceiling and manage to bargain down to $100.00. Still too much for his time involved. Now I am left worse off than when I went in. There ought to be a law. Buyer beware.

I repeatedly told him my insurance covers the exam and all he kept saying is "what I'm charging you really isn't much" and "I'm just trying to help you out". No. You are trying to help yourself out by illegally taking money from someone when you are under contract with the insurance company and MUST adhere to the schedule fee. You don't get to choose the amount you charge a patient! Then he went on to tell me how much he charges for a procedure he does. I called my insurance and explained everything and they called him to let him know he cannot charge me for services covered under my insurance. Sounds like he was trying to commit insurance fraud! Needless to say once he was confronted by my my insurance rep he decided not to take me on as a patient. What a fraud he is! Please do your research prior to going to any dentist or doctor. I went to the IAOMT site and also called Dams to get a list of recommended dentists. I did a lot of research over a month-long period, even going to one dentist in Manhattan and calling several others to get a sense of how seriously they treat amalgam replacement. I unfortunately had to eliminate most of the Manhattan dentists (one sounded great but was super expensive and doesn't allow cancellations; the others, frankly, didn't sound too good). I finally decided it was worth the trip to NJ to see Dr. Steinberg. So far that's turned out to be one of my better decisions. He takes *every* precaution in the book when replacing your amalgam fillings--he covers your clothing and face; gives you oxygen; uses a vacuum under your chin to suck away the mercury vapor; exposes only the tooth he is working on; uses suction on the tooth (to further pull away the mercury vapor); uses a rubber dam, etc. He also talks to you about supplements you should take (lots of vitamin C for instance) before and after--he understands that mercury is serious business and he doesn't screw around with it by taking chances with your health or his! I've had only one filling (of six) replaced so far (he works on one quadrant at a time), but so far so good! I go back in a couple of weeks for tooth number two. I'm looking forward to getting this crap out of my mouth, finally! (I asked my conventional dentist about it a couple of years ago and let her talk me out of it, since she said it's more dangerous to remove than just leave in.) Oh, and it turns out the trip to Dr. Steinberg's office in NJ is really short (from Port Authority). Easy breezy--I'm so glad I found and chose him!

I recently had a real dental emergency, but Dr. Ghiz's office refused to schedule me because of my outstanding bill. I called dozens of times, but could not get an appointment. Dr. Ghiz didn't even have the courtesy of coming to the phone and speaking to me, although I had been a patient of his for 33 years! Over one lousy bill for a cleaning! This shows the level of respect that Dr. Ghiz has for his patients. There is no loyalty, only loyalty to money. Dr. Ghiz has been coldhearted and his lack of empathy is absolutely despicable. I hope he himself falls on hard times and that people he has trusted for years also shun him and turn their backs when he is hurting. He deserves nothing less.
