Getting worse and worse. This shop keeps on messing up my order. Last time they switched the number or turon and empanadas I ordered. Just went there today. And today's no exception. Somehow some empanadas r missing. I asked for 4 chicken empanadas and 6 pork empanadas. Got 4 chk and 4 pork, but paid for all 10. Thanks a lot for nothing. The price is not cheap either. This place has really good turon, for sure. So is the egg pie. The empanadas have gotten smaller in size and is 70% crust and 30% filling but gotten more expensive. What REALLY SUCKS US HOW THEY TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS. Simply put, their CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS BIG TIME. The reason you call ahead and place your order at a particular time is because you have other things to do than wait for 20 minutes for them to make your order. After you call, you come in to pick up your order, only to be told that (i heard all these excuses in the last month - I ordered 25 turon over the phone 2 days before the pick up day): 1. Someone else came in ahead of me and bought their last batch 2. They neglected to check the next page of their "order book", only to find out there were other people who called in their orders. This is after you show yourself at their counter on the designated time you said you would pick up 3. (My favorite excuse) We ran out of BANANAS! This bakery is in the same strip mall as my cleaners. I noticed a lot of activity so I decided to venture in and try some of their wares. The turon, sugared doughnuts, and chicken empanadas are my choices. With my wife being from El Salvador the turon is close in taste to their version of plantinos. I love the sticky coating and the taste of the banana. My kids fight over the sugar doughnuts, I think they are called Bisets, every time I bring them home. And the empanadas are sweet to the taste. Chicken empanadas *drool* I've been here a couple times picking up chicken empanadas for potluck, and man, those little golden nuggets disappear in minutes! They are packed with chicken mixed with carrots, which make them sweeter, and the crust is flakey and crispy! They are $1.25 each for the large ones and $1 for the slightly smaller ones, but I have to say, the large ones have better meat/crust ratio. i've also had the turons but they were a little too sweet and sticky for me. oh, BRING CASH! read more

I am so glad my parents live pretty close to Kalahi... my usual consists of turon,empanadas & hopia baboy. Their prices are comparable but the quality of yummy goodness is freakin' awesome! Many non-filipinos come here for the what you may ask...for the TURON! Yes, that tasty banana with jackfruit wrapped in eggroll wrapper then deep fried. Often times we come here is to place an order for turon when there's a party and we need dessert. But also on other occasions we come here just to buy treats that taste like made at home desserts like sapin sapin, hopia (taro, pandan, pork, chicken), chicharron and so on. They are definitely updating their line of desserts that they offer. Last time I heard, they even sell dinuguan and other types of dishes. No matter what time I pass by Kalahi, its always busy. In the morning, in the afternoon or even at 9pm at night the OPEN sign is still on. For a small hole in the wall place, it sure offers a great variety of delicacies that will surely satisfy your taste buds. I'm sure they have a lot of followers and loyal customers. I'm just waiting for the day that they will finally move to a bigger location with more space and a nicer looking front. As one of the reviewers below has said, this places make some really good treats, but what's the point in calling ahead and placing an order when you have to wait 45 mins? This hasn't happened just once but multiple times. I've also gone in a week ahead and paid in advance and still had a crazy wait time. Tasty and Yummy turon !!! Basically, it's a banana wrapped with egg roll skin, deep fried, and covered with sugar! and not forget to mention the jackfruit inside! It was goood...I think it's $0.80 each. and I also love their empanadas. They have pork and chicken. It taste kinda similar in my opinion. Both of them are good. Last New Year's Day, I did not cook much but I had different kinds of Kakanin (Filipino Delicacies such as rice cake, bibingka, ube) We expect long lines but there were a few more staff for the season to accommodate all the customers. We ordered cassava cake, buko pie and maja blanca. I cannot tell the banana que but the lady next to me said that it is filled with awesome goodness and jackfruit. I like the buko pie a lot, like you're in Laguna tasting authentic originals and the cassava cake. Go and find more of Filipino delicacies and food that will bring you back home to the Philippines. Parking is right in front. The price is not bad for a single dollar sign you can have kakanin to get you satisfied. read more

Stopped by this place yesterday since my dentist is across the street...I know dentist then bakery???...i picked up some freshly made baked siopaos filled with chicken adobo and some banana turones. The siopas were okay, I prefer the steamed versions better. But the turone was great. It was just like my mom , with a little bit of langka(jackfruit) in it. And they were warm too, so it was a great snack. Would probably be perfect with some vanilla or ube ice cream. This place lacks organization and basic customer service mannerism. When someone calls to place an order for pick at a certain time, they expect to drop by and simply pick up their order. If you cannot fulfill that order, then do not promise pick up at that time at all. Here we are trying to get into the store with no apparent line or signage for either pick up or placing order. When we're told that our order is not ready, we were shooed to get out of the way and make room for others who are paying. Earlier a fight broke out that warranted authorities to come out as a result of their disorganized business. This should be reported to the Better Business Bureau. read more

I LOVE Kalahi Bakery. One word EMPANADAS! Oh my gosh, I love their empanadas. These things are like mini pockets of heaven. They have regular and mini size, the mini ones are a perfect size for snacking. I also like the TURON which are are dessert eggrolls haha, it has a slice of banana and jackfruit wrapped in eggroll wrapper (lumpia wrapper) and then sprinkled with brown sugar and fried. Empanaditas - yes this is why i come here. I love the emapanaditas being small for it's great for a quick snack. I try to get the half or a dozen of it and it'll last for like 3 days. Yummy especially when I preheat it. Best with coffee or tea. I tried the chicharon and once you start eating...you can't stop. Watch out for your cholesterol level. Oh, I tried the turon and it's OK. Will probably try some of the Filipino snacks they offer. Parking is fine. read more

I really love coming here for the empanadas, pancit, and turon! I grew up in Walnut and most of my friends were Filipino so I developed a liking for the pastries and snacks. I have since moved and often crave the empanadas here! I come whenever I can and always buy a big order of empanadas to enjoy :) My very favorite is the pancit malabon they used to make, however I don't think they make it anymore :( Definitely try the chicken empanadas and turon ! read more

The 2 stars is for their Turon and Empanada. I purchased a relyenong Bangus and embotido last weekend and it was the worst! Both have mashed potato (a lot of it) and onion and the taste was bad that for the first time, we won't able to finished it and won't even dare to eat the leftovers. read more

I'm addicted to this place, those damn fried pig skins. I can't stop thinking about them (and eating them ) all day long.I love chicharrons made fresh from this bakery. When you enter they have so many things lined up on the counter, cakes, tamales, dumplings, its amazing. I don't know what half the offering are, they have crazy bright colored foods, but they all look really good.Theres a steady flow of peeps coming in and picking up all sorts of treats. They have one of the best TURONs I've ever had. Every time I eat one, I end up eating 2-4 more. It's crazy good ! They're always fresh and crunchy.
