I started going to Kaizen over a month ago a few times per week. I came across the studio when I was researching local fitness classes in Monrovia. I was happy to see that Kaizen offers a really great deal for a two-week trial package that includes unlimited cardio kickboxing and TRX! This was perfect for me to try out classes to get a feel of things before making a longer commitment. The regular monthly fee is very reasonable too! The fact that the monthly fee covers unlimited kickboxing and TRX motivates me to make the most of it and go routinely. I'm a 30 something year old, and it's nice to see that both kickboxing and TRX at Kaizen suit people of all ages and backgrounds. Signing up for classes that fit my work schedule is easy and flexible through the app. Kickboxing is an excellent workout. It really gets the heart rate up and the sweat going. What pleasantly surprised me was trying TRX for the first time because I had zero familiarity with it. TRX is easy for me to follow because of the pacing. It really is a full body workout. I find TRX more doable than pilates, which I personally find too difficult. TRX is fun using straps as a workout tool, also making it pretty unique. Both kickboxing and TRX are 45-minute classes, and it feels like the perfect amount of time. Classes aren't long, and that allows me to have the energy to go multiple times per week. The location is very convenient for me and there's plenty of parking. Jody, the instructor for both kickboxing and TRX, is an inspiration because she teaches so many classes and is a great instructor/model! She's friendly, patient, personable, and approachable. She helps you get the techniques and correct postures for moves, so she'll also keep you accountable! Also, I've found that the people who attend classes are very friendly and cool. There's zero judgement nor egos from what I observe! In summary, Kaizen is great! You get to enjoy classes and enjoy seeing/feeling yourself get more fit and healthy! Give it a try if you're curious. My kids absolutely loves kaizen karate class! My son has ASD and has always struggled with confidence and self-esteem, but since starting here, I've seen such an amazing transformation. The instructors are patient, encouraging, and truly care about each student's progress. Karate has helped him build not only strength and coordination, but also resilience, focus, and confidence. I am so happy that I found Kaizen Martial Arts and Fitness for cardio kickboxing. As a recent retiree and fitness enthusiast, I wanted to learn about kickboxing and am fortunate to have found the right gym. The gym is impressive in size and cleanliness. I've been attending TRX & kickboxing classes at Kaizen for 30 days now and I have lost 7 lbs! Before this it was a real challenge to get any weight off. Especially being that I'm in my 40's and premenopausal. I've never done any form of kickboxing & I felt nervous & intimidated, but Jody explains everything very well and makes you feel comfortable. She makes sure your form is correct so that you avoid injuries and get the most out of the workout. TRX classes are tough and something I've never done before either. They give you a full body and that is something that I look forward to in a workout. Every time I attend a class, I learn something new & I really like Jody's teaching style! Try something different Jody, instead of each combo being 30 seconds long, try doing each combo for 3 minutes long like a boxing match. Change the boxing combos every day to make it more interesting. read more

Started here about a month ago.. originally tried the 2 week trail and absolutely loved it so I decided to commit to coming. 30 plus days in and I have to say l've found something besides hiking that I absolutely really love. The atmosphere is great, it's a family run business which I think makes a big difference. The facility is clean and easy to access. Jody is absolutely great and patient! Which I'm very appreciative of. The pricing is great and affordable. The scheduling is flexible and surprisingly there is definitely enough classes to to be able to make even with a full time job.. This is a great family friendly Martial arts and fitness studio. My kids come here during the week for martial arts. They gain knowledge and discipline from their instructors. My wife participates in the kickboxing classes while the kids are in martial arts. Every couple months they also have a kids dinner and movie night. As a single mother raising a young 4 year old boy, I was aware of the need my son has for discipline and respect for others. I knew I wanted Martial Arts to be part of our weekly routine and Kaizen delivered more than that. Ms Jody set up a free trial for my son and was very flexible with the schedule. Tom has a great sense of humor, silly grandfather-like approach to the kids. Sensei Zack, Brad, Michelle, and Anthony have tons of experience dealing with little ones and it shows. I knew this was the place for us after my son's first trial class. Watching the children line up, together reciting the student creed which begins with the following : "I will develop myself in a positive manner and avoid anything that could reduce my mental growth or physical health..." EVERYONE here is great. So attentive and very friendly. I first signed up my son for the two week trial and not once did I feel pressured into signing up. The sensei's there are so great with the kids, very patient with them and I absolutely love that they sit down with the kids and discuss healthy eating habits as well as other healthy habits that kids should develop. I also really love that the kids can go EVERYDAY and more than once a day. They don't limit you to once a week or once a day. You really get your money worth and your kids really learn to develop focus and concentration skills. So much better then the kids staying home on their devices. All of the staff at Kaizen, from Tom and Jody to Sensei Brian and Sensei Zac down to every black belt that has helped with the younger classes...all of them have been spectacular. Kaizen may be a Marital Arts & Fitness studio, but once you start going there or in my case, send your daughter there, you are just family. I've been going to Monrovia's Rock Steady for about 6 months, and I'm very happy that I joined. The exercises, which are tailored to people with Parkinson's are, of course, the most important part of the program. But I was pleasantly surprised about the other qualities that make it so worthwhile. Like becoming part of a friendly community of people who share the same challenges. The workout is serious and targets the physical problems specific to Parkinson's. The atmosphere of the setting is upbeat, fun, with lots of smiles and laughter. Jody is a pro who is serious about what we are doing, and Ellen adds a lot of personality and keeps the atmosphere upbeat. There are several volunteers who help to keep all of us moving. The class is typically around 25-30 participants. I invariably leave there feeling more positive and energized and capable. And thankful. read more

My son Jadon has been going to Kaizen for a little over 7 years now. He started as a Little Ninja at 5 years old and earned his black belt at 12 (almost a year ago). Jadon has never complained about going to karate class--for him it has always been a fun and positive experience and something he is proud of. I have been amazed to watch his growth from a Little Ninja who could never remember any of the moves to a confident black belt who does these incredibly complex katas and bunkais, and leads as an example to the other kids. All of his senseis as well as Shihan Tom Hould have been very encouraging toward him every step of the way. And one of my favorite things about karate: When Jadon comes home from karate class he is always more calm and in a better mood than before he went. Highly recommend. read more

I visited the Kaizen Rock Steady Boxing Studio as a medical student working on a research project centered around early detection of speech/swallow difficulty in patients with Parkinson's Disease. After making sure the boxers were comfortable with my presence, Jody, the main instructor and owner of the gym, showed me around and had me meet some of the boxers. I have nothing short of the highest praise for Jody and her team over at Kaizen Rock Steady Boxing. Not only is their facility modern and outfitted with the latest fitness equipment, but the instruction is seriously superb. Boxers are always pushed to their limit and the family-feel instilled at the studio always makes sure that every participant is supported constantly. I was not only impressed with Jody and her team, but also by the progress and resilience of the boxers in her classes - it was truly inspiring. My son has been enrolled in karate lessons at Kaizen for just over a month now, and our experience has been positive from the start. Coming in as first-timers to martial arts, the Kaizen family has been nothing short of kind, helpful, patient, and reassuring. My little one looks forward to coming to class and is already showing growth in self-confidence. Sensei Zach, Sensei Anthony, and Sensei Michelle have a good rapport with the students and their parents. They really pay attention to the kids during class and take the time to provide individual support, as needed. And it's not just support with martial arts, but also with emotions when kids come in from having a rough day. I also appreciate the relaxed (not pushy) atmosphere, as Tom runs his studio with a very welcoming and flexible perspective. I'm the laziest person you will ever meet, and I really dislike the gym because it's boring and filled with sweaty grunting dudes. So I was searching for a class that would be a good workout, but not a repetitive snooze like Jane Fonda aerobics videos. Luckily, I found Kaizen. The cardio kickboxing class is my jam, and Jody changes the routine every week so it never gets boring and you find yourself developing new skills and discovering new muscles all the time. Jody and the other instructors always keep it upbeat, pushing us hard but in a fun way. It's also really really reasonably priced, I go so often that it works out at about $5-$7 a class! And they offer lots of different classes (TRX, resistance, little ninjas, etc) so it's great for every age and type of person. The whole atmosphere is very family oriented, and there's a lot of focus on respect and discipline. I'm so happy I found it, and I would recommend Kaizen to anyone. I've now been attending Jody's and Ellen's classes for almost four months. What a Godsend they are! My balance and flexibility are markedly improved. I have never exercised in groups before, but these classes are the highlight of my week. Jody and Ellen push us hard but not unreasonably. There is a camaraderie among all of the boxers as we all support each other and deal with our specific challenges. Anyone dealing with PD needs to check this out. In my opinion, it's the best thing you can do to slow down the disease. Further update: I just completed my first of many anniversaries with this program. The program re-assessed me at one year and my results show I've actually improved over the last year! This program is much more than an "exercise program". We have two instructors who do this as a labor of love. Every week I feel like I cannot express my gratitude to them about how much the program and their dedication mean to me 2019 update. This program has changed my life. Although I lead a busy schedule (among other things allegedly working full-time), this is a major component of my week. A posi I wanted to update my review of Rock Steady Boxing Kaizen Monrovia to include the current COVID pandemic. Classes have been available remotely through Zoom, and after three months the studio reopened today for live classes for those feeling comfortable enough to come in, with Zoom classes continuing for boxers not yet ready to come back. While I have some trepidation going to the grocery store, I don't have any coming here. I was asked a series of health questions before I could enter. Following that, I was given hand sanitizer. Then, I was directed to a dedicated personal work out area with my own chair and boxing bag. All surfaces were sprayed down before and after class. All instructors and boxers wore masks. I feel like every reasonable precaution that could be taken was taken, and I am very comfortable coming in to the studio. read more

I cannot say enough positive things about Rock, Steady, Boxing by Kaizen Martial Arts located in Monrovia, California! Jody Hould, and her husband Tom and son Zac have created a very unique and effective program that is 1 1/2 hours in length, offered at different times Monday through Saturday. Classes are divided into two separate training groups based on the boxers Parkinson's stage, PK 1 & 2, PK 3 &4 which allow the Coaches to tailor classes to the severity and progression of each participant. Usually divided into 3 sections of 30 minutes, each class starts with 30 minutes of vigorous physical warmup exercises, followed by 30 minutes of training helping develop/improve physical and cognitive skills, and lastly 30 minutes of boxing. Jody and Zac attend RSB events to stay abreast of new techniques and are certified Rock, Steady Boxing Coaches. They offer a welcoming and fun environment, differing routines and a personalized focus for each boxer. I personally have had very good results with improvements in sleep, physical stamina and able to not increase my current prescription. I get positive feedback from my Neurologist who encourages my participation. Jody and Zac provide an environment that is very welcoming, personalized and effective. Jody emails weekly updates on Parkinson's news/events and even sponsors some at the gym itself. Kaizen through Jody, Zac and Tom are awesome! My husband was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2008 and started the Rock Steady Boxing program after participating in a demonstration class at the World Parkinson's Congress in Portland in 2016. As a person with fairly early stage Parkinson's, I am so glad to have found this program! The caring, supportive encouragement provided by Jody and Ellen motivates me beyond what I ever thought possible. The workouts are both fun and challenging. They do a great job of varying our routines and activities so that I am never bored. This isn't just about boxing. There are a variety of exercises that focus on strength, mobility, flexibility and balance. The program stimulates both my mind and my body. We need to listen to instructions and follow along, which sounds straightforward, but I realize that I'm enjoying the mental aspect of the program as well. I find that on days when I'm not able to attend, I really miss it. Since I've started the program, my posture is better, along with significantly improved strength and fitness. With the advice from my Neurologist who happens to be a "Movement Disorder Specialist ", l found Rock Steady Boxing. I was a little apprehensive to join @ first, because I didn't have the typical symptoms of Parkinson's disease which was tremors of the extremities. After several sessions, l noticed an increase in my energy level, l'm moving much better that I motivated myself to look for a job ( which I did ) than settle on applying for medical disability.
